Elf (2003) or What do Santa’s Elves Wear?
It is the Christmas season, so lots of people are watching films about the holiday, and I am thinking about what elves wear. They are legendary creatures that go way back in European history, not always viewed as good, while today we see them as full of holiday cheer and good spirits.
Laura Jean Shannon did the costumes for Elf , Buddy, the human raised by elves, played by Will Ferrell wears a green and yellow outfit with embroidery and white faux fur collar and cuffs. The elf who manages the toy workshop gets to wear extra pompoms, sort of like a general, to indicate his high status. Zoeey Deschanel, as the unenthusiastic clerk in Gimbel’s North Pole, wears a red and green uniform with little bells along the hemline. But she has a much nicer “real” elf outfit when she joins Buddy at the real North Pole.
A good family film, that may make you wish for your own pointed hat. Is elf wear a thing?
