My college radio station WHRW 90.5 FM Binghamton had a long-running program from community member Daniel Jan Walikis called the European Ethnic Melodies Show. He had such energy while he was “retired”! From his death in 2012 until a few days ago, his collection of 2,000 records covering American Polka and other related Eastern European/Balkan music lacked an audience to admire it. Thanks to the help of Dan Jan’s family and some radio station alums, the collecton is being taken care of by The ARChive of Contemporary Music. I regret that I never touched his copy of Electro-Nova’s Ukranian -- “the first electronic Ukrainian album of its kind.” I anticipate a tribute to him at our station’s 50th reunion next May.
