The Benefits of Eccentric Exercise, Plus 5 Moves to Try
CONCENTRIC VS ECCENTRIC EXERCISE FOR GAINING MUSCLE. SCIENTISTS SAY THIS IS THE BEST TYPE OF CONTRACTION.
CONCENTRIC VS ECCENTRIC EXERCISE FOR GAINING MUSCLE SUMMARY There is no superiority of eccentric exercise compared to concentric contractions when high levels of effort or the sets are taken to failure.· Muscle damage becomes less over time due to the repeated bout effect, but muscle growth still occurs. Excess muscle damage can reduce muscle growth. When using the same amount…

What are the Effects of a Combined Protein & Antioxidant Supplement on Recovery of Muscle Function & Soreness following Eccentric Exercise?
What are the Effects of a Combined Protein & Antioxidant Supplement on Recovery of Muscle Function & Soreness following Eccentric Exercise?
Research Paper Title
Effects of a combined protein and antioxidant supplement on recovery of muscle function and soreness following eccentric exercise
Background
An acute bout of eccentric contractions (ECC) cause muscle fiber damage, inflammation, impaired muscle function (MF) and muscle soreness (MS). Individually, protein (PRO) and antioxidant (AO) supplementation may improve some aspects of…

This high quality RCT examines the preventative effect of the Nordic hamstring exercises on primary and recurrent hamstring injuries in soccer
This high quality RCT recruited 579 amateur soccer players into either a control group that performed 'normal training' or a intervention group that performed 13 weeks of nordic hamstring strengthening. The intervention group suffered 2/3 less (p=0.005) hamstring injuries than the control group over the season.

What qualifies as "rest"
Finding a balance of rest and exercise is really trial and error for me. I have yet found a balance.
During the month of april I noticed a lot my rest throughout the week would make me feel great on Saturday. So I would try to walk more on Saturday and then by Sunday I was in pain and would lay in bed all day. It wouldn't be until Thursday/Friday I feel better, Saturday great.. then I'd repeat the cycle.
Since my Washington D.C trip I almost worry if I made them worse. They were pretty painful for the next few days. So since then I've completed rested, or shall I say vegged. This weekend although they felt OK, I still didn't move much. Easy to do when there's a Harry Potter marathon on, Thanks ABC family ;)
I'm still just vegging. And right now my knees are feeling good. I'm going to keep this up another weekend. Then go back to my eccentric exercises.
Because my work office is upstairs and we don't have an elevator, I've been side stepping going down stairs. I think this still activates the "eccentric" part of the exercise. Plus, I really think it's helping pain wise. I may look ridiculous, but I'm past that point now :)
