*some of these relate to canon characters as well so yeah
- on lorraine palmer’s 14th birthday, her parents had a fight so bad, the man she knew as her father told her mother that he knew he wasn’t lorraine’s bio dad and that he had even met with the guy before storming out and never coming back. after the initial shock wore off, she became fascinated with this side of her family she never knew (her mother and “father” were pretty shit so she was hoping she’d finally have sort of familial attachment somewhere). using what little info she had (the guy’s full name + some info from a disastrous attempt to ask her mother some questions abt him), she managed to contact him once. it went pretty badly and left her regretting she’d even tried, but he did mention that she had two half-siblings who’d tried the same thing a few years ago (even straight up coming to his house to demand answers) before giving her their names + contact info in an attempt to keep her from ever calling back. she still has their contact info and has tried calling them a few times, but either couldn’t bring herself to press the call button or she did but always hung up when someone answered. she wants to talk to them so badly, but constant rejection has left her too scared to try.
- on a somewhat related note, eileen grantham has tried to contact the rest of her family over the years. she’s called the grantham home twice (one call didn’t go through and the other did go through but she hung up when someone answered). she’s written two letters to sylvia, three letters to richard & cass (one letter addressed to richard, one letter addressed to cass, and one letter addressed to them both), one letter to bedelia, and two letters with the instruction to lay them in the cemetery on her parents’ and nathan’s graves respectively (the nathan letter is the shortest and is basically just “fuck you and rot in hell you old crusty BITCH”). these letters never reached any of the granthams however. in fear that eileen was saying something bad abt him, paul hid the letters and never sent them, leading eileen to believe that her family just didn’t care abt her or even that they hated her.
- when rosalind grantham (richard & cass grantham’s mother) disappeared in 1953, the official story was that she had simply grown tired of being a mother and had run away, something not one of her sisters ever believed (they knew she’d never abandon her children like that, she loved them too much). in late 1967, after over a decade of nonstop frustration and disappointment, darlene grantham and her husband maxwell grantham (eileen grantham’s parents) decided to take matters into their hands and looked into her disappearance themselves. in the early morning hours of april 6, 1968, darlene and maxwell grantham were discovered in their car on the outskirts of castle county, both dead from multiple bullet wounds. the shooter has never been identified, rosalind grantham has never been found, and the two incidents have never officially been connected.
- monroe grantham has always been terribly anxious, both in general and around other people. it doesn’t take much to intimidate him, and bc of that, he’s taken to having imaginary friends rather than real ones (and some not-so-imaginary ones after he and his mom move into the grantham mansion).
- frances northrup has an…interesting thing she does to vent frustration, in which she walks up and down the road searching for roadkill, and if she finds some (preferably fresh & intact), she’ll take the carcass down to an old cabin in the woods surrounding horlicks uni (before 1978, during the winter months, she’d often settle for using the laboratory in amberson hall, using her passkey to get in and out), and will basically just slice the creature open and experiment with the carcass/organs, using materials stolen from horlicks uni to do so. henry is aware she does this bc he followed her into the woods to find out what she was up to and found the cabin + her equipment. he’s (rightfully) concerned abt her “hobby” (and the fact that she’s stealing from his workplace) and wants to bring it up with her, but is too passive to do so.
- both jacqueline meiks and morgan dunne teach at horlicks uni (entomology and neuroanatomy respectively).
- horace beaumont attended horlicks uni for abt a year and a half before dropping out due to boredom (and due to local pets disappearing in the area before turning up dead/mutilated), working on a major in behavioral sciences and a minor in english studies (with a specialization in gothic studies)
