Nox Zero was one of the most sought-after Jaegers in the fleet right now. Grandiose, sleek black metal with kaiju-blood-blue accents and some of the more advanced weaponry in existence.
And Choi Junhong had been chosen to pilot it.
He'd been chosen a month ago, really, but the excitement was still palpable. He wanted to get into the Conn-Pod and just go kick kaiju ass, defend his homeland, and be a hero. He could see it now - hailed as a great figure and praised like he'd just saved the entire world.
But he had barely stepped foot inside so far. His superiors wouldn't let him in because he didn't have a copilot. Nobody to do the neural handshake with, to take half the burden of control.
Nobody on the base was compatible with him.
So they'd flown in some potentials from other regions, other bases. A majority were from China, but there were a couple from America or Europe. He wasn't sure how well that'd go over, since he didn't know how to speak English.
Today was the day that those potentials were going to be tested. There weren't many, to be honest, maybe ten in total, but still, that was a lot for him to take on.
Even so, he was willing and ready to go. He wanted inside Nox Zero as quickly as possible.
So he now stood next to the Marshall, in front of his potential partners. As he looked them over, he felt his excitement growing. They were all older than he was, and it was obvious. That meant he'd been skilled enough to get ahead.
Hopefully they were skilled enough to keep up.
"Nice to meet all of you!" he grinned, unable to keep the "cool" image he'd initially planned on," I hope you're ready to get your asses kicked."
The Marshall rolled his eyes and gestured for the first candidate to step forward.
"State your name and begin."
