Mark is a bearded Dragon.
Mark is also a female, but Ed doesn't think a name change is necessary.
Edd is fascinated by Mark of course, and Eddy just doesn't understand why anyone would want a lizard as a pet, but he's also the kind of guy who thinks a pet has to do something.
