Eve and things she said that Harvey wish she hadn't //cause SHIPPY THINGS no matter what way!
Drinking to the successful conclusion of a case is habit, these days. Whether in a bar, or in his apartment or in his office -- like now, two glasses of scotch in his hands, one held out towards Eve with a curling smile.
“Looks like you chose the right law firm after all,” he says. As she takes the glass, he clinks his against hers, raises it to take a mouthful. It’s expensive stuff, and he takes a moment to appreciate the flavour before he sets the glass down, half-perches on his desk.
“I guess so,” she agrees. Takes a mouthful of scotch and a half-step closer. “You know -- since we won the case, we’re no longer working together.”
Harvey’s gaze darts up.
“Evelyn --”
And the full name ought to have been a warning sign -- Evelyn, not Eve, like he’s trying to distance himself.
“What? You don’t think a celebration is in order?”
Her smile is flirtatious, not coy in the slightest, and Harvey can’t deny that she’s beautiful. Still, he sighs, half-shakes his head, raises a hand to halt her advance.
“Sure it is. Just maybe not the kind that you have in mind.”
She looks a little hurt, a little offended. Harvey finds himself half-wishing that they’d gone to a bar instead, somewhere more public. He hadn’t exactly gone out of his way to avoid her flirting, after all, had probably given her the wrong impression. But that’s just him, just his charm, just the way he plays the world.
“I thought you liked me?”
“I never said I didn’t. Look -- I do like you. And yeah, you’re unreasonably attractive, don’t think I haven’t noticed. But have you forgotten what got you into this mess in the first place? Frankly, I don’t shit where I eat. I told you that, when we first met. When you first came in here with your case.”
There’s also the fact that he’s still a little raw from losing Scottie, from fucking up so monumentally, from admitting that he needed someone, out loud, for the first time in his life, only to have it not work out anyway.
Well, he’s always said -- they think you care, they’ll walk all over you. Except this time, he’d pretty much walked all over himself. Little difficult to pursue other interests when his head is so stuck on Scottie.
He sighs. The last thing he wants is to offend her. They’ve done good business together, and they could do more, in the future.
“I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, but I’m not that guy. My work is my life, and I won’t let anything get in the way of that. Not even a devastatingly beautiful woman.” He smiles, a reconciliatory sort of smile, a little strained around the edges. He finds himself wishing she’d never said anything.
“You’re smart. You know better, anyway, I know you do. C’mon -- let’s just have a drink, celebrate the win, huh? You and me -- we did good.”
He holds his glass up, eyebrow raised.
“ ---- right?”
well lbr here, I followed you because you're Becs and ALL your characters speak directly to my heart because of this fantastic writing and your understanding of each character. You can pull off any attractive arse and then again they're all different and you manage to always portray that perfectly. You're fabulous and I love you ooc and ic. I'm glad that the little blonde found someone to defy her because it brings out a new level of her and you make me think of watching that show, okay? xD
bless ur little fluffy soul.
Well, you are quite correct in pointing out that I tend to favour attractive arses (both in the literal and figurative sense, ba-dum tsh), and I’m glad you’ve stuck with me as I move from arse to arse. So to speak.
You know how much I enjoy writing with you and I’m a fan of Harvey and Eve’s slight antagonism, despite being on the same side, it’s very fun to write!
P.s. - you should definitely watch this show. Like, seriously. Everyone, go tell fluffy that she should watch the show.
