Storyteller Saturday; which of your stories is Dr DuMaurier from?
None of the officially listed projects atm, since the plot of it is still a loose outline of brainstorming, but I can link to the tag for a basic idea of the ramblings.
Pinfeathers is a steampunk heist with airships and magic and explodey things and mostly just self indulgent fun. Dr. Francine DuMaurier was a royal scientist who was sentenced to death for trying to blow up the queen, and fled to the countryside where she basically stole a castle and now does experiments in the dungeons ranging from chemistry to potential necromancy.
There are frequent explosions, which are great for her PR, and keep everyone but the delivery boy away. Unfortunately, most of them are due to her excitable, friendly assistant Plumeria, who used to be an air elemental and is now undead. The crux of the story is that magic and electricity CAN be combined MAYBE but we dont know how to do that without exploding everyone.
The world's fair is coming up, where the remaining royal scientist is debuting a magitech machine DuMaurier invented. She was happy to brood and leave things alone and do her experiments in peace, but Plum realizes this isn't your usual explosive failure but something big that might kill the tens of thousands of people at the fair.
With the help of the reluctant delivery boy, a rich boy with questionable connections, and an accidental trip to the circus, they have no choice but to do a a heist, steal the thing, and get some revenge, if all goes well.
(all does not go well.)

Born this day 1907, Daphne Du Maurier (d. 1989) is considered both a romantic novelist (much to her chagrin) and a sensationalist. She was right to be displeased; her stories unravel with dark and haunting mystery, and are a far cry from tedious, linear romance. In it's original form, Du Maurier's 1951 novel, 'My Cousin Rachel', is an intriguing and thought-provoking thriller. First adapted for the screen only a year after the novel was released, director Henry Koster stripped the narrative of substance and atmosphere in 1952. The film's trailer questions, with classic cinematic extravagance: "Was she a woman or witch, Madonna or a muderess?" The eponymous protagonist, most recently portrayed by the captivating Rachel Weisz (dir. Roger Michell, 2017), is the subject of this enquiry. As she stands accused by the very man drinking her dubious teas, Du Maurier, of course, does not clarify which Rachel is. Whether witch or not, she certainly is a strong, independent, and beguiling woman... which as we by now know, was enough to attract accusations of witchcraft. 📸: 'My Cousin Rachel' film still, dir. My back is sore these days due to the cold and the rain, I have a condition and I don’t cope well with wet weather. When I am finally home and in bed I am usually exhausted so all I want to do is read in bed with a warming blanket and many cushions. Tomorrow will be a better day. . . . . . #decemberemberreads #DaphneDuMaurier #DuMaurier #currentlyreading #JamaicaInn #OutOfPrint #Secondhandbooks #oldbooks #hardbacks #books #bookstagram #literatura #libros #yoleoycomparto #yoleoyocomparto #bookworm #booklove #bookstagram #booklover #bibliophile #bookaholic #addictedtobooks #bookaddict #booknerd #IGreads #webtrovertsunite #webtroverts (en Santander, Cantabria)
Plutarch's Moralia V “The Oracles at Delphi No Longer Given in Verse” & a vaguely cosmic latte. Left du Maurier in car but don't wanna give up this nice outside seat.
