Hey Pulp Musicals fandom!

With the things that have happened since I last made a post regarding the #pulp: off the air tag, in conjunction with the sudden deletion of the offical tumblr that led to a change of ownership to the now Unofficial Pulp Tumblr, the person in charge of that blog has told me that they've blocked both the #pulp: off the air tag and the #pulp musicals after dark from the tumblr blog.

This is the proof they sent me:

Meaning, whoever owns the Pulp Musicals blog cannot see into either of those tags. They DM'd this to me not too long ago. While I can't 100% confirm it, I'm choosing to give them the benefit of doubt and trust their token of goodwill.

Fandom as a whole cannot grow unabashedly when under a fucking panopticon, which was why I started the idea of the Off The Air tag in the first place. We shouldn't be afraid of expressing our creative ideas under the watch of an official creator. We shouldn't be watched 24/7, period. As people, we deserve the respect and privacy that is afforded to us.

Censorship of any kind is a detriment to creative thought. We should be able to create the spaces we want, create the boundaries we want, and have those be respected. If you do not want to see these things, you can easily block the tags as much as you can easily search for them.

I was never under the illusion that this was a foolproof plan. Things of this nature only work if it's widely agreed upon. #pulp: off the air was always intended for anything that we didn't want the official creators to see, including criticism and meta talk that perhaps didn't fit within the bounds of the main pulp musicals tag. For many, part of the fun of talking about something you enjoy is picking it apart and appreciating the good while acknowledging the bad. You do not have to blindly follow and love a piece of media. Frankly, you shouldn't.

I digress. The #pulp: off the air and #pulp musicals after dark tags are still free to use for everyone in the fandom. I trust the owner of the Unofficial Offical blog to keep their word.

If I did little hatchetfield/pulp drabble/ficlet requests on here would that be something people would be into? Been thinking about it, could be a fun writing exercise.

The drabbles would be exactly 100 words since. That's what a drabble is. Ficlets would give me a lil more leeway with the wordcount.

Pulp Musicals fans, the "official creators don't look" tag poll is done!

The new tag for pulp things you don't want the official pulp tumblr to see is Pulp: Off The Air!

Now what does this mean?

#Pulp: Off The Air is the tag you should use if you want to share a Pulp Musicals thing that you don't want to put in the main #pulp musicals tag. It should replace #pulp musicals, which is what the official tumblr tends to see and reblog from. If you just want to organize your pulp posts for other fans to find, but don't want the official tumblr to immediately find it, your chances are better with #pulp: off the air.

Why would you want to do that?

Because sometimes you might not want the anyone on the official project to see it. I'm not thrilled with the idea of anyone who works on pulp to see the more wild things I want to share with fellow fans. I believe in a healthy degree of separation, because having a space for fans, by fans, is what helps a fandom thrive. This is community among like minded folks, who want to share and revel in the creative space we make without censorship, and without supervision from the official cast or crew. It's up to us to govern ourselves as a fandom.

Which is why I've also decided on an After Dark tag, #pulp musicals after dark.

How does #pulp musicals after dark work?

This will be the tag you want if you want to post and share more adult/mature topics in your pulp fanworks. I wanted to make an easy to block tag for those of us who are uninterested in seeing more explicit content in the pulp fandom, as well as an easy to find tag for those of us who do want to see that more explicit/mature content. Obviously, tumblr is pretty wishy washy with allowing mature stuff, so if you want to be really careful you can mark your posts as mature, or link to another site with better rules on more adult stuff like bsky or AO3 or something. That's up to you!

This new After Dark tag can stack with #pulp: off the air as well, meaning that by tagging both #pulp musicals after dark and #pulp: off the air, you are organizing a post by "this is more mature content" and "if you're official cast/crew, please do not look. This is for fans."

The pulp fandom has been long overdue for a better tagging system, so I hope you all appreciate the collective work we've put into this! I was fed up with not being able to share more of my fics and art, so I might link more of my AO3 works with these tags. I urge you to tag things using these if you so choose. Organization makes easier searching makes easier blocking. These tools will help us curate our own fandom experiences.

As much as I think it's fun that the pulp musicals creators are on here for announcing episodes and reblogging fanart, I feel on edge for when I wanna post stuff that I don't particularly want them to see.

So I'm gonna use #pulp musicals after dark for more risqué stuff

And maybe we can all work together to create a more general "hey please don't look at this Jackie" tag? Fandom has changed a lot over the years but it's still a fan space made by the fans, for the fans. I'd have more peace of mind to keep that distinction and allow us to have more creative freedom to play in the little sandbox we made without feeling watched.

My copy of Newfag Runs The Gauntlet came in! I got a sticker too, the bookmark was a freebie.

I specifically requested for discreet packaging and for my (government) name to not be on it, I didn't expect the sweet message alongside the autograph! Thank you so much Bee, I started crying.

I'm not out to some of the people in my life and like many a queer kid growing up in the early 2000s, I turned to the internet. I didn't end up desensitized to some of the darker stuff out there but I've seen some pretty bad things. And with the current state of the world I really appreciate seeing more cool stuff made by other trans people.

I'm thinking of the way the firestone cracked, how were Itzal and Chazira positioned? Were they close together? Holding the box inbetween them? Maybe they were huddled close, a moment of quiet intimacy, Chazira leaned against her husband, Itzal holding his wife close.

If Itzal was holding Chazira close, what if she took the brunt of the hit? Their skin burnt from the cracked firestone, Itzal's hands and face, Chazira's entire body.

What if Itzal's burns were the outline of her?

It's all he has left of her.
