Sonia Gandhi constitutes three internal committees
November 20: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday constituted three internal committees to "consider and discuss issues and policies related to Economic Affairs, Foreign Affairs and National Security". Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will head all the three committees. "Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) has constituted three committees to consider and discuss issues and policies related to the stated subjects and keep her informed," AICC stated in a press release. The Committee on Economic Affairs consists of - Dr Manmohan Singh, former finance minister P Chidambaram, former leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh and former union minister Jairam Ramesh in the capacity of Convenor. The Committee on Foreign Affairs consists of - Dr Manmohan Singh, former union ministers Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, Salman Khurshid in the capacity of Convenor and Saptagiri Ulka. The Committee on National Security consists of - Dr Manmohan Singh, former union minister Veerappa Moily, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, V Vaithilingam and Vincent H Pala in the capacity of Convenor. It is worth mentioning that 23 Congress leaders wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi in August this year demanding sweeping changes in the party. Good news: For Oct- Dec quarter General provident fund interest rate hiked to 8%
Government has given good news to its citizens by one more news of interest rate increment. After increasing the interest rates for National savings accounts (NSC) and Public Provident Fund (PPF) by 0.4%, it has now increased the General Provident Fund (GPF) rate to 8% that is increasing it by 0.4%. A Department of Economic Affairs' warning stated, "… amid the year 2018-2019, aggregations at the credit of supporters of the General Provident Fund and other comparative assets will convey enthusiasm at the rate of 8 percent with impact from October 1, 2018, to December 31, 2018." The interest rate for the July-September quarter of 2018-19 remained at 7.6 percent for the GPF. Note that the GPF accounts are meant only for government employees, it is not valid for private companies’ employees. It is to be noted that the new interest rate would be applicable for the provident fund employees of central government including railways and defence personnel. An administration representative needs to contribute a specific amount of their pay to the account and must be resident of India in order to become a member. The gatherings in the reserve are paid out to the administration representative at the season of superannuation or retirement. At the time when any employee opens an account, he can give a chosen one (nominee) who will get the advantages from the account in case of record holder's death. This is how a GPF functions. With a feature called GPF advance, one can the interest free loan through GPF account. A person can pay back the loan in monthly instalments.
