Carson Wentz has the edge on Sam Bradford

The Philadelphia Eagles will be running a new offense again this year, with new head coach Doug Pederson.  Sam Bradford is expected to be the starter day one, but with both Bradford and number 2 overall pick Carson Wentz trying to learn the offense, it seems like one player is picking up the offense quicker. It is still early but Wentz seems to be understanding the playbook better than Bradford, according to Matt Lombardo of NJ.com.

“Wentz has shown a plus-NFL arm, accuracy to make every throw on the route tree and an ability to move in the pocket and buy time,” Matt Lombardo of NJ.com writes. “Not for nothing, but Wentz also seems to be ahead of Bradford in terms of mastering Doug Pederson’s offense.”

Both quarterbacks are starting new with rookie head coach Doug Pederson’s offensive scheme. Surprisingly, the rookie has an edge right now.

Sam Bradford understands fans are upset; #Eagles coaches say Bradford is the man

Sam Bradford knows the fans are upset with him, but his coach says he is still the man in town

Sam Bradford was holding out because he would have to compete with Carson Wentz for the starting spot in Philly.  Well Bradford said he just needed time off.

“I just felt like I needed some time. I could have stayed here, could have continued to work here, but I’m not sure my head really would have been here those two weeks,” Bradford said today, in his first public comments since the drama created by his attempt to orchestrate a trade.

“There’s no promises in this business,” Bradford said. “It wasn’t a long-term deal. It was a two-year deal. I was well aware of that. We talked about that. My goal was to play well for the next two years and create that stability that I talked about for pretty much my whole career. Philadelphia is the place I wanted to be. I wanted to play well for the next two years, create that stability, and then sign a longer-term deal and stay here for the rest of my career.”

“I’m not completely naive,” Bradford said. “If the organization made a move to No. 2, you realize that at some point, it’s not going to be my team.”

“I get it. They have every right to be frustrated,” Bradford said. “I think the only thing I can do going forward is to continue to get better. Go out there on Sundays in September, play good football, win football games and hopefully win them back. I don’t think there’s anything I can say, it’s all about my actions and what I do going forward.”

Bradford does not have to worry though. According to Doug Pederson the teams head coach, Bradford is the starting quarterback for their team.

“My feelings haven’t changed,” Pederson said, via Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He’s my guy. He’s the No. 1 guy. I just want him to embrace that. … I expect Sam to not look over his shoulder. I expect Sam to look forward. … That is the message I gave him.”

Darren Sproles is skipping OTA's; #Eagles are fielding trade offers

Are the Eagles trying to trade RB Darren Sproles

The Philadelphia Eagles have been making moves left and right this off-season and by the sounds of it they are not done. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media Insiders, the Eagles are entertaining offers for running back Darren Sproles.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles received calls of trade interest in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft, per sources informed of his situation. Sproles is staying away from OTAs until the issue is sorted out.

Rapoport added that the running back isn’t frustrated by the situation, but is on the West Coast with his family while Eagles’ practices commence.

I wonder is Chip Kelly is one of the people interested in Sproles? I am sure he would have interest as he loves backs that can catch out the backfield.

Eagles signed another former Bills linebacker; Team signed 2 and released 2

Ty Powell has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed another Buffalo Bills player.  According to Adam Caplan, the Eagles signed tight end M.J. McFarland and LB Ty Powell.  The team waived QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson and OL Brett Boyko.

Ty Powell played college football for Harding, and is a very solid outside backer and special teams player.  The former Bills linebacker has knowledge of Jim Schwartz’ wide 9 scheme.

Eagles rookie talks about his domestic violence charge and boy did he mess this up

Eagles draft pick Jalen Mills should be quiet, because he is not helping himself

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted several players with red flags and it is already coming back to slap them in the face. Jalen Mills the defensive back from LSU who was drafted in the seventh round by the Eagles, really messed up when talking to Jeff McClane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was asked about the situation and Mills really said some dumb things.  People are going to criticize Greg Hardy for his statements to Adam Schefter, but this has to be right up there with Hardy’s responses.

“The girl — basically it was her word vs. mine. Domestic violence is very serious around the [United States], so women, nine times out of 10, they usually get the upper hand until you go to court,” Mills said

“She had witnesses, but I had several witnesses, as well, too,” Mills said. “So we just carried on until the process was dropped.”

According to Pro Football Talk, Mills originally faced one count of second-degree felony assault. The charge later was reduced to misdemeanor assault, a decision that created some controversy in and around Baton Rouge (and which prompted the prosecutor to suggest that the charge wasn’t actually reduced, even though it clearly was). During the preliminary hearing, Mills’ lawyer claimed that the punch had been thrown not by Mills but by his girlfriend.

Mills entered a diversion program not long before the case was set to go to trial in April 2015.

“Didn’t want to go to court. Didn’t want it to linger on,” Mills said. “That’s just something I did. I pled no contest, so I’m . . . not guilty for anything.”

The Eagles may want to lock him in a closet so he doesn’t have to speak to any more media, because his comments are not going to help him.  Mills basically said it was his word versus her word, instead of saying it was a mistake or nothing happened. I am not a big fan of this.

Eagles DL Fletcher Cox will skip the voluntary OTA’s.

According to Pro Football Talk, Fletcher Cox the Eagles best defensive lineman is skipping voluntary workouts. Many thought Sam Bradford would skip, but he reported to camp yesterday.  Cox on the other hand is hoping to land a new contract, but has not made too much progress in doing so.

The Eagles have been very good at re-signing their players this year, as they have given tons of players on their team a new contract extension.

Howie Roseman has been crystal clear in his desire to hand Cox a big-money deal, so at this point I do not know what Cox gains by skipping the workouts. 

I am sure there will be a deal done very soon.

Sam Bradford releases a statement saying he is now committed to winning a Super Bowl in Philly

Sam Bradford has returned to the Eagles

Sam Bradford is something else. Last week he was pouting like a little girl because he had to compete with Carson Wentz the second overall pick. Now, after no one would even call to trade for him, he quickly changed his tune. As of today he is now committed to win a Super Bowl.

According to Pro Football Talk, Bradford released a statement saying that he’s committed to the team, excited to be a part of it, and hoping to win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia.

“I’m excited to be back on the field today with my teammates and coaches,” Bradford said. “The business-side of football is sometimes a necessary consideration. My attention and efforts are focused on the participation in and preparation for a championship season: I am committed to my teammates and the Eagles organization for nothing less.”

This has to be a joke. If I was an Eagles fan I would still ride him about his actions.

#Eagles linebacker says Sam Bradford will be at voluntary workouts today

Sam Bradford will be in Philadelphia today for voluntary workouts

Sam Bradford’s hold out has reportedly ended already.  According to Connor Barwin the Eagles linebacker, Sam will be at the team’s voluntary workout today.

“He’ll be here today. I talked to him,” Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin said on 94WIP on Monday morning of the Eagles QB. “He texted me and said, ‘I’ll see you tomorrow.’ And I said, ‘I can’t wait man.'” Bradford’s agent, Tom Condon, confirmed to ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that the QB will be at the Eagles facility

This is great news for the Eagles. Carson Wentz will finally be able to sit behind Bradford and Chase Daniel and learn the playbook.  This could end up being a huge blessing for the Eagles and their veterans.
