Lippincott Road between Saline Valley and The Racetrack, Death Valley National Park, late 1990's. It gets a lot narrower, steeper, and rougher further on up the track, with a precipitous unprotected fall off the right side down into the canyon. It's about the only 4wd trail that's defeated me and my Subaru in three decades of doing this sort of thing. I think it gets graded every now and then, so there are times when the track's probably quite easy even in a Subaru; this wasn't one of those times…

i get so insane when death valley shows up in media i act like my sports team just won the superbowl. i remember becoming obsessed w this song and seeing the album cover for the first time and immediately clocking the exact location. guys you dont get it this is an insane feat like the salt flats are fragile you cant ride out there on a bike you have to walk and that is easily a mile in. plus this was during the summer where temps have no problem getting to 120. and sumn i dont think ppl realize abt walking on salt flats is a hat only protects the top of your head, the salt is reflecting all that sun back up so you get sunburned on your chin. and on top of that this is the lowest place in n. america at -282 ft. guys the elevation is like a magic spell on that heat that makes it drain your energy 10x faster you feel like your head is in a bubble i cant explain it but its crazy that she did this. beautiful cover i admire the dedication

Snow in Death Valley is an extremely special event that transforms the landscape into a different world. It only took a few minutes for sunrise to bake the Racetrack Playa and destroy all evidence. If you look closely you can see just a hint of snow in the hills beyond the playa. The second and third photos were right around the corner where the air stayed a little cooler. FYI, don’t walk on the playa if it’s moist.
