since october is gullah geechee heritage month, hoodoo heritage month, and halloween season, i figured i’d paint something to represent them all!
pictured above is a digital painting of a dark-skinned, Black gullah-geechee conjure woman dancing in front of a full moon. she is wearing a white, tiered, ruffled dress adorned with cowrie shells and a white headwrap. she is wearing gold face piercings, gold rings, gold bangles, a gold ankh necklace, colorful beaded necklaces, and gold hoop earrings. her fingertips are stained blue with indigo pigment, her eyes are closed, and her arms are reaching up towards the sky. hooked onto the belt of her dress are a miniature skull and a brown leather satchel of herbs. in front of her, four long candles burn and smoke into the sky. behind her, there are two trees with blue glass bottles hanging from their branches.
