THE CATCH UP: GS PHANTOM & ECO$YSTEM

First up, suss the video for “BAG”. This ECO track which features OCEAN & PHANTOM bangssss.

Melbourne rappers GS PHANTOM and ECO$YSTEM could blow up off their outfits alone. To outsiders, that’s the first thing they notice. But the real ones recognise they have true musical talent, flexing flows and sensibilities reminiscent of American trap influencers like Ugly God, Carti, Tay K & SOB RBE.

Here’s PHANTOM’s “GS PHANTOM DRIP” video - a RIC FLAIR REMIX showcasing the mans trademark sexually explicit punchlines delivered with a soothing icey coolness.

Three days ago ECO dropped the video for his new new “GELATO” which flaunts a fast-paced, yet subdued flow. The crisp visuals feature a maturing ECO$YSTEM, telling it straight in a grocery store.

ECO & PHANTOM's vocal skills have really come into fruition in 2018 and the production quality of their music and visuals are following suit. The wider Australian public may not be ready for their sound yet, but the only way to change that is to give credit where it’s due. Keep an eye on their socials!

ECO$YSTEM teams up with JAYE & THEBNARLYR for “BLOCK 2 HOT”

We haven’t heard a track this hot since PRONTO & MTK dropped “NIKES”. Bumped into ECO & THEB at the FITZROY CLUBHOUSE recently when we were working on some top secret TG stuff. The man was recording some impressive new tracks and stopped for a minute to play us “BLOCK 2 HOT”.

If that opening verse from JAYE (aka BADBOYJAY) doesn’t have you dabbing immediately you’re crazy. This guy is another new-new-wave Melbourne rapper who has dropped heat in the past, but on “BLOCK 2 HOT” he’s announcing himself as a standout in Melbourne's exploding underground rap scene. Did I mention he produced this as well?

ECO$YSTEM has been a TG favourite for a long time. As you can hear, his style sits somewhere on the spectrum between OL’ DIRTY BASTARD, PLAYBOI CARTI & SKI MASK THE SLUMP GOD. Listen as the man comes in hard to a dope “Kwa’Pow” ad lib with some clever phrasing and tight, sonically rich delivery. “WE PAVED THE WAVE AND YOU COPIED THAT SHIT” - say no more.

THEBNARLYR ends the track with some straight genius off the cuff lines… “I NEED THE PLUG LIKE A SOCKET”, “HOT LIKE A SOUP”, “CLEAN UP YOUR SHIT YOU A MAID BRO”, just to name a few. THEB is another member of this lil movement (which also includes WATERBOYBENJY & more). Here’s yet another artist with a tonne to offer to the local scene. What impact will he have? Only time will tell.

All 3 verses glue together well over that reversed chord sample and silky drums. The PLAYBOI CARTI wave swept through hip hop in 2017 and these guys took a leaf straight from the book of the Atlanta enigma on this one. It’s not just about Magnolia, and if you listen to Carti’s self titled debut in entirety it’s easy to see why these Melbourne lads are inspired. The tape is fire.

ECO$YSTEM Ft Leo and Ocean – “Trapination” ECO$YSTEM teams with Leo and Ocean for the Josh Dragan-directed, "Trapination". The salt and peppered flick finds them masked up and turning up in an undisclosed location. The blend the trap with a mellow horned out instrumental. The video can be seen below.
