Kaya was shaking as she left Darian’s room. She’d managed to mostly keep herself composed until then though she was sure her shock was obvious to him. She could feel her heart pounding and as she walked out of the building, it felt like her body wasn’t her own. The dread and panic was starting to seep in.
It was a rare thing for someone to purposely touch her while knowing of her abilities. And the fact that Darian did just that, while clearly being someone who had been through a lot, with things to hide… well, that was huge. At least, it was huge to her.
So many times, the moment that she’d confessed to having those sorts of abilities, people recoiled in one way or another. The rare times that she was able to experience touch from another person, it was because she never told them about it. It was why her sexual experiences stayed within the realm of one night stands. She felt guilty keeping it from anyone she would see again. But, of course, that left those experiences as something that felt rather hollow.
For several minutes, she just sat on the ground, outside the fence of the company house, trying to calm herself down so she wouldn’t look like a complete spaz on her way home. What made this more frightening to her is the fact that she knew she’d be seeing him again. Dyvoire had not only wanted to bring the relic to this man for his assistance with the port, but also seemed to want her to assist with their mission surrounding illusion magic, in general.
While part of her felt glad that someone didn’t seem afraid of her since that meant perhaps this was someone she could get to know. Another part of her was frightened by it. She could just be setting herself up for disappointment. It was best to keep her expectations low. Most likely, he’d be keeping his distance now, right?
