So, my hand slipped....
@thatsoneginger gave me a copy of Dragon Age: Inquisition for Christmas and I made an elf boi named Drynne
I finally named my Solesta baby, so here’s more sketches of Drynne
Birds of a Feather | Pt.2
Oh look, this thing has a part 2 now! Part 1, Part 3 (coming soon).
My OCs Erami/Drynne/Yara, they’re losers and so are their birds. (I’m also really liking the little quirks and patterns that are happening with these goobers/their birds. ♥)
E & D (Yara’s birds, about two weeks before they ask him to join their relationship)-
They thankfully aren’t as startled the second time they get birds, it’s made doubly easy seeing as they’re both at home together, spread out on the couch. Drynne’s legs draped over Erami’s hip, while she rests with her head on Drynne’s shoulder.
Her first clue is when her bird, Para (which Erami informed her was entirely too unoriginal), perks up from his perch across the room and starts cooing slightly. The second clue is when Era’s monstrosity of a bird starts screeching happily, effectively startling Era out of her doze to look around in confusion.
“Victor?” Era asks the creature, sitting up on the couch. It flies over to her and perches on Drynne’s legs where they’re now settled over Era’s lap, and shuffles around fluffing it’s wings, making that weird screechy noice Era keeps insisting is supposed to be cute.
The last clue is when they hear tapping coming from the window behind the couch, followed by little chirping noises. The two share a look before Erami scoots out from under Drynne’s legs, patting Victor once before standing up and moving over to open the window.
“Aww,” Drynne hears her coo. “Look at you, aren’t you two just adorable!”
Drynne shoos the vulture off her legs so that she can sit up properly, and turns just in time to see Era make her way back around the couch with two brightly colored little birds perched on her arm, chirping cheerily at her.
“Well, what do we have here?” She asks when Era sits back down.
Victor wings up to perch on the back of the couch, still fluttering his wings excitedly, and Para flies over to land beside Drynne on the couch’s arm, eyeing the newcomers speculatively. The little blue budgie hops around on Era’s arm so that it’s facing Drynne, and begins chirping excitedly at her, she raises an amused eyebrow and holds out her own arm for it, which it immediately flits onto and prmptly starts singing at her.
Her and Erami share a look as their new little friends start up a duet.
Yara (6 months after meeting/dating, literally like 20 minutes before they call and ask him to come over and then ask him join their relationship)-
He’d just gotten out of his surprise double-shift at work and was dead tired, barely making it out of his clothes and into his bed before he passed out.
Only to be woken an indeterminate amount of time later by persistent taps at his bedroom window and demanding chirps.
He blinked dazedly, trying to wake him mind up enough to process whatever the hell was happening.
He pushed himself on to his knees so that he could see out the window and was met with the sight of an impressively disgruntled looking blue jay sitting on the sill next too a plump, round little cardinal staring up at him beseechingly.
“What.” He stared at them in confusion.
The blue jay started chirping at him, apparently irritated judging by the sound, and resumed tapping it’s beak angrily against his window.
“Alright, alright!” He hurriedly unlocked and opened the window, letting the birds in.
The cardinal almost immediately flew up to his shoulder, burrowing itself as close to his neck as possible. Leaving him staring at the blue jay in confusion as it glared up at him with a tilted head.
“Um, hi?” He mumbled uncertainly.
If birds were capable of rolling their eyes he had the distinct impression this one would have done just that.
It shook itself out a little and hopped closer to him. He carefully extended his right hand towards it and he jumped a little when the bird started pecking at his fingers and chirping up at him.
He frowned dow at it, trying to understand what the fuck was going on, but otherwise let it do as it liked. After a few moments more it stopped pecking and looked up at him expectantly.
“Uhh,” the bird chirped at him again, nudging his fingers, and he tentatively raised his hand to pet at the bird.
Once it had apparently had enough of that it flew up to his other shoulder, situating itself until it had apparently made itself comfortable, and started chirping at him contentedly.
He jumped a little again when it started pecking at his ear efvery now and then.
He slowly sat back, turning around on the bed so that he was more comfortable again, and then carefully turned his head to try and peak at the cardinal. While also trying not to dislodge either of them.
He thought the cardinal might actually be asleep on his shoulder. Testing that theory he gently scooped the bird off his shoulder and held it cupped in his hands as it remained dozing.
He carefully laid back down, giving the blue jay enough time to fly off his shoulder and perch on his raised knee instead.
The cardinal stirred a little so he gently placed it in the center of his chest, where it lulled with the rise and fall of his breathing.
“Huh,” he mumbled, watching the now content birds as the reality of the situation finally sank in.
A tickled smile slowly grew on his face, and he felt his chest warm as he thought of the women the birds had to of come from.
The blue jay flew off his knee and settled next to the cardinal, nestling up against it as it’s own eyes closed.
He wasn’t sure he’d ever stop smiling after this.
Birds of a Feather | Pt.1
I blame this entirely on @feynites and This AU. Part 2, Part 3 (coming soon).
My OCs Erami and Drynne, and their new little feathered love-symbols.
Drynne (2-3 months after they started dating):
"What the fuck."
She stares off with the bird perched on the back of her kitchen chair.
"What the fuck." She says again, and the birds fluffs up a little, offended almost.
She chuckles a little uneasily, watching as it starts preening.
What the hell even is it? She wonders, and then also wonders how the hell it got in.
Eventually she snaps out of her confusion with a relenting sigh, and moves to put her groceries away. Once that's done she takes her phone from her jacket and snaps a picture of her oddly colored bird, hopping up onto her counter afterwards.
The bird looks at her, fluffing itself out again and making annoyed bird noises.
She laughs when it seems to pose for her, and takes a few more pictures of it before it flies over to sit on the counter next to her, seeming irritated with the slippery counter surface, and hopping into her lap instead.
It made noises at her until she started petting it, and then it started to almost coo at her when she gently scratched under it's chin... neck?
Do birds have chins?
Either way, it seemed satisfied after that and allowed her to look up what kind of bird it was. Some kind of bird of paradise according to the pictures she'd found.
Yellow head, green neck, grey-ish blue beak, brown body and wings, and the most ridiculous looking tail feathers she'd ever seen. Bright yellow with wispy, fluffy white ends.
The thing looked like a trainwreck.
She supposed it could be weirder though, at least it meant her affections were returned. That pulled a genuine smile from of her.
The bird made more noises at her and she laughed before scratching at it's "chin" again.
Erami (4-5 months after they started dating):
She's humming under her breath as she unlocks her apartment door, dropping her keys back into her purse and dropping that on the kitchen table while she grabs a drink, on her way out of the kitchen towards her bedroom she catches a flash of white out of the corner of her eye and turns towards the living room.
She shrieks and drops her glass in surprise, scrambling into the bathroom and slamming the door behind her.
What the fuck? What the fuck? What the FUCK?!
There was a muffled thump from somewhere in the apartment, followed by a dragging sound and a dull tapping. As it got closer to the bathroom her pulse got louder and faster, until it stopped in front of the door, going quiet.
She jumps when something taps on the door, but frowns when a little cry follows it. She slowly attempts to calm herself down, taking a deep breath and bracing herself as she opens the door a crack.
Her eyes are drawn down by bright orange and she blinks in surprise.
She sighs shakily and opens the door more fully, slowly crouching down in front of her "intruder".
Her "intruder" being a large white and black bird with a bright orange neck and matching... fleshy beak tassel thing. It's hunched over in a way that makes her think of a vulture, and it certainly has the uh.. Well, aesthetic?
It's not the... prettiest bird she's ever seen, but she has to admit it looks fairly adorable at this moment. Considering it's holding the strap of her purse between it's beak, after having presumably dragged it down the hall from where she'd left it.
It cautiously shuffles towards her (and now she knows what the tapping was as it's talons click against her wooden floors), making this hopeful sounding muffled little squeak-screech as it extends her purse strap to her. She carefully takes the bag from it with a thank you, and it makes another little squeak-screech, if louder and more excited this time.
It hops closer to her again, watching her anxiously, and she watches it for a moment before sitting fully on the floor and crossing her legs. She sets her bag aside again and holds a tentative hand out to it, which it seems to take as invitation enough and flaps over her hand to land in her lap, shuffling around a bit as if exploring the little nest her legs have made before extending it's neck out to her arm and biting her sleeve.
It pulls on the fabric and she moves her arm as it directs until it's resting on her folded leg and the bird makes a happy little screech, settling more comfortably into her lap and setting it's head on her arm, staring up at her contently.
She smiles a little and makes a few cooing sounds at it, which seems to please it enough to draw some more noises out of it.
"I should apologize for freaking out like that," she says after a moment, slowly rubbing the top of it's head with a finger from her free hand. Smiling again when it's eyes drift close and it's wings fan out a little. "I was very startled when I saw you, but that really isn't any excuse for that kind of overreaction."
It nips at her sleeve a little, in reassurance she thinks.
It's head abruptly pops up from it's rest, and then it's winging up and out of her lap (and smacking her in the face with said wings in the process) to fly down the hall. It snatches up the glass she had dropped before, which is remarkably still intact, by the handle and then flies back to her to drop the item into her lap.
It drops itself there as well and stretches it's neck out so that it can affectionately nip at her chin.
She sets the glass beside her purse and lets the bird settle back into it's previous place, cooing at it some more as it happily cries back at her and clacks it's beak now and then.
Once it seems to have finally dropped off she carefully pulls her phone out of her bag and does a quick search for her bird, which according to google is a king vulture apparently.
Fancy, she thinks fondly.
She pulls up her messages and shoots some off to Drynne.
-Holy shit Drynne -Ur bird almost gave me a heart attack!!! -Its pretty cute though so thx~ ♥ -Luv u too btw xxx ;)
Than she carefully scoops up her new bird...
(Her bird.)
(Her bird... wow.)
And carries it into her bedroom, settling it amongst her mess of pillows and blankets with only minimal grumbling as she leaves it there to continue with her evening wind-down.
