The First Night

As I lay here, Awaiting your endlessly sweet response, Phone held gently to my chest,  Wishing it were you,  Against me pressed.

My breath comes out jagged,  Butterflies escaping in my sighs,  I long for you,  To hold me close, As my beating heart flies.

My body,  It shakes,  And shivers with cold,  Knowing in an instant, You could fill it with warmth, By giving my hand a simple hold.

Each time you respond,  My heart pulses faster,  Impatiently in wait,  To see what you’ve written me, Those wonderful words, Even if two or three.

I can’t get the lock code in fast enough,  As I hurry to see what you’ve said, My eyes flash across the screen,  Swiftly reading your cute remarks,  An involuntary smiles appears, As I cherish them evermore. 

Sighing blissfully,  I close softly my eyes, Replacing my phone to my chest, On you, My heart relies.

Somehow,  I believe I’ll rest tonight,  For once not a sleepless night,   Perhaps your infinite words have given me comfort,  A comfort which I have never known,  One that guides me safely to sleep,  So I can rest peacefully, Even as I lie alone.

My thoughts still flutter as I write this so,  But in a good way,  A carefree one,  One that doesn’t make my happiness sway.

For the short moment, Not a single thing, Could whisk away my content.
