Simon is frantically trying to remove the evidence of his breakdown when the door opens, and he's been caught black-handed (his tears have smudged his eyeliner far more than usual, and wiping his eyes transferred it onto his hand) by Edgeworth, of all people.
His lips are already poised to claim that nothing is wrong, when Edgeworth shuts that down altogether. Simon knows when he's been had, and as tempting as it is to weave some grandiose lie about his feelings… Edgeworth is entitled to the truth.
It takes him a long time to answer; he sets his cheek upon his hand and looks away before he ultimately mutters, “I’ve been having flashbacks… about prison…” He sighs and reaches to wipe away the lingering dampness in his eyes before he continues, “My apologies. I had not meant to worry you.”
