Ive just found your dwbd au and I love it so much! I honestly love the brothers begging for a second chance. I did have a question though what if dia and Mc ended up in a relationship? How would diavolo react to how they were treated or are being treating if its still early on in the au?
This ended up being more of how MC and Dia get closer but I hope you enjoy! Thanks for the cute idea hehe :)
Purgatory Hall was your main sanctuary from the chaos of the House of Lamentation, but the Demon Lord's Castle was a close second.
You didn't know how it happened, either. Lucifer never failed to remind you about your place in the grand scheme of things: RAD's exchange student and guest of the Devildom you might be, but still you had no business mingling with nobility, let alone royalty. So you took great care to stay in your own lane, go to classes, keep a respectful distance from Diavolo—
Who, for some reason, always seemed to be closer than expected.
You always looked so relaxed at Purgatory Hall, which meant you were getting along with the other exchange students, so it didn't make sense that inviting you over to the castle would elicit such drastic behavior. You sat stiffly, accepted only the pastries offered to you, never reaching for any yourself, and answered every question as though it was on a final exam.
Perhaps you were intimidated. You were in the presence of the Devildom's highest authority, after all. Despite his genuine intent to know you better, Diavolo understood that he had to let you get comfortable on your own terms, let you come to him instead—
Then Barbatos made an offhand quip that had your eyes crinkling with mirth as you bit your lip, and Diavolo knew he couldn't wait anymore.
The invites came liberally. The royal library for a quiet place to study, the guest room for some alone time from a house of rowdy Avatars, a tea party to discuss the latest fixation with the human world…
At first, it was hard to choose: Lucifer's evident disapproval, or Diavolo's kicked puppy look. You finally accepted after several pep talks from your friends; Dracius and Belyth each made excellent points about royal summons and fostering relations, so who were you to decline?
With Barbatos' top-tier service and Diavolo's earnest company, saying 'yes' only became easier.
Diavolo had had countless centuries dealing with nobles who thought they could manipulate him without outright lying. Thanks to Barbatos' careful tutelage, he'd long learnt to read between the lines, to listen to what wasn't said, to discern the truth from their behavior—
And the truth in yours was… heartbreaking. You never lied to him, but you were obviously hiding. It wasn't hard to tell, especially from the way you stood straighter whenever Lucifer was in the room, how you kept your eyes glued to the floor around his brothers…
The night he went to the House of Lamentation for dinner and saw your empty seat? That was when he knew for sure.
Barbatos had promised you pastries in return for your scrumptious cooking and hospitality the other night, but you got the sensing there was more behind the gesture. Every visit to the castle came with an excited prince with an empty schedule for the rest of the day, and a lavish gift that he insisted you take back with you. You had never said a word to him about how you'd been treated by the demon brothers, and yet it felt like he was personally trying to make up for it.
It wasn't a bad feeling to be doted on by royalty. Diavolo paid attention during your conversations, asked thoughtful questions, and remembered the smallest comments on the most mundane things. You quickly found yourself returning to the castle for more, and the guest room Barbatos often prepared for you started to feel like your own as well.
Maybe this exchange program wouldn't be so bad after all…
Procuring tickets for the Devildom Funny Funtime Zoo was trivial. Diavolo was happy to gift you and your friends a full day of fun and exploration, and it gave him the opportunity to introduce his latest student to the Avatars.
Thirteen's traps were a sight to behold. No doubt there would be more complaints from the RAD staff about destruction of property with her around, but watching the reaper going at the demon brothers was the highlight of his day.
He would have words with them of course, but for now, this would suffice.
Let mc from Dwbd au get revenge. Tell mephisto and have him put it in the newspaper. How their hostility is going against the peace diavolo is working towards.
Let them manipulate the brothers with the promise of forgiveness. Show them what happens when you get a human to truly HATE.
Make pride get on his hands and knees and beg for an ounce of forgiveness.
Revenge! Revenge! Revenge!
(I really like your writing! Hope you have an amazing day/night!!)
Sorry this took a while, but I hope I didn't disappoint! MC takes a more stealthy approach to revenge here, but at least Mephisto's more than willing to lend them a hand >:)
It was almost too easy.
You hadn't attended RAD for very long, but demons were demons, and you quickly identified the various cliques amongst the student body: the rich, the bullies, the athletes, the gossips…
Then, it was all a matter of being seen in the right place at the right time.
.
.
.
Mephisto prided himself on running a reputable newspaper club, so he took it upon himself to investigate the troubling rumors circling RAD as of late:
"—found them hiding under a table in one of the classrooms; I think they spent the night in RAD—"
"—their bag's always empty, so don't bother—"
"—uniform's too loose, how unsightly! Come to think of it, I've never seen them eat before—"
"—recommend some concealer for the poor thing, what with those perpetual bags under their eyes—"
Needless to say, it wasn't hard to jump to all the wrong conclusions. The whispers painted an ugly picture that threatened the very core of the exchange program. Still, Mephisto had to do his due diligence and went straight to the source:
"I lost track of Mammon, so I figured staying at RAD would be the safest option," you admitted.
"Didn't those imbeciles give you a D.D.D. to contact them?"
"It was gone by lunchtime. Since it was a brand new phone with the latest model and everything, I have no idea who could have stolen it."
Mephisto didn't think his opinion of the Avatars could get any lower. The way you wouldn't meet his eyes sent a faint pang of pity through his noble heart. "Do they even feed you properly at the House of Lamentation?"
You paused before answering carefully, seemingly reluctant to throw your hosts under the bus. "There's always food on the table. I guess I just haven't gotten used to Devildom cuisine yet."
Lies. Mephisto had money on a certain gluttonous Avatar eating his fill before you had a chance to take a bite. In fact, he suspected nobody even asked if you had any allergies or preferences during mealtimes.
"I've heard enough." The demon shut his notebook and gave you a firm handshake. "Thank you for your time. Please allow me to buy you a coffee for your troubles."
Later, much later, a report would find its way to Diavolo's desk, and a royal summons would be issued to the Avatars. You remained in the house after they had departed for the castle, enjoying the rare peace and quiet, cooking a hearty meal for yourself with the biggest smirk on your face.
DWBD AU. Mammon wants a pact with Kirana. His plans to get it come to fruition.
DWBD AU masterlist here.
// Have you heard from Erkid recently? //
.
\\ Nope, sorry! \\
\\ Is everything okay? :o \\
.
// Idk. He hasn't been replying my messages //
// I'm getting worried //
.
\\ I'll ask around and lyk if I find anything! \\
.
// Thanks doll //
Worry began to creep into Kirana’s heart. Erkid and Talon were usually joined at the hip; if even Talon didn’t know where he was, then something was seriously off.
Nobody in the group chat had seen Erkid either. Igfuur had met up with him the day before for a class project and they had parted ways outside Café Lament. That was the last time any of them had spoken to him.
Kirana texted Dracius, asking if he was up for accompanying her to search the area. Her feet were already walking towards the front door before the lesser demon even replied, but thankfully he quickly agreed to meet her at the house first.
"Keep frowning like that and those wrinkles will stick!" Asmo chided as he descended the stairs to the foyer, all dressed up for an outing in town. Satan trailed behind him, grumbling about carrying shopping bags like a pack mule. "What's wrong, hon?"
"Asmo, you've got followers everywhere, right? Can you help me find someone?" Kirana practically teleported to his side.
"What's going on?" Satan immediately noticed how anxious she was. Despite their change of heart towards her and repeated offers to reconcile, she'd always kept them at a polite distance. For her to approach them like this… Something was wrong.
"Erkid's missing. Dracius and I are gonna head out and try to look for him, but if you know anyone who saw him recently—"
"Say no more. One post to Devilgram and we'll find him in no time!"
"I'll tell the rest to keep an eye out as well," Satan said, whipping out his D.D.D. and firing off a text to the family chat.
"Thank you." Kirana wrung her hands. "I'm so sorry for the trouble—"
"It's no trouble at all," Satan assured her with his best smile. "We're glad you came to us for help. In fact, I'll personally make sure that—"
"Where did you last see him? I can pull security footage from the area!" Levi ran into the foyer carrying his laptop, oblivious to the way Satan's smile twitched.
"What does he smell like?" Beel lumbered out of the kitchen with a snoring Belphie on his back. "I can track him down if you give me some food. The fridge is empty again…"
Even the ever-busy Lucifer emerged from his study, a rare sight this time of day. "Tell me every last detail and I will have him found by the end of the day."
Kirana slowly backed towards the door, overwhelmed by all the attention. She bumped into something and gasped, turning around to see Dracius holding his hands up, prepared to catch her if she tripped.
"Is this a bad time?" He asked softly, eyes darting to the crowd behind her. "I can wait outside, if you want—"
"No need to fear, The Great Mammon is here!" The Avatar of Greed was the last to arrive, strolling in with a loud laugh. Most of his brothers rolled their eyes, but he ignored them. "I know where yer friend is."
Kirana's expression brightened with hope, but before she could say anything—
"Buuut it'll cost ya!" Mammon smirked.
"You… you scumbag!" Levi nearly dropped his laptop. "You extortionist!"
"Mammon, how could you do this to poor Kirana?" Asmo wailed. "Demanding Grimm at a time like this—"
"I don't want yer money," Mammon clarified, relishing the way his brothers spluttered in shock. Even Belphie was blinking sleepily at him, and then he dropped the bombshell: "Make a pact with me, and I'll tell ya where he is."
Dead silence.
The room was torn between looking at Mammon and Kirana. While the former had his chest puffed out, oozing confidence from head to toe, the latter was frozen still, eyes wide and jaw slack. Dracius had moved to stand next to his pact holder and was watching her closely, prepared to act on her next command.
Satan only had eyes for Kirana as well, but for a different reason entirely. While the feeling was muted due to the lack of a pact, he could still sense her wrath mounting by the second. A part of him was curious as to how she would respond to Mammon's ransom; the anticipation was killing him, until—
*sniff*
Mammon folded like a wet napkin. "Wait, are you—"
Kirana bawled. Surrounded by millennia-old beings who had absolutely no clue how to deal with a distressed human, her anger erupted into tears, loud sobbing and shuddering breaths.
Dracius looked like he was seriously considering punching an Avatar of Sin in the face, consequences be damned, but it was Satan who proposed a solution.
"Brothers, a wager." His voice was eerily calm. "First one to beat the location out of Mammon wins."
"Done." Lucifer took off his gloves. Levi closed his laptop and set it aside. Asmo licked his lips. Beel helped Belphie onto his feet, the younger twin looking more alert than ever. Satan's tail was already uncoiling itself from his leg.
"Waitwaitwait, it's just a joke! I was kidding! Let's talk about this— AAHHHH!!!!!!!!"
.
.
.
"I'm fine, really! It wasn't that bad!" Erkid insisted hours later.
"You were kidnapped and held hostage!" Talon raged. "Why I oughta—"
"This must be that syndrome we learnt about in Human Studies." Belyth marveled. "You said the crows kept you fed and sheltered?"
"They even brought me a blanket at night! All they didn't do was let me leave, but the alley's pretty cozy once you get used to it!"
Igfuur shook his head in disbelief. "Dude…"
"I'm just glad you're alright," Vorgo sighed. "You guys wanna come over? I made too much food stress-cooking."
"You're the best!" Rache whooped in delight. "I think we could all use some R&R. Let's do karaoke after!"
Dracius held Kirana's hand as she watched the reunion with puffy eyes. But she was smiling now, and that was all that mattered to him.
I keep imagining all those little details from the games that really make it fun. (For us)
In NB the bros weren’t well liked and it’s likely that there are still many demons who hate that they got these positions. It’s not hard to realize that Dia manipulated things into that direction.
So demons taking advantage of our existence to undermine them.
Ranging from being publicly better hosts towards us, maybe if they could make it so some other demon houses us it would hurt the brother’s reputation.
Making it abundantly clear that any issues we have are because of or related to the bros( a la Mephisto)
Or trying to get the bros to take their bullying to far, extensively injuring us or causing some kind of incident that ruins or at the very least threatens the program.
Hot damn, what a fresh take! I can totally see the regular demons trying to win MC over just to make the Avatars look worse than they already do! They'd probably think twice about threatening the exchange program since that would pit them against Diavolo (though the nobles may have less qualms about that), but everything else? Fair game.
That being said, the demon brothers won't be the only ones affected by this…
"I don't like it."
"Belyth, your jealousy is showing—"
"No, she's right. I don't like it either."
"You too, Tal?"
"We were here first!" Belyth slammed a hand on the table. "And now those wannabes think they can just waltz in and cozy up to—"
"That's what a fanclub does, unfortunately." Dracius adjusted his glasses and sighed. "At least they're being nice—"
Talon scoffed. "Bullshit. They're just trying to upstage the Avatars. They couldn't care less about—"
"Actually..." Erkid shook his head in a rare show of disagreement with his best friend. "I think they're starting to get it."
The idea had been simple, at first. Play nice with the exchange student, and basically act like saints compared to the Avatars of Sin. A low bar, but still the movement garnered coordinated effort from most of RAD's student body: Demons took turns to lend you stationery in class, buy you food when your wallet disappeared, offer to partner up during assignments… small things that most of them wouldn't normally think twice about.
But you remembered all of them. You asked for their names, wrote short thank-you notes for their "kindness", and always greeted them with a warm, genuine smile.
Suddenly, your seven lesser demon friends found themselves with a lot more competition.
The group chat pinged with a text from Rache: Another fancy coffee from Mephisto. He tried to extend an invitation this weekend too, but Vorgo and Igfuur blocked it.
RAD's newpapers had been full of reports on school events lately, with plenty of articles and photos featuring the various exchange students and highlighting how well they'd taken to the Devildom… and not one mention of the Avatars in sight. Esteemed members of the student council they might be, but far were they from being favored by the populace.
(In fact, based on an unofficial survey, your popularity was starting to soar even beyond Asmodeus'.)
What about the RAD slumber party? Dracius asked.
…It's been approved.
"Damn. We'll have our work cut out for us," Talon hissed.
Lucifer had noticed, of course he did. His pride demanded that he take control of the situation, prove to every lesser demon that he and his brothers could be the ideal hosts and provide you with everything you could ever need—
But wasn't it stifling to have to obey so many rules? How could you probably immerse yourself in Devildom culture if you only interacted with the Lords and not the common folk? Such were the key points your fanclub drove home when they proposed the upcoming campus-wide event to Diavolo, giving the school community the opportunity to properly welcome humans and angels alike.
(And if it made the Avatars look like sticks in the mud, then what a delightful coincidence.)
"I'm sure it won't be too bad!" Erkid said. "With seven of us around, we'll make sure no one tries anything funny—"
"They won't," Belyth muttered under her breath, already thinking of how to rig the sleeping arrangements in their favor.
DWBD AU. The end of the exchange program... or is it?
DWBD AU masterlist here. Requested by @ijustreadfanficsforaliving, sorry for the wait!
The portal had been active for some time now, but your friends weren't ready to say goodbye just yet. Luckily for them, Barbatos didn't seem to mind keeping it open a little longer.
Dracius tried to maintain his composure, but the heavy slump of his shoulders gave him away. Erkid clung to your arm silently as you made your rounds. Belyth was in mother hen mode, lecturing you about staying hydrated and taking your medicines, while Talon simply gave you a fist bump and offered her muscles if you ever ran into trouble. Vorgo chimed in about not skipping meals, Igfuur handed you another handmade stuffed toy to keep the ones he had already given you company, and Rache made the tenth promise to dedicate her debut album to you.
You had gotten gifts for everyone, little trinkets that reminded you of them and the memories you made together, hoping the lesser demons would continue to remain friends even without you as the common factor. Everyone's eyes were damp as they accepted your token of friendship, but they were smiling at the end of it.
All in all, a very touching and emotional farewell.
The surprise was visible in the Avatars' eyes when you approached them with small gifts of their own. They hadn't exactly been the ideal hosts, but they learned eventually. They tried. So you shook their hands with a smile and thanked them for their hospitality.
A far cry from hugs and tears, but it was better than nothing. Humbled, the demon lords could only wish you well in your future endeavors.
As you made your way towards the portal for the last time, a smirk crept onto your face. Tugging at the nearest demon, you whispered something into Igfuur's ear.
Nobody had ever seen the lesser Sloth demon look so alert so quickly. You winked at him, and he nodded dumbly.
With one last smile and a wave, you vanished through the portal, and the throne room was silent once again.
"What was that about?" Rache whispered loudly, staring at a stunned Igfuur, who quickly pulled out his phone.
"They said they just transferred me Grimm for last week's dinner," he mumbled, frowning at the notification on the screen. "But why—"
Belyth grabbed his arm with wide eyes. "That means their bank account is still open."
"I guess—?"
Even Vorgo was staring at their phone. "They just liked my Devilgram post."
"And they reacted to Talon's message in the group chat. Their D.D.D. line is still active," Dracius concluded.
"So we can still call them and talk and video chat and everything?!" Erkid gave a loud whoop. "I call first dibs!"
"And I'm next." Talon's grin practically dared the others to try and fight her for it.
"Oi… Is that even allowed?" Mammon nudged Lucifer, who was looking at Diavolo questioningly.
The prince laughed. "The inaugural exchange program may have ended, but my quest for harmony between the three realms remains ongoing. We can't allow forged bonds to be severed so easily now, can we?"
DWBD AU. When Diavolo comes over to the House of Lamentation for dinner, the demon brothers realize it would be a perfect opportunity for you to expose their horrible treatment of you.
DWBD AU masterlist here.
"Don't you dare," Lucifer pointed directly at you, causing your foot to hover just above the threshold, "take one step further."
You didn't know how he caught you trying to enter the kitchen while his attention was focused on Beel. Maybe he really did have eyes in the back of his head. "I don't mind helping—"
"We got this, so scram!" Mammon yelled from behind the stove. Black smoke was already wafting out from his pot.
You knew Lord Diavolo coming over for dinner would be a big deal, but you didn't think it'd be this big. The prince wanting to eat human world food wasn't too surprising; trying different cuisines was part of cultural exchange after all, and it made sense to host the meal on your home turf, so to speak.
The Avatars didn't take the news well, however. You thought they'd be thrilled to have the opportunity to enjoy your cooking again, but instead of leaving all the work to you as you'd expected, they demanded detailed step-by-step instructions for whatever dishes you were planning to make and told you to stay out of the kitchen. At most, you would be allowed to take on a supervisory role, but with Lucifer refusing to even let you in past the doorway, there was only so much you could do.
"Psst, hey!" You glanced towards the nearby window to see No. 2 waving at you cheerfully. "Can you open the front door? I have reinforcements!"
To your surprise, reinforcements came in the form of seven little D's and the Lord of Time himself.
"Good afternoon. How are the preparations for tonight's meal coming along?" At Barbatos' signal, the little D's scurried into the house carrying baskets of fresh groceries.
"I've been banned from the kitchen, for some reason," you admitted, wincing when you heard Asmo's shrill scream and a loud crash. "…I don't think they're doing too well though."
"That won't do. My Lord sent me ahead specifically to ensure dinner goes smoothly." Barbatos rubbed his chin and hummed. "If the little D's and I were to assist you, would the preparations be completed in time?"
"Sure thing! It won't be the first time I've had to cook for such a large group, but I'll take all the help I can get!"
"Wonderful, I'll be with you in just a moment. Please excuse me."
A blink, and Barbatos was gone.
.
.
.
Things were spiraling out of control.
Mammon and Levi kept fighting over the utensils and recipes. At some point, the steps you had painstakingly written down got drenched and became illegible, forcing them to improvise.
Beel insisted on taste testing everything, taking bite after bite until plates and bowls were scraped clean. Belphie was there to keep his twin in check, but mostly ended up dozing under the counter.
Asmo refused to risk chipping his nails doing menial work and was backseat cooking behind Satan, who started burning more food out of sheer irritation. Several pots and pans had already become dented beyond repair.
Lucifer made a valiant attempt to manage his brothers, but to no avail. Even if he wasn't constantly undermining you when you tried to give instructions from the doorway, he kept trying to take over the individual tasks, insisting he could do them better. This dinner was going to make or break the exchange program and everything had to be absolutely perfect or—
"Gentlemen," was the only warning before a blur shot through the kitchen, knocking everyone off their feet and forcibly throwing them all out. Barbatos stood over the resultant pile of limbs and dusted his gloved hands with a dangerous glint in his eyes. "We'll take over from here."
Lucifer tried to rise to his feet. "But—"
"Do set the table in the meantime. I trust even that should be within your capabilities?"
The butler's tone practically threatened a surprise house inspection if they didn't comply. Effectively cowed at that point, the brothers obeyed.
.
.
.
Lord Diavolo's laughter echoed all the way into the kitchen, and you grinned to yourself as his generous compliments reached your ears.
"Are you sure you don't want to join them? We can handle the rest in here," No. 2 asked.
"Nah, I'm good. I'll probably feel super out of place there anyway." You added another heap of ingredients into the boiling pot. "Did you remember to remove my plate from the table?"
"I did!" No. 5 piped up. "Did I do a good job?"
"Aww, yes you did!"
"Yayyy~!"
"Do not forget that you are our guest too, in this realm." Barbatos spoke up softly, and all the chatter from the little D's immediately fell silent. "From the way you're avoiding dining with the Avatars, it's clear we've been remiss in our hospitality."
Of course Barbatos would see through your act. After all, his own placid smile hid secrets you couldn't even begin to imagine. "Really, it's fine! I'm used to it by now. Besides, someone's gotta keep the food coming, and you guys are technically the guests here so…"
The corners of the butler's lips twitched upwards. "Touché. In that case, I will personally see to it that you are rewarded for your hard work tonight. Why don't you begin by telling me your favorite pastries?"
.
.
.
Despite your exhaustion, you stood at attention when Lord Diavolo shook your hand at the end of the meal, thanking you for serving up such a scrumptious dinner. Your smile was genuine as you waved him goodbye at the front door, and you only allowed it to drop once all the castle's residents have left through a portal.
Behind you, the brothers were sweating bullets as they watched you lower your hand and just stand there, staring into the distance while their minds raced.
Did you say anything to Barbatos while you had him alone? It would have been a golden opportunity for you to air your many grievances to him; half the things the brothers had done to you would have easily seen them thrown into the royal dungeons for being such poor hosts.
You had never dared to approach Lord Diavolo yourself in spite of his friendly demeanor, partially due to Lucifer's many reminders about knowing your place. But he never expected the prince to come to you instead, and so he had rallied his brothers to ensure you wouldn't have to lift a finger tonight, a last ditch effort to persuade you to hold your tongue. So much for that plan.
"We're sorry…" Beel said quietly once all of you had gone back inside. All the satisfaction from eating your cooking had faded away after seeing you emerge from the kitchen completely wiped out. He didn't need his Sin to tell you hadn't eaten anything all night.
"No you're not." The words came out before you could stop yourself. You were more tired than you thought, and your brain-to-mouth filter just wasn't working anymore. "If you were, you'd do better. All of you. But I guess that was too much to ask for."
The atmosphere around the brothers was heavy with shame and guilt. They really screwed up, didn't they? Asmo attempted to steer you towards your room. "Why don't you go and rest while we clean up—"
"The dishes are already done. The little D's took care of that—"
"How about some cup noodles then?" Mammon suggested loudly. "C'mon, ya must be hungry—"
"I'm not feeling like instant food at the moment—"
The doorbell rang all of a sudden, freezing everybody in place. No one dared to move for fear of finding Diavolo on the other side, as unlikely as that was. But there was only one way to find out who was calling on them at this hour.
"Yo," Vorgo greeted you with a lazy salute when you opened the door. "Hope this isn't a bad time. Is the coast clear?"
"You're good. Lord Diavolo already left." Just the sight of your friend was enough to lift your spirits, and you found yourself smiling at them easily. "What's up?"
"Special delivery." The lesser demon held up several containers of food. "Figured you'd be run ragged tonight, so I thought you could use a pick-me-up. I made that casserole you like, plus a few other things—"
"I love you," you blurted out before slapping a hand over your mouth.
Vorgo looked a little taken aback but recovered quickly with a laugh and flushed cheeks. "You're most welcome! Get some rest and I'll see you in class, okay?"
The smell of warm, homemade food was making your empty stomach roar loud enough to rival Beel, but you were past caring at this point. You bid Vorgo farewell and prepared to retreat to your room for some well-earned downtime.
"…Why didn't you say anything to Diavolo, or Barbatos for that matter?" Satan asked just as you were about to ascend the stairs. They hadn't mentioned a word about your treatment before they departed, seemingly none the wiser about how much you had suffered under the brothers' care. "You would have gotten everything you deserved, and yet…"
"I didn't think they'd care, to be honest," you shrugged. They were royalty after all, while you were just some human, and the brothers' behavior could easily be written off as demons being demons. "Even if they did, they probably wouldn't believe me."
Nobody told you Diavolo was a walking lie detector. Even if you had decided to spare them, he would have found out eventually, and then you would come to realize just how much he truly valued your well-being in his kingdom.
Lucifer sighed once you had left. "Belphie, make sure—"
"Deep sleep, no dreams. I got it."
"Levi—"
"I've got manga to catch up on so you won't hear a peep from my room."
Beel offered to make you breakfast the next morning, and Asmo whipped out his D.D.D. to book you an appointment for a manicure. Goodness knows you could use one after putting your hands through the wringer tonight.
Mammon was preparing a list of groceries to stock up in the kitchen while Satan volunteered to cover your lesson notes and homework for the next few days.
"Of course, that goes without question." Lucifer nodded when Satan gave him a pointed look. He would personally ensure that you had the rest of the week off from RAD. After your performance tonight, he doubted Diavolo would object to the idea.
DWBD AU. Thirteen hits the brothers with some hard truths (and a few traps).
DWBD AU masterlist here.
Thirteen wasn't smiling even as she fiddled with her latest trap. Not a trace of glee could be found on her stony face, and that was when the brothers realized she meant business.
"You're exaggerating!" Asmo laughed nervously, trying to lighten the mood despite not sounding so confident anymore. "Surely it can't be that serious—"
"I've seen it too many times to count. What did you think would happen if you tried to cut someone off from their friends, their support network?" She looked up with a sneer. "That they'd just cozy up to the next person who showered them with attention?"
Mammon shrugged helplessly. "Well, yeah—"
"Not when you're the cause of their isolation, you idiots!" The reaper's voice dropped below freezing. "Do you know how many humans have snuffed out their own candles from being bullied so relentlessly?"
"This isn't bullying; it's ensuring their safety," Lucifer said calmly. "The Devildom Funny Funtime Zoo is home to many dangerous beasts and—"
"And they already have seven escorts plus two angels and a shitty excuse for a sorcerer!" Thirteen tucked her tools away and pointed a colorful bazooka at the brothers, causing the group to freeze in place. "So back. The fuck. Off."
"W-what's it to you, anyway?" Levi dared to argue. "You didn't like them at first either, and now you're acting like their new best friend? It's so not fair!"
Thirteen grinned manically. She strode forward while keeping the bazooka locked and loaded, forcing the brothers to retreat further, unknowingly towards a hidden 'X' on the ground. "I have my reasons."
Satan lifted his chin with a scoff. "You don't scare us. I bet that thing just shoots confetti or something—"
Beel triggered the trap with his weight, and the twins went down first. The ground quickly opened up beneath the rest after that, sending them plummeting into the pitfall with lots of shouting and cursing.
With her targets cornered in a hole, Thirteen took aim and fired away.
.
.
.
The reaper's loud cackling drew smiles from one of the many balconies of the Demon Lord's Castle.
"Convincing Thirteen to join the exchange program was a wise decision, My Lord." Barbatos remarked as he served the Prince another cup of tea. "Did you foresee this outcome?"
"Not this specifically, but close enough." Diavolo took a sip and sighed with satisfaction. "Human resiliency is a remarkable thing, isn't it? They were able to thrive despite everything thrown at them."
"Careful, one might think you condone the Avatars' past behavior."
"Not at all! In fact, I believe some punishment is in order."
Barbatos gave a closed-eye smile. "Why, I think they're doing a fine job of that themselves, don't you agree?"
