Sir Hans Heysen OBE - Pewsey Vale, 1933, watercolour over pencil Wilhelm Ernst Hans Franz Heysen (1877 - 1968) was a great Australian landscape artists. He was a master of depicting atmospheric light and is renowned for his Australian landscapes in watercolour. Heysen was born in Hamburg, Germany, and migrated to South Australia, with his family, at the age of seven years. He left school when he was 14 to work whilst studying art part-time. With sponsorhip, Heysen studied in France for four years before returning to South Australia
