All moved in!
Built my front yard fence, brought in my bed and Olaf's stuff... I'd post pictures, but Tumblr is glitching out each time I try, so use your imaginations? 16x20 single room cabin, I have kiddy-gates blocking Olaf from the 'kitchen', a book nook with a folding table for schoolwork and bookshelves, the broom closet perfectly fits my 'there's a bear by the outhouse' emergency camp potty as a mini bathroom (I just need to put some linoleum down on the floor there), my bed nook is diagonally opposite the book nook, and Olaf's food/kennel area is right between my bed and the kitchen. Cabin still smells a little smokey, so tomorrow I'll try and bake some bread or cookies to bury/chase out the smell.
$145,000/studio cabin

FAIRBANKS — The Fairbanks housing market is one of the more unique in the country — including a much higher than average number of residents who live without basic amenities such as indoor plumbing or a full kitchen.
Despite being a life-long Alaskan, it wasn’t until I moved farther North did I realize the how many people live without running water. In Fairbanks alone (the biggest community in the Interior), over 6% live without indoor plumbing. And cabins come with a high cost, too. Electricity costs 7% more than the national average, and heating fuel contributes another significant financial burden.
“When it comes to heating oil, though, the cost per gallon is not necessarily the defining factor in the high cost to consumers but the amount of fuel that must be consumed to heat a home, Wiebold said. The cost of heating oil in the Interior is two cents higher per gallon than the national average, but the extreme cold and length of winters in Fairbanks force many residents to pay a high cost for heat. Homes in Fairbanks that utilize central oil furnaces burn 1,135 gallons of heating oil each year.” I have to get fuel this week and I admit, I’m dreading the bill.
