Right after we kill the Ratking, Abby dreams about her father again. I think this is when she realises that, had he been in Joel's shoes, he'd have done the same. This is when she decides not to be vengeful anymore.

But Ellie has other plans, killing everyone who was part of Joel's torture and death. Abbie doesn't even know half the people Ellie went after, she will never know that literally all of her friends died, not just Owen and Mel.

Still, she goes after her, continuing a cycle that she thought would've ended. I completely understand both of them, in a world like this, there's no peace for anyone.
