It wasn’t as if the idea bothered him. Elle was brave and strong but she was a girl, just as much as he was just one man who was as fallible as anyone else. 

Everyone need a hug every now and then, and Asbel didn’t mind doing just that. It didn’t take much, only Elle’s face, sometimes distant and sad to lead him to kneeling down; nothing but a gentle smile on his face before he pulled her into his arms, one hand going into her hair.
