Elephant Spotlight - Sadat

Sadat is arguably the biggest captive elephant in Sumatra and lives in the north west of Sumatra in the Aceh province in camp Saree. Sadat came to camp Saree in 1989 and is 50 years old this year. In 2004 Sadat helped with the clean up of Banda Aceh after the 2004 tsunami. Sadat is part of the VESSWIC Elephant Healthcare Program that looks after more than 180 elephants within Sumatra. Sadat requires $450 per year for his healthcare and food alone. Details of what is required to keep Harris healthy can be found here where you can support Sadat.

Elephant Spotlight Harris

Something new for VESSWIC. Elephant spotlight! Each week we will be highlighting a new elephant and shining a light on his or her story and giving you, our supporters and elephant lovers all around the world the opportunity to be able to help with the health care for each individual elephant. For each person who supports the individuals health care we will send you a pdf fact sheet on the individual you have supported. VESSWIC look after the health of 180 captive elephants throughout Sumatra and each elephants health and medication costs about $450 dollars per year. First up we have Harris. Harris lives in the Elephant Conservation Center of Seblat, Bengkulu and once a month joins the patrol units in the conservation area to protect the forest habitat and wildlife within.
