마이크로 음악을 들려주면 어떤 음악인지 알려주는 서비스인 Shazam의 작동 원리. 아이폰이 처음 나왔을 때 Shazam이나 SoundHound를 써 보고 마냥 신기해하곤 했는데, 이 글의 내용을 완전히 이해할 수는 없지만 대강 어떤 방식으로 작동되는지에 대한 감을 잡는데는 충분한 것 같다.

이러한 음악 분석 알고리즘을 진화시켜 서비스로 제공하는 Echo Nest도 있다. 단순한 음악 찾기 뿐만이 아닌 음악의 다양한 특징을 파악하는 알고리즘을 제공하고 있는데, 이를 가장 쉽고 재미있게 보여주는 예제 중 Infinite Gangnam Style이 있다.
