Physics "quiz" at 11:30. It was a 15-question multiple choice thing where your score doesn't actually matter. That is, if you were on time and actually took it, you get a free homework grade. I felt it was pretty easy considering I did not prepare for it at all; it was mostly qualitative stuff like understanding the concepts, which I am better at than actually doing problems.

Then actual physics lecture at noon, some stuff about the a- and a+ operator stuff and something

Data structures at 1pm, more on binary search trees, some different types (went over AVL trees). I drew a binary tree inside a rectangle. It went all the way to the edge of the rectangle. Anyway, some very brief overview of B+ trees at the end, then got our third assignment.

Solid state at 3pm. Uhh... yeah. I don't remember. I drew a lot of boxes and perspective things. Got our assignment at the end, due on Tuesday.

Walked home at 5pm, 4929 steps

Oh yeah also they turned the exit corresponding to the most convenient staircase (the one I use all the time) into an emergency exit a few days ago, and it's just like "ergh why would you do that" because now I have to exit on the third floor, walk all the way across the third floor and then down the main staircase to the main entrance/exit. I often hear the sound of the emergency exit alarm when near the staircase anyway, kinda like how no one cares that exits in subway stations are emergency exits and use them anyway and it just causes unnecessary noise. Okay yeah, just a rant because that was my favorite staircase and exit and it was just so convenient and now I can't use it.

Data structures at 1pm, discussion about the second programming assignment, and then trees (i.e. binary trees)

Solid State at 3pm, learned something or other also

Computer center at 5pm, worked on matlab portions of signals homework with friend

went home at about 6:15pm, then went to a restaurant at about 7:30, until 9pm.

Physics at noon, infinite square well

Data structures at 1pm, selection algorithms (i.e. select the kth smallest item) and got our third assignment, or rather project because those are two different things

Solid state exam at 3pm, it was "what is this" and think I ended up learning how to do most of it during the exam (and I thought "ohh so that's what we were doing in class")

We were allowed one sheet (front and back) with whatever we wanted to write on it, and so here is mine (the writing and diagrams are tiny, more noticeable in real life) but only ended up using the stuff in red (which didn't actually help all too much). Anyway I am hoping some of that stuff was correct

Took subway home at about 5pm, the subway wasn't nearly as crowded as last week, and I actually had a place to sit (I read some of the HSS stuff and one of the books I borrowed from Bobst was perfect for my research topic thing)

Physics at noon, minimum energy of a spring-mass system, then went over Fourier series stuff

Data structures at 1pm, went over non-comparative sorts (binsort and least significant digit radix sort) and indirect sorting (using pointers, array indices)

Solid state at 3pm, I'm not sure what we learned but it was probably something

5pm: Went to McDonald's, got a sweet tea that tasted pretty weird, it almost tasted like milk tea except not. Or I guess a less sweetened sweet tea. In any case it was not like it usually was. Took subway home, and since it was rush hour, it was crowded and I didn't get to sit down anywhere but that is okay

4pm: solid state materials, more about BJTs and common something and alphas and betas where alpha is beta over beta plus one which is approximately one for large values of beta and something about the Q-point

5pm: Physics recitation, some stuff about complex numbers, which as EEs we should already be very familiar with. Professor was trying to expand out the cross terms when multiplying a number by its complex conjugate and it was just like "why would you do that" because it is 0 anyway

Went home at 6pm, 4548 steps

11am: Physics exam on special relativity and some optics stuff, it was relatively okay

1pm: data structures, learned about mergesort and quicksort

3pm: solid state, learned about logic circuits using diodes, and multiple diode circuits (used to create piecewise functions), and then some bipolar junction transistor stuff at the end

5pm: walked home, 5291 steps

Physics at 11:30am, went over fusion and stuff related to particle accelerators and LHC and whatnot, more examples of conservation of 4-momentum and energy

Data structures at 1pm, went over what is expected for the first program, then went over a few sorting algorithms (bubble sort, insertion sort, selection sort, some of merge sort). Got assignment 1 back, got a point taken off for question 1 and it made no sense so I asked about it after class and I will get that point back because it was incorrectly graded, yes excellent

Solid state at 3pm, more on zener diode regulator circuits, and ended with voltage doublers

Walked home at 5pm, 3164 steps taken

Actually woah I didn't realize until just now that the ground wasn't as unpleasant as it was yesterday, in fact I didn't notice at all

March 23, 2011 - 5884 steps

Physics at 10am, examples of conservation of 4-momentum and energy, and the importance of the fact that the squared magnitude of the 4-vector is an invariant quantity and does not change for any reference frame

Seminar on "Lessons from Africa" it was actually pretty interesting, probably the most interesting of all of them

Comp arc at noon, except more like 12:45 because he is never there on time. Pre-12:45, the class watched Friday parodies on the computer projector. In the actual class we examined one possible way to make a 4-bit ALU with add, subtract, and, or, left shift, right shift functions. Did not go over WinCUPL at all, which is okay because I did not download it

Two hour break at 3pm, went to library and did some signals homework, except really just one single problem because I kept doing it one way and then realizing it's not the same as partial fractions with s-plane stuff. And I didn't feel like going upstairs to use a computer so I just used wolframalpha and browsed informative inverse z-transform via partial fractions sites on my iPod touch. It was difficult.

MATLAB seminar at 5pm, learned some things about handles to plots, and creating animations by manipulating those plots. Also some filters (butterworth filter, or something like that, and general filters) at the end

HSS4 at 6pm, discussed the Club Med reading and the stuff about the KdF thing and the Butlin holiday camps in London. Went over some other things too, probably. Got two of the previous assignments back, did well

Walked home, it was even more unpleasant outside than it was before. All this slush on the ground, ergh. Got home, everyone was at a restaurant because it's my cousin's birthday and I was told to head home since it was unpleasant outside and I get out of class really late anyway, so I went home. Then food was brought back and I found out it was from that seafood and chicken place that we barely ever go to anymore. Then I ate the food and it was good
