DWTS What Just Happened
(Disclaimer: What I’m about to rant about is not a personal attack on the finalists, they are all incredible dancers. That being said, I am about to state some of my strong opinions.)
First off, getting the elephant out of the room, James Van Der Beek deserved to stay in the competition this week.
Now lets dive into this:
James has been performing with utmost quality this season. His scores on the average have been tied for second with Hannah, both having a total score of 326 currently, and James scoring an average of 25.1 each week. In addition, James is the highest scoring dancer for 5 of this seasons dance styles. (Team Dance, Jive, Contemporary, Foxtrot, and Cha-cha-cha). He has also been in the top 5 (being in the top two most weeks) every week this season, except for this Monday. This Monday was his first time in the bottom.
James managed to dance with everything that had been going on this week, his wife miscarried and he lost their baby not even two days before he got on that stage and pour his heart out to the judges. (Who decided to give him 9′s but they are the professionals, I’ll be talking about the judging in a moment). What he did takes strength and love for the dancing. DWTS is only a reality show, but it has become so much more than that to the dancers and the fans. It is about emotion and love and growth. James has given us so much emotion in his dances, his partner Emma has done a fantastic job with the choreography.
From the very beginning of this season I had two clear final two dancers: James and Kel. Both grew so quickly, delivering energy, passion, emotion, and technical skill to the audience and the judges all week. (Now that James has been eliminated, Kel is my choice for the win). I could have never predicted that those two would not be the final two together, I really couldn’t have.
These two are just so good, they have come an incredible way, and both of them deserved to be in the final two.
Now we need to talk about Ally.
Ally has been a strong competitor this season, arguably deserving to be in the top five, however she is just not as good of a dancer as the others. It has been clear to me for half of the season now, the judges have been favoring her. I don’t get it, for the first half of the season she under-performed, and before last Monday she had been in the bottom two twice. Ally has gotten perfect scores several times now, her first time in week 8 for her Paso Doble. (Might I add James was the only other person to get all Tens that week as well for his Contemporary?). Ally has gotten perfect scores a total of 4 times now, where arguably better dancers such as Kel have been getting lower scores for better dances. Ally is a good dancer but not this good. The favoritism towards her was most notable last night during her Charleston. Several times during the dance she was off-beat and out of sync with her partner Sasha. However, the judges (on a really technical heavy judging season) gave her perfect scores.
In this dance, she was supposed to be in sync with Sasha, but wasn’t. Mistakes are perfectly fine, she is only human, but when the judges give her perfect scores on a dance with clear mistakes even to me,(a non dancer who only took ballet for a couple years back when I was in elementary school) when they would give a different dancer this season 8′s or at best 9′s for the same dance? It is so clear that they favor her. I’m not trying to be mean, especially towards Ally but favoritism like this is not O.K. It’s not fair to her and is especially not fair to the other dancers.
Yes, Ally did try and giver her place to James twice Monday night, but there really isn’t any way he could have accepted her offer, without making himself look bad or fans getting mad at him (even with all that is going on in his personal life). It’s just not something anyone would do, especially not him.
Both of these dancers are incredibly nice people, but favoritism like this needs to be called out. When they were in the bottom two, both Carrie Ann and Bruno said that they were considering the whole season when they made their decision, but clearly did not. James had never been in the bottom two before and Ally had been in the bottom two 3 times. Eliminating someone is hard, especially this far into the season, but eliminating someone who has never been in the bottom two over someone who has been in the bottom two 3 times doesn’t make sense.
TLDR: James should not have been eliminated. Period.
My heart goes out to James and his family, This is a terrible time for them and I give them the best of wishes. My family will miss your incredible dances.
So why bother voting if the judges are just going to keep saving someone who has been in the bottom 2 multiple times.
I know the show is trying not to have another Billy Bones situation going on, but this is ridiculous. Also, I call BS on "based on the whole season" reasoning. James was safe from the dance off elimination like 2 weeks ago for having the highest point total, but suddenly Ally had the best season.
And I'm not even hating on Ally either as she was in my top 3 all season. But are the judges going to pick the final winner too?
This is the first time in a while that I enjoyed all of the freestyles in one season. I truly love that everyone played to their strengths and the dances were centered around the celeb and their style of dancing and their roots. It reminded me of the old freestyles especially those of the single digit seasons.
FUCK SEAN SPICER
I LOVE Ally, but the judge’s have been clearly padding her scores for at least the last two weeks which was evident tonight by her perfect score for a Charleston that had multiple mistakes.
James had 1 off night because of devastating personal circumstances after out-dancing every other single contestant the entire season and they eliminate him?
BULLSHIT
