The project forms around the likeness of a covered car, to be dyed with a solution of discarded, oxidized materials during a series of workshops and ceremonies. These assemblies call on visibility and invisibility of discarded objecthood: is it an abandoned vehicle or a public monument? A rusted relic or a deliberate composition? A landfill or a park? ALSO! We are seeking rust metals, car parts, or discarded steel odds and end for the taking in the NYC area. Please give a shout if you are up fo joining the scavenging. As fellows at @socratespark this summer me & @audrey_snyder fabricated this tubular steel armature which is both a full-scale model of a 1986 Chevy and all the bones just beneath the surface of our sculpture for #TheSocratesAnnual #EAF18 which opens on October 7, 3-6p. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Our frame has a rust-dyed cover, created through participatory workshops, and over the course of the exhibition it will continue to rust and reveal more of the form beneath the surface. But for the most part it will remain hidden, with the exception of iron stains, oxide impressions, and these few images. ⁣ ⁣ This thing was a wonderful, sweaty, satisfying challenge to design and zap together. It is solid as hell, surprisingly light, fits on a trailer, and built to live and last outside. We would love to find it a second home after the exhibition closes in March, 2019. Here’s a warp-speed rendering of slow-motion rust dyeing. The other day we unraveled the last of our rust-dyed textiles for the “into the ground” project at Socrates with the help of @cassitacassita & @5andrea (📽 by Andrea 🔗). Next the material gets assembled as a slip cover and installed with the finished work at @socratespark for #TheSocratesAnnual #EAF18 opening October 7. (at Socrates Sculpture Park)

Hearty, earthy thanks to all who came and corroded to our rust-dye jumble & workshop at @socratespark this past weekend. There is actually nothing better than playing in the dirt and making a mess with new and old friends. Today we unpacked the collective oxide composition with help from @pats.pants & @5andrea. These imprints will form a slip- cover for our contribution to the upcoming #TheSocratesAnnual #EAF18 exhibition, opening on October 7. Had a super nice time rust-dyeing textiles with visitors to @socratespark this weekend. Nothing quite like kids and adults alike getting stoked about making a mess and taking it home.
