For your Geralt/Lambert fluffy prompt request: Geralt uses a rather great technique to break tension with Ciri in the game - he takes her mind off her troubles with destructive fun. Maybe some destructive fun with Lambert when he's having an off day? Or just some good blanket forts and cuddles on the anniversary of Aiden's death if you're feeling the H/C vibe.
This has been sitting in my inbox for a couple of days cause I had to think on it for a while, get myself back into a space where I could write these two, but this idea is really cute! Initially I was feeling hurt/comfort for this one, cause I adore causing Lambert pain, but instead I’m just gonna start writing and see what comes out.
A heavy hand landed on Lambert’s shoulder where he was leering at his Gwent deck in frustration. He turned to glare at the cause, and saw Geralt holding a box.
“Bombs?” Lambert asked, squinting at the label. The words swam in his vision, but he recognized the cautionary signs. “What are you doing with those?”
“Clearing out storage. Come fishing with me? I thought you could show me how to do things your way.”
Lambert wasn’t stupid. He knew what was going on. He winced slightly, recalling his anger the day prior, frustration when attempting to read a book turning into him lashing out. Wasn’t his fault the letters never stayed where they were supposed to be. Eskel had started reading over his shoulder, watching him trace words, making minor corrections when he said a word wrong because an m or a w switched on him, but his frustration had grown until Lambert yelled, declaring that if Eskel wanted to read him the fucking book, at least have the decency to ask first.
“Yeah, alright,” Lambert agreed. Watching shit blow up would be a nice distraction, after all.
“You know what’s great about fishing like this?” Lambert hummed pleasantly, using a tool to carefully clean dust off out of the sensitive parts of a bomb.
“What’s that?” Geralt asked from where he was attempting to untie a boat from the dock.
“It’s so much faster. When fishing normally, the waiting is the worst part. I’m a busy guy, I have places to be, I just need some grub! This way, it’s just,” he made an explosion noise with his mouth. “And then you have lunch.” Lambert tucked back into his work, blowing lightly to clear the dirt that had been scraped off. “These definitely aren’t going to work though. Where’d you keep them that they got so dirty?”
“East tower. Would’ve been fine, but the roof caved in and covered the box with dirt while we were out this year. We’re lucky they didn’t go off and blow up half the keep.” Geralt grunted with effort, and Lambert paused to watch appreciatively as Geralt’s arms flexed in his armor while he struggled with the knot.
“Should keep them in the main hall like I’ve got mine,” Lambert suggested. “Roof is more solid out there. It’s warmer, but as long as they’re not too close to the fires you should be fine.” He set down the bomb he was cleaning to keep watching Geralt struggle. “Knot can’t be that hard. Didn’t you tie it last time?”
“Oh shut it,” Geralt said, rolling his eyes at the teasing. Lambert grinned and continued staring. It was nice of Geralt to want to help him feel better, not that he’d tell him that. It really was too bad it hadn’t worked out, although getting outside had helped his mind settle, concentrate on something that he wouldn’t need to read to enjoy. Geralt was usually around when Lambert needed an outlet, a half-formed idea in his head and an even less thought out plan to make it work— Lambert would usually do the mental work, but it helped him settle. He remembered Geralt finding him after he’d come home one winter, practically vibrating with energy, demanding Lambert help him with a new potion he was working on. Lambert thought fondly of the ease of which Geralt had listened and followed his instructions, soaking up information and spitting it out with perfect recollection throughout the process. Even if the results had been less than spectacular, the potion not helping the toxicity of decoctions, the bonding experience had been great, and kept them occupied for weeks.
“Let me help you,” Lambert said, standing up from his spot.
“Thanks Lambert,” Geralt said defeatedly. “This was probably a dumb idea.”
“Your ideas are always dumb,” Lambert said, easily getting his fingers in the rope and untangling the knot. Geralt made an offended sound as Lambert handed him the rope, now separated from the dock. But the amusement in his eyes told a different story.
“Want to go look for foglets out on the lake?” He asked. Lambert almost spoke up about how he had just mentioned Geralt’s ideas were dumb— then shook his head, bumping their shoulders affectionately.
This became way more loving and sweet than I had expected ;u; thank you for this idea, and I hope you like it!!
