Are you still doing your Number extravaganza? If so could you please do 80, 81, or 82? With a teenage!Derek and Lydia? I love baby Derek and Lydia and I can totally see this happening if they were the same age.
(sorry I’ve been slow on the writing friends)
Okay so, I wrote this with Derek and Lydia being the same age, which means alive Hale family, which means happy Derek. From what we saw in the flashbacks when he was in high school, I think it’s safe to say that he was a cocky little shit, so I feel like the characterization of him here is okay. I hope you all enjoy it. (also just kind of incorporated the second prompt in this one. I have another one about ducklings and one about picking up stray animals, and there’s only so many original ideas I can come up with! But there is more coming)
80. I pretty much live in detention and you’re a straight A student here on your first offense. Wanna add another and skip detention with me
121. “I aggressively protects this box of kittens during the day and it turns out when I’m not here you’re here to protect them” AU
To put it lightly, Lydia is beyondpissed that she’s on her way to after school detention. Lydia Martin doesn’tget detention. What kind of teacher gives the valedictorian detention?
The answer to that is Mr. Harris. Because he’s a dick. But even so, he’salways liked Lydia. Which is why this whole thing is Stiles Stilinski and ScottMcCall’s fault. If they hadn’t drawn her into an argument about whether or notwerewolves were scientifically possible, she would have heard Mr. Harris starting class. Even worse, Harris insisted onputting the three of them in separate detentions, so she couldn’t even glare atStiles (because really, everything comes back to Stiles) for the duration.
With all this weighing on her mind, she storms into Coach Finstock’sclassroom, slamming her book bag down onto a desk in the middle of the room.Slouching in the chair, she kicks her heels up onto the chair in front of herwith a loud huff.
“Maybe you should do that again, try and see if you can be a littlemore dramatic this time.” A voice drawls from her. Lydia absolutely doesnot jump okay. She does take a few seconds to compose herself before glaringover her shoulder, not at all surprised by the person she finds sitting in theback of the room. He’s glaring, which isn’t unusual, all dark gelled hair andthick eyebrows and ears he hasn’t quite grown into yet. Even so, he’s almosttoo handsome with light eyes the color of the ocean down in the Caribbean, ajaw carved from marble and lips like a harsh slash beneath his sharp nose. Shesuspects his smile is devastating, but she’s never seen it herself.
“Why am I not surprised to find you here Hale?” Lydia snaps, simpering phonily at him. He just smirks and stretches in his seat, long legssticking out from beneath the desk. She ignores the thrum of interest at thebase of her spine, instead letting her eyes flick over him, slowly. Most boyssquirm under her appraising gaze, but Derek Hale seems content there, undoubtedly knowing she won’t find him lacking. He’s right of course. Thesleeves of his green plaid shirt are rolled up to reveal toned forearms andit’s falling open, all of the buttons undone. His chest is defined for aseventeen year old, the low neckline of his tight gray tank top giving her aneyeful of his collarbones and a sprinkling of dark chest hair. He’s definitelyhot. That’s for sure.
“Like what you see princess?” He asks, eyes sparkling as hislips curl cockily. It’s a good look on him. Everything is unfortunately. Lydiadoesn’t deign that with an answer, preferring to sniff loudly and turn back tothe front. She doesn’t have time for wannabe juvenile delinquent jocks, nomatter how attractive they are. Pulling out her calculus homework, she beginsto work on it, toe tapping against the tile floor as her pencil scratches acrossthe paper.
The silence lasts for maybe five minutes, and it is a glorious fiveminutes. Of course, nothing good can last. “Hey princess,” Derekdrawls, the sound of boots on tile walking up the aisle behind her. Lydiadutifully ignores it, staring hard at the math problems in the book on her desk.Derek doesn’t seem to mind, settling into the desk in front of her, smirk stillplaying around his mouth. “Wanna get out of here?”
Lydia levels him with a flat look before returning her attention to herhomework. “Oh come on, live a little.” She doesn’t look up this time, even though she wants to, even though there’s something inside of her that justneeds to see the mischief dancing in his eyes. “The answer is one twentysix.” Derek says, and that has Lydia jerking her head up. He just shrugswith one shoulder, but he looks pleased with himself, eyes crinkling in thecorners. Lydia forgets sometimes that Derek’s in all her AP classes too, thathe only manages to get in trouble for halfthe shit he pulls because he gets such good grades and he’s charming to boot. It’s annoying is what it is.
“Thanks Hale,” she sneers, letting her eyes flick over himagain in an as judgmental way as she could possibly muster. She realizes toolate that she’s spending way too much time blatantly checking him out, and Dereknis definitely noticing. “I think I’ve got this.” Her words carry morevenom than she intended, but she’s trying desperately to cover up the desirebuilding within her chest to trace her fingers down the veins in his forearms,to feel the stubble she can see prickling along his jaw scraping against thesensitive skin of her neck. And she swears Hale knows, there’s just somethingabout the way his eyes seem to be drawn to the pulse in her throat, the way hisnostrils flare every so often. It should be creepy, his almost predatory way oflooking at her, but instead it makes her feel hot all over in the best waypossible. “What do you want anyways?” She snaps, swallowing hard whenher words come out hoarser than they should.
“I just think there’s plenty of better things I could be doing witha pretty girl on a Friday afternoon than sitting in an empty classroom.”Derek shrugs again. “Plus Finstock doesn’t even show up to his detentionshifts.”
“Then why are you here?” Lydia sniffs, choosing to ignore hisobvious attempt at a come on. Everyone thinks she’s pretty, just because Derekhale feels the need to tell her that doesn’t mean she’s going to be swooning athis feet.
“Because I knew you were gonna be here, obviously.”
Lydia glances up at him sharply surprised to find the tips of his earsturning pink. It’s startlingly adorable, and she knows in that moment thatshe’s going to go with him. Wherever hewants to go.
“What do you have in mind?” She asks coyly, letting her lipspart just slightly as she looks up at him through her lashes. Derek swallowshard, Adam’s apple bobbing, and Lydia is overcome with the urge to bite it. Buthe seems to recover, broad shoulders straightening as he stands and reaches forher hand.
“Let me show you.”
Lydia’s not exactly sure why she places her hand in his, or why she letshim shoulder her bag of books and lead her through the empty halls. It shouldbe strange, practically holding hands with a boy she’s only ever spoken to ahandful of times. Instead there’s a thrill running through her veins and she’ssqueezing his fingers tighter, grinning at him when he smirks at her over hisshoulder. He holds a finger to his lips as they scurry past the principal’soffice and then burst out into the afternoon sunlight.
There’s a black Camaro reflecting the sun back at them, and Lydia hasseen it before, but she hadn’t realized, not until Derek leads her over to thepassenger side, that it’s his. He opens the door for her, and Lydia settlesinside, unable to stop the slight flush she knows is appearing on her cheeks. As much experience as she’s had with the boys at Beacon Hills High, she’s neverexactly been treated like a lady. And here’s Derek Hale, resident bad boy, smiling genuinely at her before closing the door and sliding across the hood.
“You’re ridiculous,” Lydia huffs when he climbs behind thewheel, settling back into the seat and pulling the belt across her chest.
“And you’re into it,” Derek shoots back with a grin as hestarts the car. Lydia turns away from him, staring out the window so he won’tsee the way her cheeks flush. She doesn’t deny it though, something tells herthat Derek will know she’s lying. He backs out of the spot and then peels tireneedlessly, even if it does send a thrill up Lydia’s spine as her fingers curlagainst the soft leather seats. She glances over at Derek only to catch himwatching her, bottom lip caught between his teeth. Heat blooms in the pit ofher stomach as he looks shyly away, ears and neck flushing red.
“You gonna tell me where we’re going?” Lydia asks, crossing herlegs primly as she raises and eyebrow. Derek’s lips lift into a half smile whenhe glances over at her, but it drops when his eyes catch on her bare legs.
“You’ll see,” he chokes out, turning quickly back towards theroad. Lydia sighs and settles back into the seat, letting her fingers traceover the stitches running down the side. It’s roomier in here than Jackson’sPorsche, and she kind of likes it better, even though she knows the Porschecosts exponentially more. Plus, Jackson didn’t ever open the door for her.Derek turns the music up after that, the latest pop song bumping in thespeakers. His jaw is set like he’s waiting for her to make fun of him, but Lydiajust hums along, swaying slightly with the beat.
She’s surprised when Derek parks in front of the animal clinic and turnsoff the engine. He doesn’t offer any further explanation before climbing out,and he makes it over to her side of the car faster than she would have thoughtpossible.
“Come on princess,” he smirks, once again holding his hand outfor her to take. Lydia narrows her eyes but curls her fingers around his andclimbs out of the car. Derek’s eyes are warm and he opens his mouth as if tosay something before snapping it abruptly closed. He leads her inside, droppingher hand like it’s on fire when the dark haired woman standing behind the frontdesk clears her throat. “Mom.” Derek huffs, and Lydia snaps her gazeback to the now grinning woman. “What are you doing here?”
“Dr. Deaton asked me to come in, he needed an extra set ofhands.” Her dark eyes flit between Derek and Lydia. “What are youdoing here dear?” Derek huffs again, shoving his hands into his pocketsand hunching his shoulders.
“Just showing princess here the puppies,” he mumbles towardsthe floor, staring at the toe of his boot. Lydia rolls her eyes and stepsforward, holding her hand out towards Derek’s mom.
“Lydia Martin,” she says primly. “It’s a pleasure to meetyou Mrs. Hale.”
“Please, call me Talia,” the older woman says, taking Lydia’shand in a firm handshake. “This is the first time Derek’s introduced me tosomeone he’s dating.”
“Oh we’re not-” Lydia starts at the same time as Dereklegitimately growls at his mom.
“She is not my girlfriend Mom!” His hand is warm as it curlsaround her wrist, tugging her gently towards a door in the corner. “Youare so embarrassing.”
The sound of Talia’s laughter follows them, and Lydia can’t help butfind the way Derek’s entire face is flushed all too endearing.
“You’re so cute,” she teases, grinning when he glares at herand drops her wrist. The slight annoyance at the loss is quickly overridden bythe high pitched whines coming from the corner of the room Derek had draggedher into. “Oh. My. God.” Lydia holds in a squeal as she practicallyruns across the room, falling to her knees beside a kiddie pool with a dozensquirming puppies inside. Derek drops down beside her, and when she looks up athim he’s honest to god smiling.
She was right of course. She always is.
Derek Hale’s smile is absolutely devastating. It only gets worse when he picks up a puppy and cuddles it to his chest beforehanding it gently to Lydia. “They’re only three weeks old,” heexplains as Lydia pets the squirming ball of black fur in her arms.“Someone dropped them off at the backdoor.” She drags her eyes awayfrom the puppy to look back up at Derek. He’s got a gray one snuggled upagainst the curve of his neck, his eyes almost going crossed as he looks downat the puppy. It’s too much cute to handle, and she has to fight back the urgeto pull out her phone and take a picture.
“You volunteer here don’t you?” She asks instead, not evencaring that her voice sounds breathy. Derek ducks his head, eyes slowly comingup to meet hers. He just nods, and Lydia can’t take it anymore, can’t fightback that want that’s been buildingin her chest since he teased her in detention. “You’re right,” shehums, reaching out her unoccupied hand and curling her fingers in the thinfabric of his tank top. “I’m totally into it.” Derek’s eyes widenwith surprise, but he lets her pull him towards her, and he sighs against hermouth when she presses her lips to his. He sets his puppy down and manages toput hers back in the pool without breaking the kiss, and then there’s fingersin her hair and a strong arm wrapped around her waist, dragging her closer.Teeth close around her bottom lip, tugging until she moans. Derek’s chestrumbles against hers in response, and then there’s a warm tongue pushingbetween her lips, flicking against her own. He tastes like mint and faintly ofcoffee, and she never wants this to stop.
“Feels good to break the rules, huh princess?” He hums againsther lips, nipping at her chin before pressing his entire face against her neck. The way he drags his nose up the column of her throat shouldn’t be sexy, but itis, and Lydia can’t stop herself from throwing her head back and twisting herfingers in his hair.
“Just shut up,” she sighs, lashes fluttering when his warmbreath washes over her ear.
“I dunno,” he murmurs, tongue dipping into her ear. “Ithink you might be into it.” Lydia grins around her next moan, fingers tighteningin his hair when he bites down just hard enough where her shoulder meets herneck.
not sure how I feel about this one so I’m just going to put this out here
29. shippyau where one doesn’t know how to kiss & the other teaches them step by step & it turns into this hot makeout session & ‘wow i did not know you could do that’
“I need help.”
Lydia frowns. Derek Hale is standing on her front porch. Yes, that Derek Hale, captain of thebasketball team, Homecoming King (to her queen), and arguably one of the bestlooking guys at Beacon Hills High, is asking her for help.
“Okay…” she replies, enjoying the way he fidgets in front of her. Hisears are growing steadily redder, and his eyes are locked somewhere around herankles.
“Youneedtoteachmehowtokiss.”
Lydia blinks. Did he just..? Judging by the way his entire face isslowly turning pink, he definitelydid.
“I’m sorry?” She asks anyways, leaning her shoulder against the doorframe. Derek sighs and pushes a hand through his hair, leaving it tousled in anunfairly attractive way.
“You heard me,” he mumbles at the ground. It’s Lydia’s turn to sigh, butshe steps forward and grabs Derek’s wrist instead, pulling him into the house.
“I just don’t understand,” she explains as she leads him into the livingroom. “What about Paige?” Gently, she pushes Derek down onto the couch, dropping into the seat beside him.
“We didn’t…” Derek blushes impossibly brighter, eyes trained on hisfingers twisting in his lap. “It wasn’t like a real kiss.” Lydia wants to pinch his cheeks and coo at him, butmanages to refrain. Instead she focuses on what Derek is asking from her. Sheconsiders him her friend, they run in the same circles and they’ve workedtogether on a couple of projects in the classes they share. Lydia likes Derek. For all the ways he fillsthe stereotypical jock role, he’s equally as smart and honest and kind. It’sactually beyond surprising that he hasn’t ever been kissed. Or “really” kissed.“You know what, just forget it, I’m just-” Lydia flings her arm out to keep himfrom standing, knocking him back onto the couch.
“Oh no, you’re not backing out now Hale,” she snaps, using his thigh asleverage to push herself up off the couch. “Don’t move. If we’re going to dothis, we’re going to do it right.” She marches into the kitchen, returningmoments later with two bottles of water, a tube of chap stick, and a tin ofmints. After setting her supplies on the coffee table, she flops back down onthe couch beside tall, dark and embarrassed. “Drink some of this,” she orders, handing him one of the water bottles. He takes it from her and twists off thecap, quirking a curious eyebrow at her before taking a sip. “It’s important tobe hydrated,” she explains. Derek’s throat bobs as he drinks and Lydia can’tlook away from it, mouth watering. She manages to shake herself out of it aftera few seconds, taking a long swig from her own bottle of water. “Okay,” sheputs the bottle back on the table and picks up the mints. “Fresh breath isalways a plus.” She pops open the top and offers it to Derek. “It’s not anecessity, but everything’s generally better if your mouth doesn’t taste likeass.” Derek actually laughs at that, his eyes brightening and posture relaxingjust slightly as he takes a mint. Lydia smiles back and does the same, tossingthe mints back down on the table. “Final step is chap stick. Chapped lipsaren’t fun for either party.” Uncapping the Chap Stick she swipes a layer onher lips before holding it out to Derek.
“Are you sure that’s sanitary?” He inquires, thick eyebrows furrowingwith concern. Lydia rolls her eyes.
“If you’re worried about sharing Chap Stick, are you sure you’re readyfor what comes next? I’m not going to like draw you a diagram or anything.”Derek scowls and swipes the tube from her fingers hastily dragging it acrosshis lips. It leaves them shiny and pink, and Lydia has absolutely zeroreservations about getting to kiss them. “Alright so,” she pushes up onto herknees, turning on the couch until she’s facing him as best she can. “It’salways a good idea to ask if it’s okay the first time. It won’t be any good ifthe other person doesn’t want it.” Derek nods solemnly, big green eyesflickering between her own eyes and her lips.
“Can I kiss you?” He asks shyly, pink tongue darting out to wet hislips. Lydia’s stomach swoops, but she nods. This isn’t real. He just wants her to show him how, that’s all.
They lean towards each other slowly, Lydia cupping his cheek to guidehim. Their lips slide against each other when they meet, everything slow andsmooth and cherry flavored. Lydia’s hand slides down his neck as she pullsback, heat and electricity fizzing in the pit of her stomach when Derek’s pupilblown eyes meet hers.
“That - that was good,” she manages to choke out. “Just um, here…” Inlieu of explaining she simply crawls into his lap, straddling his thighs andgripping his broad (and incredibly muscular, oh god) shoulders. “This is abetter angle.” She says, but even to her own ears it sounds like an excuse.Derek’s lips curl into a smirk, one of his hands settling big and warm on herwaist.
“What’s next Ms. Martin?” He asks, looking up at her through his lashesoh so innocently. Lydia fights off a full body shudder, settling for swallowinghard and trying not to think aboutrole playing with Derek Hale. She clears her throat.
“Now we’re going to try it again. This time for a little bit longer, okay?” Derek’s leaning towards her before she’s even finished speaking, lipsalmost unbearably gentle as they press against hers. Lydia tilts her head, nosesliding against his as she deepens the kiss and sucks softly on his bottom lip.Derek moans quietly and Lydia smiles against his mouth, breaking the kiss.“It’s good right?” She murmurs, nipping at his lip. “It’s always a good idea todo a little of that,” she pauses to suck on his top lip this time, onlystopping when his hand on her waist tightens. “Before you start playing tonsil hockey.”
“Romantic,” Derek huffs, but he’s pulling her back into him before shecan respond. He bites her bottom lip, and she arches towards him instinctively, the soothing swipe of his tongue pulling a moan from deep within her chest.“Was that okay?” His lips brush hers when he speaks, sending little tinglesacross her skin. Lydia nods.
“Yeah,” her voices scratches against her throat, leaving her soundingwrecked already. “Yeah Derek…” She hums when he slides his hand up her back tofist in her hair. “You’re doing really well.” Derek’s lips are already partedwhen they meet this time. His mouth tastes like mint and faintly of coffee, andhis tongue is cool against her own. He wraps an arm around her waist and dragsher down more firmly into his lap and flush against his chest, tongue flickingup to trace along the inside of her upper lip.
Lydia loses it then, abandoning the lesson altogether in favor of justexperiencing Derek. Using her teethelicits little moans from his lips, and rolling her tongue against his in timewith her hips (yes, they’ve apparently progressed to dry humping now. Shedoesn’t even care) draws out low whimpers as he clutches at her back. Shewhines when he breaks the kiss, only to have him nip at her jaw, then lick along line up her throat. “Derek.” She sighs, gripping his hair and tilting herhead back just to give him access. “I really don’t think you needed lessons.”He grins against her throat, pressing his teeth against the tendon there.
“Maybe I should put that on a business card,” he murmurs, voicevibrating against her skin. His tongue dips briefly into her ear, making hersquirm and then groan when he sucks the lobe between his lips. “Lydia Martinapproved.” He kisses her mouth again before she can say anything, lips meetingand parting with wet, smacking sounds and hitched breaths filling the airaround them. Lydia shove one hand up under his shirt, groaning at the twitchingabdominal muscles beneath her fingers.
“I might have a few more things I can teach you,” she whispers againsthis lips, pinching one of his nipples between her fingers. Derek’s hips buck upbeneath her, and now all she can think about is him filling her up, watchinghis face as he comes for the first time. When she looks up, he’s grinning, butthere’s a softness to his eyes that makes her heart melt.
“What are you getting out of this?” He teases, even though it’s obvioushe’s worried about her answer.
“Hmmmm,” she hums, pressing open mouth kisses along his prickly jaw.“Maybe I just kind of like being the one to teach you things.” She finisheslightly, tracing her tongue along the shell of his ear. “And you’re also reallyhot… in case you didn’t know.” Derek huffs but tightens his arms around her, tucking his face into her neck. She can feel him smiling, his cheeks burninghot.
“I think something can be arranged.” He mumbles, lips dragging acrossher skin with every word. Lydia grins and rolls her hips against his. Oh yeah. There’s a whole lot of things they need to get to arranging.

129. you were drunk and proposed to me but i’m not sure how to bring it up now you’re sober bc i totally would have said yes au
Agreeing to dog sit for Scott and Kira while they went on theirhoneymoon was the easiest decision Lydia had ever made. The couple’s corgi andblack lab are both extremely well trained, andthey’re always good for cuddling on the couch. Plus, Lydia relishes anyopportunity to have some time away from the apartment she’s currently sharingwith Stiles and Danny. As much as she loves them both, it’s a little chaotic. And by it, she means Stiles. Regardless, hanging out for a couple of weeks inScott and Kira’s cute little house sounded like an awesome opportunity.
What she didn’t count on was having to share.
Because apparently while Kirahad asked Lydia, Scott had also asked someone.
And neglected (purposefully, Lydia thinks) to tell her about it.
Until she’d pulled up in front of the McCall house the morning after thewedding to find Derek Hale’s new truck parked in the driveway.
Which is why she’s currently glaring at him over the kitchen counter, nursing a cup of coffee and trying to ignore the pounding of her head andchurning of her stomach. (What? She’s twenty five now, her stamina when itcomes to drinking isn’t what it used to be. Also, as a bridesmaid, she took herduty to be the life of the party very seriously. Probably too seriously, ifshe’s being honest). Derek ignores her, dexterous fingers methodically pullingapart the blueberry muffin sitting neatly on a little plate in front of him,the newspaper held up in front of his face.
“You know there’s this newfangled gadget called a smartphone that youcan instantly get your news on,” she drawls sarcastically, feeling smugwhen he flicks the paper irritably. Bella, the corgi, paws gently at her leg,and Lydia immediately pets her. “I can do this by myself you know.”She adds, rolling her eyes when Derek sighs dramatically.
“Scott asked me to stay here. I’m not leaving. But you are morethan welcome to see yourself out.” Derek says, nose in the air and allhaughty. Lydia hates it. She hates his stupid nose and his dumb beard and hisridiculous eyes.
“Well Kira asked me and I’m not leaving either,” she sniffs, taking a long sip of coffee. Her stomach instantly starts to churn and shegroans, leaning over and resting her head against the cool marble counter.“I’m never drinking fireball again.” She’s surprised when gentlefingers curl around her wrist and she forces one eye open. It’s still amazingto her, the way werewolves work. The veins on the underside of Derek’s armbegin to turn black as the pain and discomfort is leached from her body. Thewhole pain taking thing was something she had yet to figure out yet. Gettingwerewolves drunk however… “Did you even drink last night?” Lydiaasks, turning her face so she can see him. Derek shakes his head and smirks ather, fingers starting to rub soothing circles on the underside of her wrist.
“Someone had to be responsible for all you idiots,” heexplains, sounding suspiciously fond. “Who do you think drove you and yourdrunk ass roommates home last night?”
She smiles faintly in response, twisting her hand until she canintertwine their fingers. It’s getting close to ten years of the pack knowingeach other, and Lydia has never loved any people as much as she loves thisgroup of dumb asses.
“Thanks Der,” she mumbles, squeezing his fingers. “Pleasedon’t make me leave, I need a break from Stiles.” Derek doesn’t pull hishand away, just makes a sound that might have even been a laugh. Lydia likes Derek. Not like that, although she certainlywouldn’t say no, but he’s just easy for her to be around. He gets her, they geteach other. And he also does things like scoop her up in his arms and tuck herinto Scott and Kira’s bed because she’s hung over and short on sleep. Yeah. She likes Derek.
Things go pretty smoothly once Lydia wakes up hangover free a few hourslater. They take the dogs out for a jog around the block (Lydia absolutely doesnot state at the way Derek’s butt jiggles in his basketball shorts), then eat aquick lunch together. Lydia lays out in the backyard in her swimsuit, reading ajournal for work on her tablet. She’s surprised when Derek comes out and laysnext to her on the blanket, the dogs sniffing around in the yard. It’scomfortable to be honest, just beingwith Derek, and if she concentrates she doesn’t even notice that he’s notwearing a shirt.
After a couple of hours she goes in and takes a shower, returning downstairsin pajama shorts and wet hair half an hour later. Derek’s already busy at thestove, cooking something that smells like heaven. She just stares at him for aminute, the inky swirl of his tattoo, the little dimples at the base of hisspine, the flex of his shoulders as he stirs. It’s not that she’s never seen Derekshirtless before, because she has. The dude is like allergic to clothing orsomething, and it only got worse after he achieved full shift. But there’ssomething private and warm about what she’s seeing now, and when he turns andshoots her a half grin over his shoulder, her knees go a little bit weak.
She composes herself quickly though and joins him in the kitchen, mixingup a salad to go along with the chicken marsala Derek whipped up out ofnowhere. They eat side by side at the kitchen counter, arms brushing every nowand again as they chat about the pack and work and the dogs. Lydia washes thedishes when they finish, watching Derek play with the dogs in the backyardthrough the window over the sink. When he comes back inside they sit onopposite ends of the couch with the dogs between them, and watch four episodesof Daredevil in a row. Derek presses a kiss to her hair when he goes to bed,and it makes Lydia’s heart ache in the best way.
Their shared routine continues in about the same way for the next fewdays, only changing due to Lydia’s work schedule and Derek getting calls fromthe sheriff to consult on cases. The whole thing is terribly domestic, andterrifyingly enough, Lydia finds herself enjoying it. Maybe a little too much.
When she gets home from work on Friday night, Derek’s already in thekitchen, chopping away at some vegetables.
“Hey ba- um Lyds,” he grins at her over his shoulder (his verynaked shoulder, of course). “How do you feel about sausage andpeppers?”
“Mmmm sounds good,” she hums, letting her fingers trace acrosshis back as she passes behind him. “Need me to do anything?” She asksas she stops in front of the sink, squirting dish soap into her hands andscrubbing them under the warm water.
“Yeah, you wanna finish cutting up these peppers for me? I’ll getstarted on cooking the sausage.”
Lydia hums in agreement, staring out at Bella and Cap tussling in thegrass. Derek’s arm snakes around her, fingers curling around the handle of thefrying pan sitting in the drying rack next to the sink. She leans back into theheat of his body with a soft sigh, tilting her head back on instinct. It justfeels natural when Derek’s other arm wraps around her waist, his lips brushingagainst hers gently.
Lydia chases after his lips, twisting in his arms until her chest ispressed against his, her fingers pushing through his hair. Derek moans quietlyagainst her mouth, his teeth nipping at her bottom lip. Lydia’s whole bodysways closer, but her eyes flash open and she freezes.
Derek’s opalescent eyes are wide and staring back at her.
Fuck.
“Oh my god,” Lydia gasps, her hands patting awkwardly atDerek’s bare chest. “Oh my god.” Derek steps back from her, and shecan see the hurt he’s trying to hide behind his stoic expression.“No,” she growls, jabbing a finger in his direction. “You don’tget to go all man pain on me.” Throwing open the fridge she pulls out abottle of wine and a little bottle of the potion she and Stiles discovered madeit possible for werewolves to get drunk. “Me and you are gonna have aglass of wine and discuss this like adults.” Derek’s eying her warily likehe’s considering just shifting into a full wolf and taking off. He follows herout to the living room anyway, accepting the shot glass of Wolf’s Brew and avery full glass of wine. Lydia sits primly beside him on the couch, caughtbetween wishing she was still kissing him and wishing she was already drunk.
Three hours later, and they’re both sprawled across the living roomfloor. Lydia’s skirt is flung over the back of the recliner, her blouse balledup beneath her head.
“It’s fucking hawt,” Derek whines, shimmying out of his shortsand throwing them halfheartedly towards the couch. Lydia twists her headtowards him, frowning as his face swims.
“No yer hot,” she mumbles, flopping her hand out until itconnects with warm skin. She hums happily, skimming her fingers across his abs, tweaking at one of his nipples when she finds one. Derek lets out a low moan, and it makes excitement thrum low in her belly.
“Lyds, Lyds, Lyd-e-uh,” Derek mumbles, rolling towards her andpropping himself up on his elbow. “Me and you like…” He trails off, reaching out a finger and tracing it down her throat, across her collarbone andalong the curve of her breast. Lydia licks her lips, her body aching for him, needing him. She reaches up and curls her hand about the back of his headpulling him into a sloppy kiss. Their teeth clash and their tongues twist andDerek’s body is pressing against her all hot and hard and strong. He pulls back to soon, hovering over her, smirking when shewhines and arches towards her. “We should jus’ get married Lyds,” hesuggests, grinning excitedly down at her. “Me n you are like…” Hesighs and buries his face in her neck, sucking on the sensitive skin. “Yerso fucking perfect Lyds.”
He rolls off her suddenly, and when Lydia finally manages to focus in onhis face, he’s fast asleep on the floor. She reaches out, tracing a finger downthe angle of his nose, over his kiss red lips. Even drunk and snoring he’sgorgeous, and through the haze that seems to be overtaking her, Lydia vaguelyregisters the way her heart squeezes in her chest.
She wakes up the next morning tucked neatly into Scott and Kira’s bed, abottle of blue Gatorade and three ibuprofen sitting on the bedside table.Groaning, she grabs the Gatorade, struggling for a few moments to get the capoff. She swallows down the ibuprofen, wincing as memories from last night startflooding back. Derek’s arms around her waist, the taste of his tongue, the wayhis hair felt between her fingers. It feelslike a punch to the gut, the realization that she wants him, that she wishes hewas lying there beside her.
She needs to see him.
On shaky legs she makes her way downstairs, frowning at the yappingBella bouncing around her feet. The house is empty. The wine glasses from lastnight are drying next to the sink, the empty bottles are in the recycling bin, andeverything is as neat as it was when Lydia first stepped into the house a weekago. But Derek is gone.
She finds a notes on the end of the counter, written is Derek’s almostflowery scroll.
Went back to myplace for a few days. Need to check on Liam. Call me if you need something. -D
Lydia groans and flops across the counter, crumpling the note in herhand. Of course Derek ran away. After he kissed her and told her they wereperfect together and… And… Proposed to her. Fuck. She drags herself back upthe stairs, collapsing back onto the bed and not caring when Bella and Cap jumpup with her. Maybe this would all make sense after she sleeps it off.
It doesn’t.
It really, really doesn’t.
She mopes for the entire weekend, too busy thinking about Derek and hiseyes and his beard and how much she kind of wants to try things out with him. She’s totally down to marry him right now. Derek would make a good husband. He’s smart and gorgeous and dryly funny. He can cook for her and he’sindependently wealthy and sometimes he looks at her with these soft eyes andshe feels like the prettiest girl in the world.
She misses him.
And she also hasn’t been eating anything other than Doritos and icecream.
It’s pathetic enough that Stiles shows up around midweek, bearing giftsof amazing smelling Chinese food.
“You are such a hot mess dude,” he laughs at her, pulling thelittle red and white boxes out of the brown paper bag and setting them on thecoffee table. Lydia rolls her eyes and slides down the couch to sit crosslegged on the floor.
“I don’t wanna talk about it.” She grumbles, spearing a pieceof sweet and sour chicken with a chopstick and plopping it in her mouth. Stilesjust smirks at her, looking all sophisticated actually using chopsticks the rightway as he eats his Beef Lo Mein. Glaring, she picks up the other chopstick andcorrectly positions them in her hand, eating her chicken like a civilizedperson.
“You’re going to tell me you know,” he says after a moment.“Because I know for a fact that Isaac is bringing Derek pizza and havingthis same conversation.”
“What does Derek have to do with anything?” Lydia asks, toofast, she realizes when Stiles grins triumphantly. Whatever. He doesn’t knowanything.
“What happened? You two get drunk and make out?”
“We were sober when we made out the first time thanks,” Lydiasnaps, stuffing her mouth full of rice before she can say anything else. Stilesjust smirks, and it’s absolutely infuriating. “I hate you.” Shegrumbles when she swallows, pointing a chop stick at him. “So fuckingmuch.”
“So tell me about this kiss. Is he a good kisser? He looks like he’d bea good kisser.” Stiles muses, stupid lips twitching as a pops another piece of beefsmugly into his mouth. Lydia is well aware that he’s teasing her like ajackass, and she wonders briefly why she’s even friends with him.
“Of course he’s a good kisser asshole,” she answers, poking absently ather carton of food. “I wouldn’t be in this state if he wasn’t.” Sighing, sheleans back against the couch, huffing when Bella tries to lick her face. “Hefucking said we should get married Stiles!” She doesn’t dare look at him, content to stare up at the ceiling fan turning lazily above her. Stiles isuncharacteristically quiet for a few moments, and she realizes too late thathe’s texting someone. “What are you doing?” She snaps, lifting her head toglare at him.
“Isaac and Derek are on their way over,” Stiles responds calmly, as ifthat is not the single most distressing statement she’s ever heard. “Then meand Scarf Boy are getting out of here so you two can kiss and make up.”
Lydia frowns. It’s confusing, because she wants to see Derek, she canalready feel excitement starting to thrum through her veins. But at the sametime, she doesn’t want him to be forced on her. He’s impossible to talk to whenhe’s being stubborn, and she wouldn’t be surprised if he went all stone facedand glared at her the entire time. She could think of a few things more funthan glaring. Like kissing. And biting. And getting naked. She lifts anotherpiece of chicken to her mouth, chewing slowly while watching Stiles smirk athis phone.
“What are you doing?” She asks suspiciously, eyes narrowing when heactually snorts. “Stiles.”
“Nothing, nothing,” he shakes his head and grins at her. “I’m just gladthat I picked your name out of the hat instead of old Sour Wolf’s. Isaac hateshis life right now.”
“Well that’s what he gets for meddling,” Lydia sniffs, suddenly toonervous to eat anything else. Derek is on his way here. And they are going tohave to actually talk about things. Like they were going to last Friday nightbefore they drank two bottles of wine and ended up in their underwear on theliving room floor.
“We didn’t know what happened, we just knew you two were acting funny. It’s not meddling, it’s concern.” Stiles replies as if he rehearsed the answer.Lydia doesn't’ even have a chance to reply before there’s headlights shiningthrough the windows, followed by the sound of slamming doors. “That’s my cue.”Stiles chirps, jumping up and quickly throwing their half-eaten food back intothe bag. “I’ll leave this stuff for you in the fridge!” He calls over hisshoulder, completely abandoning Lydia alone in the living room.
She hears the front door open, and the muffled sound of voices followedby the unmistakable sound of Stiles’ giggling. It seems like forever before thedoor clicks shut, and soft footsteps make their way towards her. She looks upwhen they stop, letting her eyes travel slowly up long sweatpants clad legs toa slightly stained and rumpled t-shirt then on to a couple days’ worth of beardand eyes with dark circles beneath them. It looks like Derek is in about thesame shape she is.
“Come here,” Lydia demands softly, patting the spot on the floor besideher. Derek’s eyes dart between the floor and her face warily for a few secondsbefore he moves almost mechanically forward, dropping gracefully beside her. Shewaits until he pulls his knees up to his chest to lean against him, her headresting on his shoulder. “I missed you,” she whispers, swallowing down the lumpin her throat.
“You didn’t call,” Derek mumbles with a raspy, hurt filled voice.
“I didn’t think you wanted me to Der.” She lifts her head and pushesherself up on to her knees, shuffling around until she faces him. “Hey look atme.” She curls her fingers under his chin, nudging him until he turns his faceup towards her. Derek looks vulnerable and broken, mouth set in a hard line, eyes full of pain. “Derek.” His name rolls easily off her tongue like she wasborn to say it, and he doesn’t shake her off when she places a hand on eachcheek. “I think I’m falling in love with you, you know.” She admits quietly, lips quirking at the light that flares in Derek’s eyes. “And I think we shouldgive it a try.”
Derek’s face breaks into the most beautiful smile she’s ever seen, shyand hopeful and adoring. He drops his knees and pulls her easily into his lap, wrapping his arms around her and holding her tightly against his chest. Lydiacan feel his heart racing beneath her, and she smiles into his neck at thethought. “Next time you propose to me though, I want a ring.” She teases, pulling back just enough to watch a flush spread across his cheeks. Derekshakes his head before pressing his lips to hers, and it’s even better than sheremembered. Their bodies fit together like they were made for each other, softagainst hard, curves against edges. Derek kisses like he needs it, like hecan’t live without the taste of her lips. Lydia can relate to the feeling.
“Next time I propose,” Derek huffs in between sucking bruising kissesagainst her neck, “You’re going to say yes.”
This one was begging to be canon compliant. Hope you like it Christine!
176. “You came back.”
Lydia’s never told anyone about the connections. It’s hardto explain at best, and morbid at the worst, and sometimes she selfishly wantsto have something that’s hers alone. There’s almost fifty tiny strands now, invisible to the naked eye where theyradiate out from her belly button. Lydia can feel them though, imagines them tobe a different color for each person they lead to. She doesn’t particularlycare about all of them, but there’s a select few that she monitors carefully.
Allison’s of course the most important. When she focuses onthat connection she can still hear the warm ring of Allison’s laughter, cansmell the perfume she used to wear, can feel the phantom curl of her bestfriends fingers through hers. Aiden’s is one she tends to avoid, too many couldhave beens and not enough happiness to ever make her feel good after. Shechecks on Boyd’s often. He wasn’t someone she knew well, but she can stillremember the overwhelming cloud of death that permeated Derek’s loft. Boyd’sconnection is calming and cool. Lydia likes to focus on him when she’s feelingstressed, or when it all seems like too much to handle. Scott’s connection isprobably the strongest. She’s hypothesized that that’s due to him still beingalive as well as him being her alpha. There’s strength there and love, andwhenever Lydia focuses on it she sometimes thinks she can feel Scott pullingback. He’s never said anything about it though, so she keeps her silence.
The last connection she monitors belongs to Derek Hale.Embarrassingly enough, his might be the one she checks the most. He never camehome from Mexico, and sometimes she feels the need to just check and make surehe’s alive. His connection thrums with muted power and is heavy with guilt. Shemisses him sometimes and she’s not sure why. They were never all that close, but towards the end there, she felt like he understood her. Sometimes shewishes they were friends.
It’s been three years since she saw Derek when theconnection starts to vibrate slightly. She’s home for summer break, and shesuddenly regrets not telling anyone about these connections. She wants toconfide in Scott, to research with Stiles late into the night, to brainstormwith Malia and Kira. Instead she locks herself in her childhood bedroom withall the historical records the pack has. The feeling in the pit of her stomachcontinues to grow stronger, and she realizes that the guilt she always associatedwith Derek is being overridden with excitement.
After a few days she relocates to Derek’s loft. The pack haskept up with it over the years, after Derek had given them permission to use it(with strict instructions not to throw any more raves in his building). Shespreads the books and papers out across the giant bed still pushed up againstthe windows, jotting down notes in her own coded shorthand. She feels strungout, living on coffee and fruit snacks and the building excitement andapprehension shooting through her connection to Derek.
On the third day she forces herself up off the bed, lettingthe water run in Derek’s shower (that she herself had cleaned a time or too),watching it turn from a rusty brown to clear. Stripping, she steps under the hotspray, ignoring the fact that there’s no soap or shampoo or conditioner insight. She can barely focus on anything other than the intensity of Derek’sconnection. Drying herself off with an only slightly musty towel of Derek’s,she dresses in a pair of sweats and a sweater she found in his abandoneddresser. The clothes still smell a bit like him, the clean scent of fresh airand just the smallest hint of old spice. She tries not think about how much shelikes it, how good it feels to imagine Derek giving her his clothes on purpose, how nice it would be to have strong, capable arms wrapped around her, and anintelligent mind helping her to figure this out.
Instead she crawls back onto the bed, twisting her damp hairinto a bun on top of her head. She can’t find anything, anywhere about bansheesmaintaining connections with the people whose deaths she’s predicted. It’spossible that her own desire to keep it a secret could have been experienced byothers as well. Regardless, it’s frustrating, and her concentration is shotthrough. She’s sitting cross legged on the bed, staring off into space andchewing absently on her ice coffee straw when the door slides open.
She’s expecting it to be Scott, finally tired of her lametext messages saying that she’s fine and no one needs to worry. So she doesn’tlook over, distracted by her connection with Derek buzzing almostviolently. But Scott would already be onthe bed with her right now, and he definitely would not be clearing his throatto get her attention. She forces her gaze towards the doorway, and when itfalls on the man standing there, it’s like the tension that’s been building fordays breaks.
Her body goes limp and she slumps back against the pillows, eyes fluttering.
When she comes to there’s warm hands patting her face, sliding down her neck to check for a pulse.
“Come on Lydia,” Derek almost begs, and thedesperation in his voice makes her eyes blink open.
“You came back,” she whispers, small smile curlingher lips as she stares into his hypnotic eyes. There’s no real reason for herto wrap her arm around his shoulders and pull him into a hug, but she does itanyways, inexplicably pleased to have solid (deliciously solid) proof that he’sstill alive. Derek hugs her back, strong arms snaking around her waist andpulling her up off the bed and against his chest. He lets her go way too soon, but Lydia doesn’t miss the way his eyes linger on his sweats rolled at herwaist and the way his sweater is hanging completely off one shoulder.
“What’s going on Lydia?” He asks, voice gentle andsoothing and she kind of wants to drown in the way he says her name. “Whyare you holed up here?” He picks up one of the many opened books spreadaround them, brows furrowing as he reads. “I thought you guys figured outyour banshee powers?”
Lydia shrugs, rubbing absently at her stomach, methodicallychecking all of her connections. Derek’s has returned to normal, except nowthere’s a warm contentment humming there as well. “I… I may not havetold everyone everything…” She admits finally, unable to stop herselffrom tracing a finger across the knuckles of Derek’s hand, resting between themon the bed. “I can feel everyone. All the people I’ve screamed for.Allison, Aiden, Scott… You.” Derek turns his hand over and slips hisfingers between hers, thumb rubbing is soothing circles across the back of herhand. Lydia abruptly realizes she wants to crawl into his lap, wants to pressher face into the curve of his neck and feel the safety of his arms.
“How long have you been here?” He asks gently, flicking through her notes with his free hand. “Why are you wearing myclothes?”
“Three days… I think?” She shrugs and picks atthe too long sleeve of the sweater she’s wearing, bunching the material in herfist. “And I didn’t bring any extra clothes with me.” Derek humslowly, and when Lydia glances up at him, there’s an emotion she can’t placeflickering in his eyes. “Does Scott know you’re here?” She asks todistract herself, squeezing his hand gently and yawning.
“Yeah,” Derek grunts, releasing her hand only topull her towards him until her head rests on his shoulder. “Have you beensleeping? You can’t do this to yourself Lydia.” She rolls her eyes hard atthat, but doesn’t move away from him. It feels good, natural even, to relaxagainst him, to let Derek support her weight. One of his big hands is slowlystroking up and down her back, squeezing softly at the base of her neck everyso often.
“Where’s Braeden?” She asks, suddenly rememberingthat when Derek left town he had been in a pretty serious relationship. As muchas she respects Braeden, she still couldn’t forget the bruises the mercenaryhad left on her and Allison’s arms, how she miraculously survived an attack bythe alpha of alphas, and the almost scoffing way she seemed to regard the groupof teenagers. She knows it’s irrational, that she shouldn’t be jealous, because that’s what she is, shegets that, but it’s still there, simmering.
Derek shrugs, his shoulder jumping beneath her cheek.“I think she’s down in South America now, she picked up a job hunting downa werejaguar down there. Things just kind of… I just wanted to come home Iguess.” Lydia starts to smile, wishing there was away she could stop thehope curling around her heart. Since when did she want this? Maybe seeing himafter all these years of feeling his presence every day just broke her. She turns her head, her nosebrushing against his neck, and she wants to bite it, wants to lick a line uphis throat and suck on his collarbones.
Fuck.
She forces her eyes closed, knowing he’ll be able to tellshe wants him within seconds, if he hasn’t figured it out already.
“So is she going come back here to meet back up withyou?” Her lips brush against his skin as she speaks, and Derek shuddersbeneath her. Her eyes open to narrow slits, watching his Adam’s apple bob as heswallows.
“No,” his voice is deeper than it was before, andit seems to send little tremors right to her core. “We uh, we aren’ttogether anymore.” Lydia hums quietly against his neck, smirking when hisfingers spasm against her back. On a hunch she focuses on her connection tohim, biting back a gasp at the white hot desire that’s flowing between them.
“I could feel it when you decided to come home youknow, that’s why I’m here.” She sighs and drags her nose across histhroat. Derek’s breath hitches and his hand stops stroking, curling around theback of her neck, holding her to him. “You… It was like, Ican’t…” She gestures at her stomach, where the strands all link.“It was very intense, but it makes sense now. You were coming home.”She shifts her body towards him, sliding one hand up his chest and across hisshoulder to slide into his thick hair. “I don’t know why,” shecontinues, eyes feeling heavy as she presses a soft kiss to his neck. “ButI missed you Derek,” she whispers directly into his ear, heat poolingbetween her thighs when he growls deep in his chest.
“God Lydia,” he murmurs, dragging her into his lapand kissing her. His lips are gentle and unsure against hers, fingers pressingagainst her jaw. Lydia tilts her head and deepens the kiss, flicking her tongueagainst his lips until he parts them with a moan.
“I like you wearing my clothes,” Derek murmurs, one hand sliding up beneath her shirt, warm and soft and pressing her insistentlycloser. His other hand fists in her hair, tugging until she tilts her head backand lets him bite and suck at her throat.
“Better stick around then,” she replies, breathless, grinding her hips down against his when he bites at her collarbone.
“Guess so,” he hums and she can feel him smirkagainst her skin. When he finally meets her gaze he’s smiling, this soft, private thing that makes her heart melt. “Maybe if you clean up your messwe can put on fresh sheets and get to be sticking around?” Lydia rolls hereyes but kisses him again anyways, moaning when two hot hands grip at herwaist, burning against her skin.
(ps - all relationships should be based on slushies tbh)
122. “You’re out here every damn day in 90 degree weather working on your shitty car when I walk past on my commute and I NEVER EVER see you drinking water which is SO BAD FOR YOU by the way so I’ve started bringing you slushies” AU
Lydia likes her routines. She wakes up every morning a six am, takes ashower, gets dressed, blow dries her hair and puts on her makeup. Allison eatsbreakfast with her, both of them sitting in companionable silence, Lydiareading the paper and Allison staring blearily at the back of a cereal box. Atexactly 7:15 Lydia grabs her purse and her work bag and gets into her shiny whiteBMW. Her drive to work takes exactly one hour, which includes a stop at thelocal coffee shop for a fresh latte. She gets to work by 8:30, works in the labuntil 12:30 when she takes lunch. After her break she works straight throughuntil six (sometimes staying later if the project requires it) and then driveshome.
Every night for the past month, the guy that lives on the end of herstreet is out working on his junky looking car. While she’ll admit that he’shot like burning, (bulging biceps and broad shoulders and a jawline that couldcut glass) he’s obviously not that smart. He’s always sweaty and baking in thehot sun without a water bottle in sight. Lydia makes a point to check now whenshe drives by, just to see if he suddenly smartened up and started drinkingwater.
He doesn’t.
Which is why the next time Lydia steps out of her building to walk toher car, and the temperature has to be close to a hundred degrees, she messeswith her routine. She just doesn’t want her neighbor to like die of sunpoisoning or something. Buying him a slushy at the Cumberland Farms down thestreet doesn’t have anything to do with how attracted to him she is. Or how shehas a thing for blue collar men with calloused hands and grease on their facesand arms strong enough to fuck her up against a wall. Nope. Nothing to do withthat.
She hasn’t bought a slushy since college, when she and Allison used totake them to the beach and mix in vodka. Standing in front of the machine makesher realize she has no idea what flavor her neighbor would even want. In theend she decides to buy two, one blue raspberry and one strawberry. She’ll letSexy Neighbor chose which one he wants, and she can have the other. Feelingslightly ridiculous in her pencil skirt, button down blouse and sensible heelsat the slushy machine, she moves quickly, handing over the two dollars to thecashier and practically running out of there.
Sexy Neighbor’s leaning under the propped open hood of his car when shepulls up and parks on the street. He straightens up at the sound of her doorclosing, and when he turns to look at her, she almost dies. His face should beon the pages of a magazine, all sharp angles and harsh lines. Lydia wants torun her fingertips across her cheekbones and smooth his eyebrows, she wants topress her thumb against his lips.
Straightening her shoulders she marches towards him, heels clickingloudly on the concrete driveway, slushy clenched in each hand. He’s frowning ather by the time she reaches him, glancing between her face and the slushies, confused.
“You need to drink something.” Lydia says in lieu of agreeting, holding the cups towards him. “Pick one.” He hesitates fora moment before choosing the blue one. She can’t help but notice how good hesmells up close, like old spice and laundry detergent and just the faintesthint of sweat. It’s manly. Lydia definitelylikes manly.
“Why?” He asks her, his voice an octave higher than sheexpects from such a big guy. She shrugs and closes her mouth around her ownstraw, sighing when the imitation strawberry flavored ice hits her tongue.
“I never see you drinking any water when I drive by,” she saysfinally, seeing as he seems to be waiting to touch his slushy until sheanswers. “Just thought it was a little hot and you might need a thirstquencher.” Sexy Neighbor’s face softens before her eyes, and if anythinghe looks more beautiful. A bead of sweat rolls down his neck, pooling in thehollow at the base of his throat. Lydia gulps and snaps her eyes back up tohis. Which, now that she’s looking at them, his eyes are like galaxies, ormaybe the Northern Lights, dancing between blue and green and gray and gold.“Well uh, stay cool!” She spins on her heel and struts away from him, fluttering her fingers over her shoulder in a wave.
“Um, I’m Derek.” He mumbles the next day when she hands him ablue slushy, rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck. It’s both adorable anddevastating, the muscles in his arm flexing and bunching in a way that makesLydia’s mouth water.
“Lydia,” she answers, pulling the straw of her own slushy intoher mouth for a distraction. She really did not need to know what Sexy Neighbor- Derek - looks like in a white tank top covered in black grease with dirtsmeared across his cheeks. He even has a greasy red rag hanging out of the backpocket of his jeans, and since when did she find that attractive? Fuck.
“Thanks,” Derek says, lips twitching into the barest hint of asmile.
Lydia Martin does not blush, but she imagines if she were that type, shewould be right now. She needs toleave.
“Anytime, Derek.” She winks at him and strides back to hercar.
It becomes part of her routine after that. Every afternoon on her wayhome from work, she brings Derek a slushy. They sometimes chat a little bit,and on nights when she knows Allison’s not waiting for her, she’ll sometimessit in a lawn chair and watch harass him while he works. He doesn’t talkmuch, but he listens to her complain about work, and sometimes huffs out alaugh when she tells stories about Stiles and Scott and Allison. She learnsthat he has two sisters, that his parents died in a car crash eight years ago,and that he and his dad were supposed to fix up this very car as a projectbefore he passed. (“It’s a fucking 1970 ‘cuda Lydia, stop referring to heras just a car.”)
The most terrifying part is, not only does she want him to do dirty, dirty things to her, she kind of also wants to cook dinner with him every nightand watch the Big Bang theory on the couch with him and maybe meet his sisters. And well… Maybe she shouldn’t be surprised. She either wants casual sex orshe wants to do the whole shebang.
And then one day, he’s not there.
Lydia even peers into the garage, slushies melting in their cups, but Derekdoesn’t seem to be around. It takes her a few minutes to realize that the car(the ‘cuda, whatever) is gone too.
She absolutely does not go home and sulk. With her melted slushies.Definitely not.
The ‘cuda is missing from Derek’s driveway every night for the nextweek. Lydia may or may not be pining a little bit. And she may or may not bedragging her best friend down with her, as best friends tend to do.
Lydia and Allison are working their way through two pints of Ben &Jerry’s in their pajamas when the doorbell rings.
“I’m in my jammies,” Lydia whines, batting her eyelashes at Allison.“You go answer it.” Allison groans but sets her ice cream down on thecoffee table.
“I’m only doing this because you’re pathetic right now,” shereplies, laughing when Lydia pouts and throws a pillow at her. She listens as Allisonwalks out into the front hall and opens the door and says. "Can I help you?“
“Hi um,” Lydia freezes with a spoonful of ice cream halfway toher mouth. She knows that voice.“I was wondering if um, if Lydia was home.”
“Fuck,” she hisses under her breath, scrambling off the couch, socks sliding across the hard wood as she stumbles towards the door. Derek’sleaning against the door frame in a leather jacket, face clean shaven and hairobviously styled. He looks… Heart stoppingly beautiful. And there’s a redslushy in one hand.
“Hey,” his mouth quirks up to one side when his eyes land on Lydia.
“Hey.” She says back, ignoring the fact that she’s wearing oneof Scott’s t-shirts and a tiny pair of sleep shorts and is holding a halfmelted pint of Phish Food. Allison looks back and forth between them and coughsto very obviously hide a laugh.
“I’m just gonna…” She motions vaguely towards the kitchenand starts to slip away, stopping only to pry the carton of ice cream fromLydia’s only slightly sticky fingers.
“I um, was wondering if you wanted to go for a ride?” Derekmotions behind him with a wave of one arm, a slight flush spreading across thetops of his cheeks. Chewing on her lips Lydia steps towards the doorway, takingthe slushy absently as she peers past him into the night.
There’s a car sitting in her driveway.
Scratch that, there’s a gorgeousblack muscle car sitting in the driveway that she vaguely recognizes as Derek’scuda. God. When did she become a car person? “So uh, what do yousay?” He asks, and she realizes that she hasn’t responded to his questionyet.
“Well that depends,” Lydia grins up at him and crosses herarms. Derek grins like he knows what she’s going to say, and she feels herheart squeeze in her chest. “Are we gonna go out to make out point or thedrive in?” His ears burn bright red, but his smile turns almost feral ashe eyes flick up and down her body. Her not at all appropriately dressed body.
“Definitely make out point.”
If that makes Lydia’s stomach flip on itself, nobody needs to know.
But she does want everyone toknow one thing. Making out on the hood of a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda with a sixfeet of tall, dark and handsome… 10/10 would recommend.
Sooooo I rewrote this like three times, because Derek’s really the only one I can see getting hurt in a fight (and not having someone else insist on carrying him), BUT Lydia’s so tiny I don’t even know how to make it work. AND NOW WE HAVE THIS DISASTER. I don’t even know. (thanks for the prompt Anon!)
88. You give me a piggy back ride (or ride home) after I got out of a brutal fight and can barely stand.
(Send me a # and a ship for my Fic Extravaganza)
Lydia is beyond pissed.
Some things in life are sacred.
And by some things, she means her shoes. Particularly, her brand newpair of Jimmy Choo peep toe, platform pumps. She doesn’t give two shits aboutthe harpies they chased through the preserve, doesn’t care that she’s harnessedher powers enough to use her scream as a weapon, and really, really doesn’t care that the entire packare still lying on the ground with their hands over their ears.
Her shoes are ruined.
Well, it’s just one shoe, and the heel’s snapped almost off, and she canprobably get it fixed, but that’s not the point! (And okay, maybe she’sfixating on the shoes because the fucking harpy emergency interrupted her firstgrown-up date in like a month. And yes, maybe her heart had skipped a few beatswhen she saw Derek’s name on her phone, but then he’d only been calling aboutfucking HARPIES and not to say he wanted to date her and she should ditch thedouche bro she was on a date with and now she’s pissed about that too).ANYWAYS, these shoes are fucking expensive!
“Do you guys even understand?! These cost like seven hundred dollars!”She screeches, waving the shoe in Stiles’ (unimpressed) direction, the heeldangling at an odd angle. The heel of the shoe she’s still wearing is sinkinginto the soft dirt beneath her feet, and her nice dress is covered in some kindof weird goo, and her hair is falling out of its neat French twist, and she’sjust had enough.
“Maybe you should buy some more practical shoes,” Derek suggests, crossing his arms and smirking at her. Lydia narrows her eyes. How dare he lookso good while being a smug asshole? He’s covered in blood too. Which, she’spretty sure he can’t do anythingwithout getting covered in blood. Unfortunately for her, he looks damn good nomatter what.
“I had a date tonight with a normal person!” She adds, throwing herhands up into the air. “God forbid I get laid!” Derek looks like he’s going tomake another smart remark, but Scott interrupts.
“Speaking of getting laid,” he winks obnoxiously at Kira, who instantlyturns red. “Can we go now or…?” Lydia scowls. Rude.
“Fine.” She huffs, rolling her eyes when Malia and Stiles high five.“You guys don’t need to rub your sex lives in my face though, thanks.” Scott atleast has the decency to look slightly abashed, but the rest of the pack isalready heading towards the road. Whatever. Lydia doesn’t need no man. She canhave just as much fun all by herself. Well, maybe not as much fun, but there can still be fun.
Sighing, she goes to follow after the pack, and almost falls flat on herface. Because she’s only wearing one shoe. And the other one is broken. Also, she might have had like three glasses of wine on her date (because it wasactually pretty horrible but no one needs to know that) and she might be a little bit tipsy. Just a bit. She’s really not usually this dramatic about her life.
“Come on.” She looks up from staring morosely at her poor, poor shoe tofind Derek’s back in front of her. Or well… he’s crouched on the ground infront of her anyways. When she doesn’t move he glares at her over his shoulder.“Come on Screaming Mimi, I’m trying to give your drunk ass a piggy back ride.”
“I don’t like that nickname,” she sniffs, but climbs awkwardly onanyways, only hitting him in the head with her broken shoe once. Maybe twice. Andokay, climbing on someone’s back in a dress is probably not really the best plan, but at this point she doesn’t really care if anyone sees her ass. She’s wearingher nice silk undies anyways. Someoneshould see them. Plus, Derek’s back is really firm and his hands are warm wherethey’re gripping her legs and she’s 60% sure he sighed a little when shepressed her face to his neck. “How come we don’t call you Glarek?” She wondersafter an hour (or like five minutes) of trekking through the woods. “That’sexcellent nickname potential being wasted.”
“What do you, turn into Stiles when you’re drunk?” Derek huffs, readjusting his grip on her legs and shifting her higher up his back.
“I’m not drunk,” Lydia insists. “If I was drunk I’d probably be tryingto give you a blow job by now.” Derek chokes, and she can feel his neck get hotbeneath her cheek. Score one for Martin.
“Pretty sure you’re drunk Lyds,” he says after a few minutes. “You’renot really being yourself.” Lydia’s not about to deign that with a response. What does he know anyways? He’s been completely oblivious to her attraction tohim for years. And apparently he’sgoing to ignore her obvious come-ons as well. Awesome.
“Is it that hard to believe I want you?”
Okay. So maybe she is a little drunk and vulnerable right now, andadmitting to things she shouldn’t be. But god, she just wants to be happy withsomeone. With Derek. She’s twentythree years old and she hasn’t had a boyfriend, a real boyfriend since Jackson. There’s just something about Derekthat makes her want to hold his hand and snuggle on the couch and maybe havereally hot sex every night. He feels like stability and comfort to her, and sheneeds that. She’s had enough casualsex for the time being.
It takes her a second to realize Derek’s stopped walking. She can’t evenhear the sounds of the rest of the pack anymore, they must be too far away.Derek lowers her gently to the ground before turning to face her.
“Lydia.” She can’t get enough of the way he says her name, how it soundsalmost musical rolling off his tongue. His sea foam eyes are soft as he cupsher cheek with one big hand, and Lydia unabashedly leans into the touch, hereyelashes fluttering. “Is it alright if I kiss you?” She huffs out a laugh butnods, reaching up and fisting the front of his shirt in her hand.
“Of course you can kiss me Hale, hurry up and do it!”
Derek rolls his eyes, but he’s smiling as he ducks his head and presseshis lips to hers. It’s gentle and tender and oh so perfect, just the slightestbrush of their lips. He pulls back and smiles softly at her, the kind of smilethat Lydia thinks she’ll remember for the rest of her life.
“I want you too,” he whispers, pulling her into a hug and kissing thetop of her head. “But you are definitely drunk, so we’re going to wait to havethe conversation ‘till you sober up.”
Rude. He is so rude. They could be making out against a tree right now! Lydia’snever really been into that, but Malia and Stiles kind of make it look likefun. And she wants to climb Derek like a tree, so there has to be some sort ofcorrelation there.
Okay. She’s definitely a little drunk.
She’ll admit that now.
“Fine,” she grumbles against his chest. “Just take me home. To your bed. You’re cuddling me.” Derek actually laughs quietly before lifting her in hisarms, this time in a bridal carry.
“No arguments there,” he agrees as Lydia hooks her arms around his neck.
“You also owe me a new pair of shoes,” she tacks on, staring at her verysad heel, still clenched in her hand.
“I’ll buy you all the shoes, okay?”
Lydia ignores the fact that they’re moving to grab Derek’s chin andangle his face so she can kiss him. It’s sloppy, but promises of shoes deserveall the kisses. The feel of Derek’s smile against her lips isn’t all that badeither.
It might even be worth ruining a pair of Jimmy Choos for.
HA so i don’t even know what this is, starts out as drunken shenanigans, ends in domestic bliss… am I making sense anymore? Probably not. Anyways, here you go Christine!
5. “The skirt is short on purpose.”
Lydia didn’t usually get this drunk. She knew her limits, and shelearned pretty quickly at college that she greatly prefers having her witsabout her to getting blackout drunk. But tonight is different, She’s home forwinter break, she hasn’t seen Stiles in ages, and they’ve got a pack full ofvery sober werewolves they can call to drive them home. Lydia even convincedStiles to go to Sinema instead of Jungle, and she’s so glad they did. Liam’sboyfriend’s been slipping the free shots all night, all the dancers aregorgeous, and the two of them are beyond wasted.
It’s awesome.
Stiles is pressed all up against her back, his bare chest sticky withsweat. There’s another guy dancing against her front, his hands resting on herhips. The bass seems to vibrate through her bones, and she feels light andcarefree and just a little bit dizzy.
“Uh oh…” Stiles’ entire body tenses behind her, his hips abruptly losingrhythm. Lydia pouts and grinds back against him, huffing when he doesn’trespond. She cranes her neck in an attempt to see his face. Instead she canonly focus on thick eyebrows and eyes that seem to swirl between blue and grayand gold.
“Ooooo Derek!” She grabs the lapel of his jacket and reels him in.Because let’s be real, Derek is definitely in her top five hottest guys she’sever seen list. She not about to pass on a chance to dance all up on that. “Yougonna dance with me or what?” Derek’s face swims above her, but it looks likehe’s frowning. Lydia is having exactly none of that. “Come on Hale,” she patshis cheeks. “Show me your pretty smile.”
What she gets instead is a big hand clamped around her wrist and aglare.
“I’m taking you two home,” Derek growls, hand sliding up her arm as hetugs her and Stiles out of the club.
“Is there a threesome on the table or…?” Stiles giggles, trying andfailing to step out from under Derek’s grip on the back of his neck.
“I’m down,” Lydia adds, smiling widely and tripping only slightly asthey step out into the fresh air.
“No sex for either of you,” Derek growls, letting go of Stiles to yankopen the back door of his car. “You’re both inebriated.”
“Nice mom car,” Lydia snorts, leaning her forehead against the coolglass of the front passenger window.
“Look at you guys,” Derek continues as if he didn’t hear her, grabbingher around the waist and lifting her into the backseat like she weighs nothing.“You.” He grabs Stiles and shoves him in after her. “Lost your shirt and arewearing god awful leather pants. And you-” He points at Lydia. “Does that evenqualify as a skirt? I’m pretty sure your ass was hanging out!”
“It’s a nice ass Lyds, don’t worry,” Stiles assures her, his sweaty headdropping onto her shoulder.
“The skirt is short on purpose,” Lydia huffs, blowing a limp curl out ofher face. “Just cause yer a… a prudedoesn’t mean I have to be!”
“Oh my God,” Derek sighs and slams the door. Lydia rolls her head backagainst the seat. Everything spins when she closes her eyes, so she forces themback open, anchoring herself by gripping Stiles’ hand. The car starts to move, and she wonders when Derek got behind the wheel. How did she miss that?
Her stomach churns and her skin feels too hot, so she puts the windowdown and sticks her head out into the breeze. It doesn’t really help, but thewind in her hair is cool and distracting.
“You doing okay Lyds?” It sounds like Derek’s talking to her, but shecan’t really tell. Everything’s too slow then too fasts and the voices speakingto her don’t sound right.
“Mmmhmmm,” she groans, and then somebody swears. She thinks it’s Derekbut it could’ve been Stiles.
The car lurches to a stop, and she feels Stiles’ fingers slippingthrough her grasp, then there’s a slamming door.
“Where’s Sti-uhls?” She mumbles when the car starts moving again, forcing herself to look up at the rearview mirror.
“He’s with Scott.” Derek replies. Lydia giggles. It looks like hiseyebrows are talking to her. “I’m going to bring you back to my place.” Lydiagrins sloppily, and her eyes kind of feel like they’re moving withoutpermission.
“You fin-ly gon’ fuck me Der?” She slurs, another giggle slippingthrough her lips.
“No.” He growls back. “Just put your head back out the window orsomething.” Lydia rolls her eyes, but it makes her head spin and her stomachchurn and then everything kind of goes black.
It takes her a minute to recognize the gray sheet she’s wrapped in andthe giant green t-shirt she’s wearing. But everything smells like Derek, soapand pine and cinnamon, and she’s notabout to analyze why it’s so soothing to her. She’s more interested in why shefeels so good, no headache oroverwhelming urge to race to the bathroom and empty her stomach. It’s then sherealizes there’s a hand holding hers, the veins on the wrist still a faintblack.
Derek’s fast asleep on an easy chair he must’ve pulled over last night. He looks younger like this, skin smooth around his eyes and eyelashes likecharcoal smudges on his cheeks. Lydia has a sudden urge to paint him, to getthe angle of his nose, the curve of his eyebrows, the pink slash of his mouthon paper.
She slips her hand from his before she can do anything drastic, andcrawls out of bed. After finding a new toothbrush under the sink, she brushesher teeth, memories from last night flooding back as she stares at herreflection. The ride home was cringe worthy to say the least. When she returnsto Derek’s bedroom he’s awake and blinking sleepily at her. His eyes are amuted green in the morning light, and Lydia wants to paint them too, eventhough she knows no combination of colors could do the real thing justice.
He just watches as she crawls back into his bed, brushing a lazy handthrough his hair. Lydia wants to repeat the motion with her own fingers, wantsto soothe him with gentle touches, and wants to make him groan with rougherones.
“You took my hangover,” she states once she’s settled, facing him on herside. Derek’s ears turn pink, and it’s so adorable she wants to cry. “I’mpretty sure Scott’s probably letting Stiles suffer right now.” Derek ducks hishead, his fingers toying with the string of his sweats.
“Well you’re not Stiles,” he mumbles, glancing up at her through hislashes. “And I’m not Scott.” Lydia’s face splits into what she imagines is adopey smile as she reaches for his hand.
“Come on and cuddle me you big softy.” She demands. “I brushed my teethand everything.” Derek huffs but complies, flush spreading across his cheeks. She sighs when he tugs her against him, all big and soft and warm. It’s only afew minutes before she’s twisting to face him, wrapping one arm around hisneck. Derek looks confused, like he doesn’t know what she’s trying toaccomplish here. And Lydia… Lydia just wants to kiss him.
OHAI I'M BACK. 103 pls I think you know for what pairing by now (ಠ⌣ಠ)
lilmisslydiamartin also requested this one.
Umm… this was really hard for me to come up with a scenario that even makes the littlest bit of sense, but I think I like the end result :)
103. “I thought you were a ghost for the past 4 months.” AU
There isn’t much that surprises Lydia anymore. Ancient Japanese foxspirits possessing teenage boys? Sure. Her grandmother helping to create a hitlist full of supernatural creatures? Why not? Finding dead bodies every otherday? Absolutely. That still doesn’t mean she isn’t a little bit worried when a low rustling in thecorner of her room brings her back from the edges of sleep. There’s something,or someone in her room right now. Steeling her nerve, she flicks on the light, blinking rapidly as her eyes adjust.
Derek Hale is sitting on the floor of her bedroom.
Except. It can’t be DerekHale. He is dead. She screamed forhim. He never came back from Mexico, and nobody ever talked about what happeneddown there. She had tried to ask Stiles about it once, but he’s gotten allweird and Malia had yelled at her later about not talking to Stiles aboutDerek. So… She squints at him. He looksabout the same as the last time she saw him, beard still perfectly groomed, inky hair artfully tousled, eyes somewhere between gray and green. Basically,he’s just as attractive as he’s always been, except for being, well, dead.
“Derek…” she starts, sitting up and letting the blankets fall to herwaist. “What’s going on?” Derek blinks at her a few times, but Lydia just waits. She never really knew Derek all that well, but she did know he was a man of fewwords.
“I wanted to check on you,” he says finally, his voice raspier than sheremembers. She tilts her head a little, trying to piece together whatever thehell is going on here in her mind.
“Why me?”
Derek rolls his eyes, which rude, and sighs.
“You predicted my death Lydia, that’s a connection that cannot bebroken.”
Great. The only logical conclusion that Lydia can draw from this is thatshe can talk to dead people. Not only can she predict deaths, but apparently she gets to be pals withtheir ghost forms after. Fan-fucking-tastic.
“Have you gone to the others yet?”
Derek drops his gaze from her then, scowling at the dusty space beneathher bed.
“No…” His thick fingers grip at the carpet. “I don’t want to upsetthem.” Lydia nods slightly in agreement. That, she can understand. Their packhas been through enough in the last three years, and she prefers to finish upthe last couple of weeks of senior year without any major drama. And whether heknows it or not, Derek Hale seems to bring the drama with him wherever he goes.
“Okay.” She sighs and lays back down, reaching over to switch off thelight. “I’m going back to sleep now.”
“Just don’t tell them, okay?” Derek whispers in the darkness. He sounds…sad almost.
“Okay.”
He’s gone when she wakes up.
—
Lydia’s convinced herself it was dream. It’s really the only thing thatmakes sense, because she cannot find one ounce of literature anywhere in thepack’s collection of bestiaries that supports ghosts being real.
But Derek shows up again.
This time she’s still awake, lying across her bed and editing Malia’sessay about the causes of World War I. She just glances up to find him there, lounging in the easy chair beside her vanity like he belongs or something.
“Derek.” She greets him without looking up from the papers in front ofher, refusing to show any reaction to his appearance. Apparently he continuesto be slightly creepy, even in death. He doesn’t respond, just picks a book upoff her floor and starts to flip through it. Lydia ignores him for as long asshe possibly can, chancing glances at him every few minutes. She didn’t thinkthat ghosts could actually pick things up, but apparently they can. Not thatshe has any kind of solid facts about how ghosts work. She had kind of justassumed that if they were real, theywould be more like the ones in Harry Potter. But Derek looks pretty solid toher.
It makes her wonder why Allison never came back to see her. That wouldmake more sense, to have her best friend visiting from the dead instead of awerewolf acquaintance. But maybe Allison’s life didn’t have any open ends, maybe she was able to pass over to the other side or something (okay, she knowsshe’s going a little Jennifer Love Hewitt in Ghost Whisperer here okay, dealwith it). Perhaps Derek still has unfinished business. She’s not about to askhim about it though.
“Can you read this for me,” she asks after twenty minutes ofsurprisingly comfortable silence. Derek catches Malia’s paper between his handswhen she throws it at him. “Just see if there’s any grammar issues I missed…She’s doing a lot better, though.” He just nods, eyes darting across the paper, catching his bottom lips between his teeth. It’s ridiculous, really, what thatimage does to her, making the air suddenly feel a little bit too warm.
Lydia jumps up and excuses herself to the bathroom, splashing water onher face. She cannot be attracted toa fucking dead man okay. He probably can’t even touch her. It would just belike cold air or ice water or something. And that sounds exactly like the kindof fun she doesn’t want to have. Shehides in the bathroom until her heart rate slows, keeping the water running inthe sink in hopes of keeping Derek from hearing her (although, is he still awerewolf as a ghost? Does he still have enhanced senses? This is why she needsto be able to talk to Stiles about this). She decides to ask Derek abouttelling the others, but when she gets back to her room, he’s gone.
Malia’s essay is sitting on her bed, a pink sticky note stuck on top.
Looks good.Corrected a couple of things. -D
—
Derek starts showing up more and more after that. Lydia doesn’t see howhe gets into her bedroom, she’ll just look up and find him there, usuallylounging in her chair. He slowly opens up to her, tells her about his family, his mom and Laura, how he misses them. They talk about college, how he went toNYU for a little while, how she’ll be starting at UCLA in the fall. He editsher essays and checks over her Valedictorian speech. They talk about bansheesand werewolves and wendigos, Lydia writing down everything Derek has to share. She tells him about the random pack shenanigans, how Scott and Kira have beenoff and on for the last couple of months, how Liam is doing really well withhis control, how Mason is the thirstiest fifteen year old she’s ever met.
It hits her one day, while watching Derek read her copy of To Kill AMockingbird, that he has managed to insinuate himself into the position of bestfriend. Other than Allison, and maybe Jackson, she is pretty sure she’s neveropened up this much to another person. And he’s a ghost. And there’s a slight chance she’s falling in love with him.Fuck.
—
“Has Derek been here?” Scott asks a few days later. He moves from thedoorway and actually sniffs at herchair. Werewolves are so weird.
“Um…” Lydia blinks at him, because she really didn’t think that a ghostwould have a scent. Also, why would Scott ask if a dead man had been in her room?
“I didn’t think he had talked to anyone else.” Scott continues, seemingly satisfied with the scent of the chair as he flops down into. “But it reeks of him in here. Jesus.”
“Wait. You know about Derek?”Lydia asks, putting her hands on her hips and glaring just a little bit. “Hetold me not to tell anyone he was here.” Scott shrugs like it’s no big dealthat ghosts are really.
“Well yeah, Stiles was really upset that he wouldn’t at least come homewith us after Mexico. He left with Braeden instead, without even talking toStiles. Which kind of screwed with everyone ‘cause they all thought he wasdying.”
Wait.
She sinks down onto her bed, covering her face with her hands and justtrying to breathe. Her vision goesblurry, and she knows she shouldn’t be this upset, but seriously, what thefuck? “Hey Lyds, you okay?” Scott’s suddenly beside her, wrapping an arm aroundhe shoulders and stroking her hair. “What’s going on?”
“You guys didn’t tell me what happened!” she chokes out, rubbingfuriously at her eyes. “I tried to ask about him and… I just thought he was dead Scott! I screamed for him and noone thought to tell me he was still alive? Stiles practically bit my head offwhen I asked him about it!” Scott freezes in place for a moment, before pullingher tightly against his chest.
“Lydia oh my god, I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t, I thought someone wouldhave told you, this is all my fault,” he whispers, and she thinks she can feeltears dripping into her hair. She doesn’t say anything, she can’t right now,but she will. She’ll forgive him. She always does.
“What’s going on?” The sound of Derek’s voice has them both flinching, and Lydia suddenly feels angry filling her chest.
“You!” She pulls away from Scott and stomps over to Derek, poking himhard in the chest. He’s definitely very solid. And warm. And real. “I thoughtyou were a ghost for the last four months! I thought I was losing my mind! Ithought I could talk to fucking dead people!” There’s a noise from behind herthat sound suspiciously like Scott laughing, but Lydia plows on. “I thought mybest friend was a ghost! And this whole time you were actually real and younever said anything! What the Hell Derek?! We could’ve been doing… things.” Shetrails off at the end, refusing to let her cheeks heat up with embarrassment.Nope. There’s just rage boiling here.
She’s not at all prepared for Derek to smile and cup her cheeks in hishands, bending down and pressing a soft kiss to her lips. And she’s definitelynot prepared for him to remove her finger from where it’s still jabbing at him, slipping his own fingers between hers until they’re holding hands.
“Go out to dinner with me?” He asks, and Scott whoops behind her. Lydiaglares at Derek, but doesn’t pull her hand back, to busy trying to reconcilethe warmth she can feel radiating offhis skin with the icy cold she expected to find.
“Listen buddy, I thought you were dead up until five minutes ago, youcan’t just waltz in here and expect me to-” Derek kisses her again, this one alittle longer as he sucks gently on her bottom lip.
“It’s a simple question Lydia, yes or no?” He says with a smirk.
“Well obviously the answer is yes.” She snaps, pulling away and spinningaround in an attempt to avoid looking at his ridiculous face. Scott’s smirkingat her too, which is even moreannoying, but she doesn’t want to climb him like a tree. It’s the lesser of twoevils. “Pick me up at seven. I expect you to be dressed nicely. And be preparedfor some serious discussion about you not clarifying that you were alive.” She chances a glance over hershoulder, catching him in the act of smiling softly at her back. Then he nodsat Scott and jumps out the window. Weirdo.
“So… you and Derek huh?” Scott asks nonchalantly. Lydia glares at himand points menacingly.
“You are so not off the hook mister.” She hisses. Scott just grins.
“Oh please, you got a date out of it didn’t you?”
Which is true, she’ll give him that. But they all better hope it’s agood one.
(Spoiler: It’s a very gooddate. Derek takes her to the only nice restaurant in town, and doesn’t even batan eye when she orders a dish with lobster in it. Then they go get ice creamand eat it while sitting on the hood of his car. Which turns into making out onthe hood of his car. Which turns into Lydia deciding that he is very, very muchalive.)
