What do you think about the real identity of Young Griff?
Do you think he is truly the son of Rhaegar, a Blackfyre, or the son of Illyrio Mopatis?
I have no idea what his true identity is, but one thing I'm sure of: he's not Rhaegar and Elia's son. In Agot, Griff didn't even exist, and when he was first planned, he was supposed to be a descendant of Aerion Targaryen (through his son, Maegor, or another son, I suppose)… So that explains why the "Varys swap baby" that the fandom attributes to Griff, isn't Griff.
Elio M. García (co-author of twoiaf and operator of Westeros.org with Linda Antonsson): “Aegon”… and “not the swap baby” — the character grew up believing he was the rightful heir, shaped by Varys and Illyrio’s long-term plans.
Elio García’s: “Yes, that’s what I think” This refers to the theory that Septa Lemore is the mother of Young Griff (fAegon)
The claim addresses the evolution of the conspiracy involving Illyrio Mopatis & Varys. In the earliest published material (A Game of Thrones, 1996), their support for Viserys & Daenerys appears straightforward Targaryen restoration.
Aegon = Blackfyre (or Illyrio’s son) theory argue that the deeper Blackfyre angle—linking the Golden Company and potential Blackfyre heritage—developed later. — GRRM expanded this during or after writing the first Dunk & Egg novella (The Hedge Knight, published 1998 and toward the end of A Clash of Kings 2002).
