Jimmy Eat World - Electable {Give It Up} (2007) [Alternative Rock]
Electing to Disappoint
If this is what electable is, then we’re in even bigger trouble than realized. And we realized a lot. Politicians are a symptom of a disease, which is why healthy citizens choose not to run. Don’t you enjoy being told what someone thinks you want to hear? Calculation is the worst when it’s performed by people who can’t do math. A reality show leads to expected results.
Making the case for someone who shares your ideals sounds noble. But some just aspire to install a bully they backed for safety. Debating whether Trump fans think he’s conservative or they were liberals all along distracts from enduring his presidency yet again.
Zealots certainly couldn’t be deluding themselves. Falling for promises it’s known will be broken is just how Trump fans display the perseverance of hope. The clues are evident on account of how he was already freaking president. Topping the completed wall with laser netting was the fun way to end the first term.
A fundamentally flawed hiring process is the fault of unqualified managers. Blaming principled applicants for not advancing is a reflection of voters. These democratic ideas hurt personally.
Putting up liberal Republicans who aren’t appealing is as inspirational as expected. The party found someone who couldn’t try harder to deliberately alienate. And he’s not trying hard at all.
You may feel particularly inspired by dreadful candidates who can triumph as long as they’re facing the worst humans imaginable. Claiming Trump was the most likely to prevail disregards facing despicable options even for Democrats. An electoral history consisting of beating that one Clinton, losing to Joe goddamn Biden, and winning against that rambling wino isn’t quite impressive.
Presidents are viewed on relative terms, which is surely a way to end up with a relatively lousy one. Just be less awful than the lone option. I suggest that we should stop nominating ghastly dolts who can only beat exactly one other human. It happens to be the very person against whom they run. The suspension of disbelief is necessary.
Candidates who are neither worthwhile nor appealing embody the democratic process. You’re supposed to hate the grievous scumbags who are out to steal your money and decisions. Scorning elected dolts is how we hold them accountable. This is what happens when schools teach pronoun selection instead of checks and balances.
Condemning ideals is type of principle. The same people who won’t make a case for limiting government claim it’s pointless, which is sort of proof. We might be able to elect an actual conservative if one ran. But party elders inform us that wouldn’t work without trying, and they’ve surely gained enough experience to never be wrong.
Remaining unbothered shouldn’t be that difficult. By contrast, we keep letting the worst of humanity get to the final round in case you wonder why politics has been even worse lately. Finding at least one candidate who is more than legally an adult is a challenge in an era of perpetual juvenility. An infinity percent improvement shouldn’t be that hard and is also the hardest thing possible.
Winning for winning’s sake is a losing. And they even suck at that. Trump is adept at telling audiences crudely what they want to hear, which makes him the most political politician imaginable. I’m sorry to share this update with his enthusiasts, so please don’t take my barely suppressed laughter as a sign of simmering gloating. Lying during the application process is not a promising development for job performance.
A careful examination consisting of looking for a few seconds shows we’re at best going to end up with a wayward goon who’s only committed to maintaining a stranglehold. Diners enjoy entrees prepared by someone claiming to be a chef while not knowing how to make the microwave go.
Aspiring presidents are dedicated to the noble cause of getting one more electoral vote. The biggest suck-ups would claim after consuming half a hard lemonade that there’s no point in steadfast beliefs if they don’t attract voters. But everyone has already lost if concepts as basic as a government that doesn’t annually fritter a trillion dollars more than it pilfers are inherently unappealing.
It’s better to lose sticking with what you believe than win while aligned with something you’re not. Some of the two parties seem to enjoy losing while pandering, which is surely the best of both worlds except for two things. At least outcomes are horrid.
There’s nobody else to blame. Democracy means voters are at fault, which is extra damning because results are made public. Voting may be the last secret in the selfie era, but revealing who won is an embarrassment for all involved even if individuals aren’t named.
Trying to avoid facing the regrettable result of choices is particularly challenging in an era where everything is billed to the collective. We’re all at fault for as long as technical victors treat government an endless source of plunder. The trouble with electability is who’s doing the electing.
Is it a POTUS or is it a PINA?
And I don't mean piña colada.
Good. Because you don't want the Democratic nominee going against Trump to bee too popular. You want someone who's in the margin of error, someone who people can't decide on, and someone who voters aren't enthused about. What you don't want is someone who's very popular, someone who's got a clear vision for the future, and someone who excites people to participate in the political process. Nope, definitely don't want that kind of candidate. #JoeBiden #JoeBiden2020 #Electable #MoreElectable #JoeBidenIsUnelectable #BernieWouldHaveWon #BernieSanders #BernieSanders2020 #Bernie2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/B_VUTODl2e7/?igshid=5dn2tdhm8y71
