Charles Dickens, finding out the real Ned Dennis was reprieved: FUCK THAT *works him off*
#so i am not a supporter of the death penalty#and i'm sure the real edward dennis was not as odious as the fictional one#the real one claimed he was recognised by rioters and forced to take part on threat of death#and i'm not necessarily inclined to disbelieve that#but clearly he learnt NOTHING from that experience and from being sentenced to death#because not only did he hang other rioters#(which i think is what he was reprieved to do)#but he continued as executioner until his death 6 years later in 1786#in his entire career as an executioner 1771-1786 he hanged 201 people#so while i don't support the death penalty in real life#this is one of the few fictional executions which does feel somewhat satisfying to me#as hugh phrases it: ''see the hangman when it comes home to him!''#poetic justice at its finest#dickens daily#ned dennis#edward dennis#barnaby rudge#barnaby rudge; a tale of the riots of 'eighty#death mention#death penalty#death penalty mention#violence mention#barnaby rudge spoilers
