Eccentric Sleeve Notes (issue #4) YEAR: 1983 CREATED BY: Simon McKay, Stephen Joyce, Dave Martin and Linda Grant LOCATION: Whickham SIZE: A5 WHAT'S INSIDE.... This little zine manages to pack a huge number of band interviews, live reviews and photos into just 24 A5 pages. The Clash appear on the front and back cover, and inside there’s a short interview with Joe Strummer, which was done after a gig at Newcastle City Hall during the band’s turbulent UK tour in the summer of 1982. The most interesting interview is with the Gang Of Four - another band who were in terminal decline at the time. Strangely enough they spend a substantial part of the interview dissing their superior earlier material while trying to justify their somewhat desperate attempts to become commercially successful. Les Pattinson, bass player with Echo and the Bunnymen, also has a few worthwhile things to say.... China Crisis, OK Jive, Roman Holliday, The Bluebells, Kissing The Pink, The Daintees, Fashion and The Belle Stars also get a write up, and the last few pages of the zine include gig photos of U2, Haircut 100, Depeche Mode, Toyah, Japan, Duran Duran, The Beat, Yazoo and Simple Minds.
