The Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild 2
E3 2021 Trailer
Something fast, Link with long hair is so... so... please 2022 come soon *sob*
Long haired Link and pretty landscapes
LOOK AT HIS HAND!!!
THE POWER OF THE TRIFORCE
HE'S CONTROLLING TIME
I don't know how many people picked up on it, but the E3 trailer for BoTW2 actually has.some notable correlations with another Zelda game currently being heavily pushed.
Skyward Sword.
Perhaps that's obvious, at least some of it. Clouds, skies, and likely flight and such. But there's at least one or two more things that line up than just the skies above what would become BoTW's Hyrule.
The intro actually is the most notable. It's a pretty good mirror for a key part of Skyward Sword. Here you have this dark energy swallowing up Link's arm- it's likely he'll lose it here and have it replaced by the tech one we see later on. But this isn't the important part, infact the important part isn't *here*. It's in the first trailer.
In the first trailer we see some sort of energy burst causing the ledge Zslda is standing on the break- here's our first one. In Skyward Sword, Link's peaceful life with Zelda in Skyloft is interupted when they go flying through the clouds and a fierce whirlwind erupts frok below and swallows her up, dragging her into the land below.
And what do we see after Link's arm is being attacked in the second trailer? Zelda falling into a void, one of which nobody can be certain of what lies below it. No, I don't think she's going to die or she's going to be the damsel in distress. She wasn't even the damsel in distrsss in BoTW1, she was half of the entire reason Ganon was defeated, and literally the entire reason so much of Hyrule survived. BoTW Zelda is a fucking badass and she's incredibly powerful, wherever she's going to end up, she will be okay.
Skyward Sword Zelda wasn't a damsel in distress either. Infact, while Link was chasing after her, it wasn't to rescue her. It was because he wanted to be with her again. But he couldn't, it wasn't allowed. Zelda had an incredibly important role to play in the events that would come, and Link was forced to accept that. By the time they did reunite, they were forced to part yet again. While for Link it wasn't that long... for Zelda? It was ages. But in the end they were able to live happily and build Hyrule together.
So there is precident for Zelda to have this important story role and to be a key piece of the narrative as she does her part in striking down the villian!
ANYWAYS
We get the next corrolation literally a moment later, with the fade from black to Link diving from the sky to Hyrule below. The placement of these two scenes next to eachother and the diving to the ground? As a SS fan it just screams one thing.
Skyward Sword Link's first steps onto Hyrule. Leaving the sky above and the visuals of the scene where he entered the realm nobody had stepped foot in in centuries. Of course, this wouldn't be the same in a BoTW sequel, but the theming of this placement hits the right beats nonetheless. This diving is RIGHT out of SS. I'm not even mentioning how Link is diving through a ring in the clouds, just link how he entered Hyrule in Skyward Sword.
Of course, you already likely know about the floating isles. But there are some other small things. Link is now able to reverse time with his arm, and when he does so a pulse is sent throughout the area around him: *Somewhat* akin to Timeshift stones. There was also a mech of sorts that has a slight similarity to some of the tech in SS.
Now, to clarify. No, I don't think we'll literally be seeing Skyloft and all that good stuff in BoTW 2. I would love that, but I think its more likely that there's inspiration being taken artistically from Skyward Sword and that's a good thing, even if you may not think so. SS's story is *very* good, and it has honestly one of the best.written versions of both Link and Zelda in the series history. Hell! We already know Fi exists in BoTW thanks to the scene with Zelda and the Master Sword (Fi is awesome, ya'll just can't see it)
It could.very well be a coincidence, but if they are taking inspiration from SS, I'd be very happy.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO POST THIS ONE! Anyway, I got way too many messages the morning that the E3 Nintendo Direct trailer was premiering. I guess my silly little arm au came true...
