FUCK UP ALERT!
From our label manager Bazooka Joe:
Thanks to my dad, and to my uncles Albert and Joe for starting me on the path... this re-release was ten years in the making, and is ultimately my life's work.
When I was in grade school in the mid-80s, my dad mentioned to me that my uncle Albert (as Alberto Perverto) took the photos for a punk record by a band called Puke Spit & Guts - my dad and uncle lived on the same property as band member Captain Worm - and he was describing the scenario on the cover: the band had a bunch of people, including a child, a guy in a wheelchair, and a pregnant woman lined up against a wall, and they were about to be shot. To this day I have no idea why he would tell a young kid such a thing. I remember going to school the next day and telling my friends on the playground about the record, but they shrugged me off. Fast forward to my mid-20s and the family and some of their friends who were around during the PS&G phenomena were singing "You Ain't Never Gonna" at the dinner table at Thanksgiving. Then in 2001 I was digging in my uncle Joe's storage shed and found the LP. First time I'd seen it, and he let me have it. When I started working for Slovenly in the mid-00s my first mission was to do the reissue. Uncle Perverto gave me Donny Death's email address, so I wrote and got a response back saying that Jello Biafra at Alternative Tentacles was in the process of doing the release already. A couple years passed and it still hadn't come out, so I went back and forth with Donny for a few more years as the thing with AT began to atrophy due to various unfortunate circumstances with the label and other band members. He didn't care to have the record come out at all by this point. Then I got an email from a French label last year who had seen me talking online about trying to make the reissue happen a few times in years past. He asked if "Eat Hot Lead" was coming out on Black Gladiator / Slovenly, and if it wasn't, he was gonna go ahead and press it himself. I told Donny that if we didn't make this happen immediately that the record was gonna come out whether he approved or not, via a bootleg. If that guy in France hadn't told me his plan, you'd have a weak and unauthorized version of what we have now. So... merci! Alberto Perverto had some of his original photos and sent them to me, so we made a new version of the Marie Manslaughter 8x10 (originally a mail order add-on) that we sent to her for autographs. The first 100 copies of the LP are clear with red blood splatter and include the picture, and we made a few extra 8x10s that can be purchased separately. Album is out on June 02. The bandcamp download only (you get a download when you buy the LP, too) comes with 10 bonus tracks and 24 rare photographs. This record is not only genius, it's ABSURDIST versus offensive. So think about that before you start crying, you fucking wimps.
