The Mysteries of “Scoop & Doozie”

So, the first, biggest mystery of the show is simple- “Where are the episodes, and what were the episodes?” That is, the series lost media, and it’s media that’s so lost we don’t even know the titles of every episode (although I’ve put a good amount of work into digging them up, pun not intended). However, there are several other, smaller mysteries that the show possesses, which I would like to highlight here.

1. Scoop turns green?

This is a fairly silly mystery, but the Wikipedia page for the show refers to Scoop as a “yellow (sometimes green) closed-bucket excavator”. This could be something simply made up, since it is an unsubstantiated factoid on a Wikipedia page, but it is already known that Scoop changed design between the first and second season- is it possible that she was green in the third?

2. “Hide and Seek”

The title of this mystery refers not to the episode, but to a VHS tape released which contained that episode and one more. What was the other episode? We don’t know, since there doesn’t seem to be a picture of the back of the tape. That’s the mystery.

3. “Digger & Dozer”

While doing research on the series, I came across an old PDF from some Canadian governing body in charge of television funding, that had this listing for the series:

“SCOOP & DOOZIE aka DIGGER & DOZER - QUEEN BEE PRODUCTIONS, LTD”

What is that? The show’s working title?

(Incidentally, Axle, who didn’t get his name in the title, is a dump truck, and there’s a children’s book called “Digger, Dozer, Dumper”.)

4. Why didn’t Queen Bee Productions have a website?

Looking on the Wayback Machine, it appears that the production company for the show never made a website. My research life would be so much easier if they had…

5. Cameo on Edgemont?

This I rate over even “Scoop was green” as being most likely to be random online lying, but I still think it’s worth looking into in case it isn’t.

While researching the show, I found this comment left on an upload of "Pretty Strong"

6. There’s an Arabic dub?

This mystery is very personal to me, simply because I’m the one who uncovered it in the first place.

In an attempt to find an episode list for Scoop & Doozie, I actually emailed series producer Vicki Grant. Unfortunately, she lost her list some time ago… but I did also think to ask if the show ever received any dubs. And this was the response I got.

I quickly replied asking for more details, but she, months later, still has yet to get back to me, and with this minimal information I haven’t been able to find the dub.

(Which is a real shame, because in my experience dubs are very helpful for people trying to track down lost episode lists. I can’t tell you how many cartoons whose episode lists I’ve had to look for on the wonderful Fernsehserien.de…)
