Day 5: Locked
A Kyorial blurb. Note: some head cannon involved.
Transcript of a lecture given by Kyorial Nightbloom.
“Among the Sisterhood of Elune lie many documents and relics, each Temple with at least one library and vault of its' own. From the dawning of the very first Temple of Elune and the first High Priestess, Haidene, each wondrous building was a source of peace, knowledge and enlightenment. For to learn was to grow, and to grow was to prosper, all gifts to the sentient beings of Azeroth. Before the Sundering, the price of both vanity and victory, some cities even had more than one Temple of Elune, so embraced was her worship among the Kaldorei. Eldarath was one of these cities, with a Temple in a dedicated district, as well as another, less central Temple on the city outskirts. Both Temples were beautiful, serene and housed the dedicated daughters of the Mother Moon, and both had housed their share of relics, histories and tales that would one night become histories and myth. However, both Temples were ill fated.
The more accessible Temple, the one within the city, housed two known artifacts of significance which were kept locked away within the vault and could only be accessed by the senior priestesses or with permission of High Priestess Dejhana. The first of these was a Pandaren chest. We do not know if the chest was first brought to Zin-Azshari and then delivered to Eldarath for safe keeping, or if it had been a gift to the Highborne of Eldarath themselves. Either way, we know the chest existed. Originally, the chest was a gift to the Highborne; the last gift the Pandaren gave to the Highborne before they cut ties with our people. The pandaren said it contained all the arcane magic the Highborne would ever need, but was in fact completely empty. The gift was actually a message of advice and wisdom to all of our people, and especially the Highborne: that we did not actually need arcane magic at all. And to preemptively address the question; before the Sundering, all Kaldorei were tied to the Well of Eternity in some form, and thus magic was a casual and daily part of many lives, even if they did not cast themselves. As we know now, this advice was quite correct.
Moving on, the other artifact became infamous within some circles, and even became led to the naming of this particular Temple. The Temple of Zin-Malor once housed the Crystal of Zin-Malor. Little is known about the origins of the crystal. Some believe it was a gift, others believe the cities founder Eldara Miri'nal created the crystal. Those that believe it was created also believe that she had used the crystal to expand and strengthen the city and after the work was completed, or upon her passing, trusted the Sisterhood to guard such a dangerous relic. You see, the crystal of Zin-Malor was capable of causing calamity, a risk that was later ignored by the Highborne of Lake Kel'Theril. We do not know how, or when, but at some point they broke into the Temple and its vaults and stole the crystal. Eventually they made it home, and before Eldarath or Zin-Azshari found the culprits and exacted justice, they used the crystal. I am sure many of you have heard of the cursed spirits of the ruins there, and must warn the novices among us against traveling there alone. The spirits may perhaps be at rest, but seldom is peace complete at sites of such violence.
Whatever became of these artifacts are mysteries some wonder about from time to time. Such history must always be faced, be remembered. For from it we can learn and with Elune's guidance, learn to move on to the future. Remember this my young ones, Elune is the Mother Moon and like all children we make errors. We house and guard pieces of our past not just to remember our origins and preserve our culture, but also in some cases these can serve as a lesson in forgiveness. One of the hardest lessons of all. Remember: The Mother Moon loves all of her children, and even the wayward ones and the ones we view as lost are not beyond Her embrace. It falls to us to bring the Mother Moon to our people, and any who wish to embrace Her. May she guide your steps in this life, and the next.”
