Young defenseman Dylan Olsen scored nine points in his first 15 games with the Panthers two seasons ago and earned his first one-way, two-year contract that summer.
So I’ve alluded to this a few times, but I spent a good portion of last season trying to figure out just what happened to Dylan Olsen. I had of course heard about his failure to show up to San Antonio and how he was taking some ‘personal’ time back in Calgary. While this still doesn’t explain everything, I’m glad to see he seems to be doing better.
This is why the new focus on mental health and transitioning to a normal life by both the NHL and the NHLPA remain very important to my mind.
ETA: I want to clarify, I do NOT know what happened to Olsen. I’m glad whatever kept him from hockey is resolved. However, in general I believe that the NHL-NHLPA need to help these guys balance their lives better.
