guy who's normal about doctor stephen strange: i really really wish they brought up donna strange in the first movie. i think it would've given stephen's character much more emotional depth and would've made the loss of his profession all the more harrowing. from what it looked like, derrickson would've changed it so that donna drowned when they were kids instead of right before stephen went off to college. they could've characterized his decision to become a doctor as some sort of penance for "letting" donna drown-- so when he can't perform anymore, it's not just about losing his riches and fame, but about letting his sister down again. and it could've made the ancient one's death even more tragic. where once again, stephen can't save someone he cared about from dying-- which would give the ancient one's parting words ("it's not about you") much more gravitas. donna's death isn't about stephen, he can't just blame himself anymore. and of course establishing the donna backstory in the 1st movie would've added some nice implications about his connections w/ peter and america. did they remind him of donna in their own ways? what if the What If...? episode was about stephen trying to save donna instead of christine? what if Multiverse of Madness created a parallel between wanda trying to save her family while stephen's still struggling to accept his sister's death? god. god.
