     Mild shock translates through his expression, though it’s quickly dissolved by a fond smile. The campfire’s warm glow washes both the young benders in orange light against the evening shadow as Aang reclines against Appa’s soft fur. 

     It was rare to see Toph get sentimental, but it was a sentiment that Aang returned with every ounce of his heart. I finally had a family. He thought of Sokka and Katara, Appa and Momo, and Toph. Headstrong and stubborn, but strong and sturdy. And brave. He couldn’t ask for a better earthbending teacher, or someone to call family.

     “ I feel the same. ” He looks on at the earthbender’s silhouette, knowing that she won’t be able to see his expression. So he hopes the honesty in his voice will be enough. “ You’’ll always be loved and appreciated here, Toph. ”

Hi, I know i'm a duplicate but I just wanted to quickly pop in and just say THANK YOU from the bottom to the top of my heart. I have seen both your rp style, art, and a few head cannons and I adore how much love and thought you put into Toph. It really shines in your writing and characterization. I know this is really random and I apologize but it just makes me so happy to see how much love and effort you put into this amazing muse. Thank you for all you do and keep up the amazing work!

The heist would be in two days. Not a lot of time to prepare, but it needed to be done. Given there wouldn’t be enough time to think of any other plan. Besides, this one, by far, is the greatest plan that they’ve ever conjured. 

Sat in her large chair, more like a throne really, she began to explain the plan.

“There’s a high security bank in the northern part of the Fire Nation. We’re raiding it on the solar eclipse, Toph, I will need you to come with me and the others inside the building, that’s where the most guards are and I won’t have any fire bending for the time.”

It had been one of her snarky little comments made in passing after Sokka was insisting that he has killer looks. When it had garnered laughter and smart remarks from most of the gang, Sokka had looked to Toph for aid and she had replied something to the effect that she didn’t know why he was asking her. She doesn’t know what any of them look like. 

It shouldn’t have stuck with him the way it has. After all, Toph makes comments like that all the time. It’s one of the reasons the two of them get along so well. The self-deprecating humor. The snark.

And yet… it had. 

He doesn’t completely understand. How could he? He still has vision in one eye, at least. But he does know that as difficult as it is for him––depth perception first and foremost––he can still see. He still knows how all of them look. 

But Toph doesn’t, because she doesn’t have even the benefit of one good eye.

Funny how being blind in one eye used to leave him so bitter. It’s hard to be angry about it when you have a reminder that others––a friend, even––aren’t even so fortunate as that. 

So, after mulling over this for most of the day, at his first opportunity to catch her alone, he does so. 

“Hey, Toph… Can I, ah… Can I talk to you for a minute?”

     “ I would give Toph a nickname of her own but I think she’d just beat me up if I did. ”

    “𝓣here’s a certain pride that comes with being the only airbender in a long line of earthbenders.” Opal exhaled as a smile grew on her face as she reminisced on those facts. A rare ability that found itself in the heart of the Beifong family. It was also terrifying all at the same time. But, she could always lean on her family members for support and techniques to use in her own bending. “I bet you never really thought that would be a possibility, did you?”
