If there was one downside to remembering her true self, was the way it affected the connections Hermione had made for however long she had lived that life. It was still confusing to her, the time she had sleepwalked as a mere mortal, no clues to her past, to her divinity. It was insulting to say the least.
An example of this inner turmoil stared her in the face, so to speak. Laurel, a young brilliant woman with whom Hermione had developed a strong bond as she mentored her through the years. At times she almost felt like a mother of sorts to her. She enjoyed her company, both in and out of work which was in itself a rarity these days. The trouble that came with her memories? Laurel turned out to be none other than Persephone, one of her several step children sired by her husband
The only positive outcome of this mess was that Hera never had any actual issues with Persephone, which made her step daughter one of the lucky ones. Not once had she tried to ruin her life, or had her killed. If she had to guess why, being married to Hera’s brother, Hades, was enough of a punishment.
Either way, Hermione and Laurel were far closer than Hera and Hermione had ever been. And for the sake of appearances, Hera had to keep up with it as she had no idea if Persephone remembered anything at all.
As luck would have it, she saw her near her office and saw it as a chance to approach her. “Laurel, just the woman I was looking for.” She gave her a small smile, as Hermione normally did. “Do you have a moment to talk? In my office?”
