i’ve been mostly mia from tumblr to begin with, due to the sudden death of my dad in september kind of crushing most of my desire to be on social media. now that tumblr itself is imploding i figure i should post some contact info for sites i actually use regularly.
feel free to follow me on any of these accounts if you want! (pillowfort link’ll be added later when the site’s back up)
main twitter: @ssrbonito art twitter: @tokimekimode vme twitter: @tokimekiseki
i’ve got vme and love nikki fanart to post to my art blog but i’m aaaaaaaaa
i haven’t updated my art blog/twitter in forever and it’s bc for the past several months i’ve exclusively done vme fanart over on my vme twitter. these priests are all-consuming
i don’t know how to use the tumblr mobile app and i am very afraid
Yeah I remember watching y/o/i and realizing it was not a sport anime, it was a badly written softcore bl that had cardboard like characters and jarring pacing with probalby the most frustrating main character ever, whose entire universe revolved around V/i/c/t/o/r and not on the sport, with shitty lazy psa's fun facts on ice skating
pretty much. the inclusion of those few Fun Skating Facts bits were especially funny bc they’d interrupt a scene by popping up suddenly so yuuri could break the fourth wall and infodump at lightning speed.
it was like the show going “this doesn’t actually matter but Technically you should know this so we’re just gonna get it outta the way as fast as we can and get back to the Good Stuff™”
karibooo replied to your post:hear me out: free! is not a sports anime. and to a...
It’s a sports anime. 80% of the show is ice skating. It doesn’t matter what you personally like to label it as but that doesn’t derive from the fact that it is a sports anime (and in many ways much more accurate and true to the nature of the sport that free! tbh as confirmed by actual proffessional figure skaters) :)
this post is over 10 months old so this was not a reply i was expecting but alrighty :)
1) i certainly do not remember the show being 80% ice skating. even as it was airing i could remember all of two routines, partly because that is not what the show wanted us to focus on.
so if yoi is indeed purely a sports anime (it’s not), then it’s terrible at being what it’s supposed to be. the sport is the backdrop and moves the plot along, but the plot is centered on yuuri and victor’s relationship. that’s the point of the anime. even yamamoto (i believe it was her not kubo) said she set out to make an anime about the “deep relationship between an athlete and his coach” or whatever. the skating provides a framework for the conflicts and frequent abundant fanservice between both the two leads and supporting characters like yurio and otabek, and chris.
2) i literally never said free! was accurate to competitive swimming. in fact, that’s kinda my argument? 80% of free! involves swimming or swimming-related things, and kyoani did quite a bit of research. does that make it a sports anime? hell no. it’s sports-themed josei character drama, just like yoi
3) pro figure skaters saying something is accurate has absolutely nothing to do with what an anime actually is as a production. that’s like saying “pro singers have confirmed there is indeed a lot of singing in utapri, therefore it is a Singing Anime with Singing Focus, and NOT a romantic comedy reverse harem adaptation of an otome game set in a music school”
look. you don’t have to justify your enjoyment of a fujobait series by pretending it’s More Than That. it’s fine. nothing wrong with liking this kinda stuff
since i’ve gotten new followers recently i figure i should post my twitter accounts since that’s where i do 99.9% of my talking
☆ main/personal (as you can see from my twitpic i tend to livetweet my theology assignments) ☆ vkc-only (i’ll be posting more art there very soon) ☆ game/mobage ☆ misc art (same url as my art blog)
feel free to follow one or all of these if you want!
