“ Father, I’m fine. Really.” “ I’ve told you to come get me if any human tries to--” “ He would’ve been hurt if I left! I couldn’t just stand idly by! “
hushed but heated words were exchanged between two people-- a younger Blake in her early teens and her father, current Chieftain and leader of the White Fang. their argument was not without cause, the source being a wound. a cut across the girl’s cheek that still trickled some blood, but didn’t seem to be hurting the feline much at all.
“ You could have called one of the guards who would have been able to alert me.” “ It still would have been too late. I can’t keep going to you every time a human discriminates against me or someone else!”
to outsiders, it seemed to be nothing more than a family squabble. none felt brave enough to ask, but a few knew the true reason for Ghira’s scolding of his daughter. Blake remembers it well. she had accompanied him on a trade shipment for the humans. things had gone fine, except she had wandered off to explore and came across a girl spewing profanities at another Faunus who was just trying to do what he needed to go and be on his way. but the woman refused to leave him be and took his ignoring of her insults as him thinking he was better than her and she could see the rage building. Blake saw it happening before he did and managed to put herself in front of the guy just as the human withdrew a small blade and brought it across in a swiping motion. the teen managed to push them back but the tip had caught her cheek. by then, her father’s guards found her and quickly handled the situation.
“ That’s not what I mean. I just...don’t want you getting hurt or doing something you’ll regret.”
her dream self took those words wrong as evident by the flash of anger on her features. her father was just trying to help her and she took it wrong. the real Blake had been watching the scene unfold from behind a tree, emotions from that day entering her mind. she was angry that at what he said, but proud of what she did. she protected someone. and it didn’t end in bloodshed. but, at that time, she let that pride over her actions drown out what her father was trying to say.
“ I’ll never regret protecting another Faunus. Not now, not ever and no matter what I need to do in order to do it.”
