i. in utero
Obviously, Salinger and Marlowe have always been close. However, sometimes things can be a little... too close. The boys’ mother will tell of how being pregnant with them was absolute hell, because they wouldn’t stop punching and kicking each other.
ii. i would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids.
Salinger has never been much of a daredevil, that has always been Marlowe’s territory. However, Salinger could always be counted on to keep his brother’s secrets, even under the careful scrutiny of their mother, the lawyer. No amount of interrogating would get him to open up about anything...
except that one time Marlowe dove off the top of their bunk bed in an attempt to fly and subsequently broke Salinger’s chemistry set to pieces, mid experiment.
iii. speaking of flying
Once, both of the boys thought it was a good idea to attempt to jump out of their second story bedroom using giant trashbags as parachutes. In their defense, they thought their next door neighbor and childhood friend had been taken to the hospital (even though the ambulance was two doors down from the other kid’s house.)
iv. vidja games.
Marlowe learned at an early age not to get between Salinger and his video games. Once, after beating an incredibly difficult boss in a video game, Marlowe convinced Salinger to hit a button to skip the cutscene and the end of the battle. Instead of taking Salinger to the end of the game where it would save and let him play in sandbox mode, it reloaded back at the last safe. Before the boss was defeated.
Salinger answered by chasing Marlowe around their estate while brandishing a knife.
