what are your thoughts on the RISD and Brown dual study program?
It's full of awesome.
So basically, you get the opportunity to be earn a degree at both Brown and RISD. By the time you graduate, you'll have an A.B. degree from Brown and a B.F.A. from RISD. Compared to other college kids (with the exception of PLME students), you will graduate in five years rather than four. When you first get in, you get to choose where you want to live for your first year. I believe the year after that, you switch to the other school, but I could be wrong. I know for sure that you must spend a minimum of two years residence at both schools.
The following is taken directly from the information section: "Students may combine, for example, disciplines such as philosophy with sculpture, or art and design with math or anthropology. Brown offers comprehensive concentrations in the physical and biological sciences, social sciences, mathematics, and the humanities. RISD offers intensive, specialized education in all categories of visual media, architecture, and design."
To be eligible, you must apply to both Brown and RISD and be accepted at both. After that, you have to complete the degree requirements. About fifteen students matriculate into the program every year. The saddest part is that you can only apply once, and that's your freshman year. Of course, if you end up missing out on this, you can still take classes at RISD while being a Brown student. But to be a dual-student, you must apply freshman year.
Josiah only knows of two students who are in this program, but they both love it. It's definitely an awesome opportunity to take advantage of if you can.
