Myself and a friend just stared a Dnd game, it is simply a DM and one player thing as we are doing it over skype as we don't live very close together.
So my character is a zealous worshiper of the Raven Queen, goddess of death. So he arrives at an city to which I have no name for and have some difficulty getting in due to restricted entrance to the city cause by a string of recent murders.
But I gain entrance anyways due to a sympathetic half-elf having pity on me. On entrance it is past duck and quite dark, there is no one around except an old dwarf who is hastily hobbling home. I gain little information form her other then the streets are not safe at night. I then find an inn where I am refused entrance due to slight racism and the dangers of letting someone in at night.
After wandering for a few more hours my character becomes quite annoyed and decides to use his ability Ghost Sound to make a loud noise and force people to give him straight answers. Several doors open to see what is going on. One young man points a crossbow at me.
"I tell him I mean no harm and simple seek a place to rest" I mange to roll at natural 20 on diplomacy, and convince him to let me into his house. Where he tell me about a gruesome set of murders that has happened over the past few nights maybe more then a week. He give me the remains of his supper and then as an eladrin I settle down to meditate on the information.
Sometime into my meditation I hear a scream. I arise and move to the window, but can see nothing. Then I decide to investigate further drawing my longsword I unbolt the door and move out into the street closing the door behind me.
I see nothing but move in the direction using a spell of light to guide my way. I come to an ally, lit up by my spell there are many shadows crated and move though cautiously after a time I come upon a crazed man stabbing an boy and ripping parts out of it.
I command him to stop but he didn't listen so I throw a fireball at him, this mildly bother him, and he charges me with his knife. I ready my sword but before he reached me I unleashed a mental attack Illusory Ambush which causes him to fall to the ground clutching his head. I walk to him, putting my sword to his neck and begin to try and question him.
Suddenly another man approaches, and stabs him straight though the heart. he then put away his sword and extends his hand and introduces himself as Frederick, he is clearly a nobleman from his dress and initially I refuse to shake his hand, remaining suspicious of him.
I question him as to way he killed the downed man, as i had hopped to question him, he asks that what information of use could I get from a mad man and I reply "More then from a dead one." we talk for a while and I learn little that is new but become convinced that Frederick is not one of the murders (and I have very good insight.) and I agree to shake his hand, which i notice is extremely cool, and noting his pale skin I suspect he is a vampire. I also notice a broach on his jacket which I feel I should recall but can't remember why.
The man tells me where I can find him should I wish to work with him and bit me good night. I head back to the house and spend the rest of the night meditating. In my meditation I begin to think about the broach and figure out it is the symbol of Orcus, a demon prince and a sworn enemy of the Raven Queen. I become confidant in my suspicion that he is in fact a vampire.
In the morning the young man who offered me a place to rest agrees to allow me to stay provided I pay for my own food. I agree and set out to the market to pick up supplies after taking care of them. After having them delivered to the house I head around the city looking from clues.
After sometime I come across some children playing, once of them has some small idol or broach, it arouses my curiosity and move toward him to investigate. But the child bolts, I send my mage hand after him to grab him by the scruff of his neck.
With some small difficulty I take the idol form him. After I do he calms down and I feel a tug on my mind, and can scene some magic form the idol. I realize the idol is in the shape of Demogorgon, an enemy of Orcus.
I felt that the murder I stopped the previous must have been driven mad by such an idol and head back to where i left the body, but it is already gone. So I went to the city watch to see if they had the body or the idol. And tell them of my suspicions. At first the captain disbelieves me and asks to see the idol, I agree but warn him to be careful with it.
Instantly after taking it he attacks me. I create a blinding flash of light but he barrels me to the ground, I cast Illusory Ambush on him, which has a similar effect on him as it did the murderer and he is knocked out cold.
I question a young recruit as to where I might find the idol the murder had and he tells me where I can find the officer that looted it is. I find him quickly but he has already lost it in a game of cards and I seek out the man he lost it too but he is not home, and night is falling.
I search the house finding signs of a struggle and where the man left, though a window, I follow a small blood trail heading toward the city watch. Arriving there I find the watch building abandoned and the trail of blood has ended.
I look around but can find no sign of the man with the idol. I decide to had back to to my place of rest and upon arriving the young man begins yo question me about a large fire in the distance. I look behind me, wondering how I missed it, and decide to investigate it. Leaving the idol I have behind with my belonging and warning the young man from touching it.
I race though the city to the building on fire. I inquire as to weather there is anyone alive inside and being told that there used to be screaming I decided to head inside to save anyone worth saving and put anyone else out of their misery.
Inside I find nothing but the dead bodies all but two of the city watch members I have met and know of. As I leave I notice a suspicious looking man running. I decide to give chase and use my mage hand to trip him up. On catching him I realize he is a follower of Orcus and question him about the idols, gaining little from the encounter and decide to kill him and burn the body (as is the tenet of the Raven Queen.)
Heading back to the house to get some rest I arrive to find that the young mans mother has been missing for some time, since before the fire. He says she went next door and I decide to check on her, receiving no answer and hearing a loud thud of metal I decide to pick the lock.
Inside I find the dead body of what is probably the owner of the house and another idol, this one is made of platinum rather then gold. And seems more powerful. Heading upstairs I am suddenly attack by the mother but as she jumps on me I turn her weight so she hits the ground first and is rendered unconscious. Seeing as this one seems to have a greater effect I decide it must be destroyed straight away. And resolve to bring it to a temple.
And that is where the game ended for the night. It was good and she kept me interested the whole way. So I was happy, can't wait to do it again.
