Response to My British Cousins
Instead of clogging everyone’s dashes with individual responses, I am going to cover everyone in one post, especially because individual posts would involve a lot of repetition.
@duquesnes (wont link for some reason): From what I can see the Tories aren’t making any major push to privatize healthcare overall in the UK, it looks to me like that the most they are outsourcing some aspects of it to aid in overcrowding and backlogs. This is a far cry from the leftist reaction that they are going to privatize the whole thing. As for Nuclear weapons the UK has to have them if they want to stay militarily relevant and not rely solely on the United States (or God forbid the French) for Nuclear Deterrent.
As for Attlees’ new Jerusalem its a very nice dream, but unfortunately someone has to pay for this dream, and by all accounts your government could not pay for them. It had to reel in its spending and increase its revenue to stay financially stable. Believe it or not going into endless debt really isn’t an option. This is an issue all western nations are going to figure out sooner or later. Does it suck? Yeah, but its better to cut now then to find that you can’t help anyone down the road.
lvcyvi: Never
@seneddism (same as above): I understand the ideology is different, that however doesn’t stop Brits from informing me that I should get rid of my guns and of how evil the Republicans are.
inevery-crowd: First off thank you for being civil.
Secondly, I understand your point, but I do feel like I at least have a small understanding in the British attitudes towards the role of the state and how important things like the NHS are to y’all. However, as I said before I feel like the UK, much like the US is going to have to take a long hard look at entitlement programs if they are going to stay financially solvent.
In regards to the protests, the progressive movements in the UK were alive and well in 2005 (how else would Labour get there) it may have been different issues, but populist movements very similar to this one have been important all over the West for quite some time. What I am saying in regards to these protesters is that all chanting in regards to this not being “true democracy” is based in hypocrisy as they are simply angry that the party they didn’t like won the election. Though I definitely respect their grievances regarding austerity, even if I do not agree with them wholeheartedly.
Again thanks for being polite on that matter.
sherloosier: I think you may enjoy looking into CPG Grey in regards to some o his videos regarding elections. Not saying you’re wrong, but they are interesting perspectives.
@hheavymetalbrokemyheart (nothing wants to work): The UK is more in debt now that is true, but the deficit is down, which is the start to recovery.
scramdleb: Because you’re too daft to do it yourself, yeah?
