Eli really didn’t know what to take from that question. They had been broken up for months. Living in two different countries without being able to get time away to see each other really did a number on them. The truth was, Alex just didn’t want Eli to leave. She was afraid that if the other woman walked away now, she would never see her again. Alex had completely forgotten about her mothers, who were in the kitchen, waiting for her to come back. She made a face that probably told Eli that she had forgotten. Then frowned. “I don’t. . . Can I come see you later tonight then?” Things were too complicated to try and make it through an awkward dinner with Renee and Kate. Alex and Eli needed to talk. They needed to be alone.
