There... there had to be a bright side to this, right?
Her mother did it again. She took her away the second she showed signs of rebellion, and was driving her to a completely new place, and ruining her chances to grow into a full person and be accepted --
But there had to be something good about this place.
In her mother’s eyes, Fortuna was the ideal place to make the move to. She wasn’t familiar with the area at all, unfortunately. All she knew was that the area was heavily religious (without even knowing what they worshiped), and decided it was best that Carrie be influenced by more “godly” sorts.
“These are godless times, Carrie,” Her mother kept saying, on the ride there. “You’re never going to see that boy again. I’m not letting him hurt you. I’m not letting any of them hurt you ever again. You’ll be safer here...”
Carrie stayed silent. She knew if she said a word, her mother would probably lock her in a brand new closet. So she watched as her mother drove her to her new home, and just listened to her go on about how great this was. ... And maybe she was right. After all, now nobody knew who she was. Nobody wanted to make fun of her, or trick her.
But just to be sure...
“Don’t speak to any boys while you’re here. They always come after the blood, sniffing dogs, deliverers of sin. And watch the girls, too.” Her mother said, taking out her things from the car. “Come inside when you’re ready.”
“... Yes, Mama.”
As her mother entered the stone-cold white building, Carrie waited outside, holding her legs and trembling. By now she was starting to give up on ever fitting in.
